Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis flu

laryngitis

Avatar f tn The end of March I had a flu that lasted about 9 days. Symptoms came on suddenly from one day to the next, I had headaches for 2 days, sore throat for a couple days, cough, runny nose, limited nausea, a bit of dizziness, no appetite, some diarrhea for 2 days and fatigue for 2 weeks and laryngitis that caused me to lose my voice for a week.
Avatar f tn Shouldn't the flu shot be given pretty painless in the shoulder and only stay sore a couple of days? Will I ever get the use of my wrist and fingers back?
Avatar n tn I got laryngitis and the flu a few weeks ago. The top of my dresser looked like a pharmacy with inhalers, nasal spray, antiobiotics, etc... Well now I am off everything. My ENT says everything looks good and I should start talking. But nothing but a whisper is coming. I am still coughing occasionally, but nothing like it was. My mouth is real dry and my lips are cracked. I have been putting vasoline on my lips and drinking lots of fluid...mostly water.
Avatar m tn I had a unprotected sex about 3 and half weeks back with an unknown Girl for about 5 mins. Next day I got mouth infection ( just soar throat no fever no flu symptoms) and doctor (ENT) suggested some antibiotics, after which I was feeling OK in a day. I thought it was a strep and asked for a swab test. Couple days later doctor confirmed its nothing. I had tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) before I had sex with her.
Avatar n tn I did not have any flu last year after my TT, but my GP recommended a flu shot this year, so I went ahead and had it. Like Liz said, lots of hand washing is good for everyone.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar f tn My father has been on antibiotics for rather a long period of times (90 different types of antibiotics in about 2 months in succession for a flu that led both to sinus infections and laryngitis that didn't easily go away. He's now off antibiotics and feels generally OK except for bloating, heartburn and fresh bright blood in his stool :( Can that be serious considering the huge number of antibiotics he has taken?
Avatar f tn Thanks, I'm just anxious and have had multiple issues since this. I can't recall getting anything shortly after except a bad case of laryngitis, no rash, no diarrhea, no super flu. Again I doubt it was an issue, I just need reassurance.
Avatar f tn The only problem is that I keep coming down with either strep throat, pharyngitis, laryngitis or the h flu every other month. I just recently came down with strep throat again and I'm wondering if there is anything that I can to to prevent getting sick. It as if I get it as soon as someone with as much as a cold walks by! Help! I'm tired of being sick and I know that being on antibiotics this much is not good!
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I had the Flu in January, followed by cold and laryngitis. Lost my voice, got it back, but with this persisitant dry sudden cough, that can come anytime. I wake up with it, usually a coughing fit lasts from anywhere from 1-10 mins. After the coughing is over, i have to constantly clear my throat, until all the choaking sensation is gone. Its almost like swallowing into the wrong side of your throat.
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
Avatar n tn I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
Avatar n tn My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
Avatar m tn Viral infections, such as the flu, cold, croup, mononucleosis, measles, and chickenpox. Bacterial infections, such as strep throat or tonsillitis, which can cause severe pain and difficulty swallowing. Sinus or nasal passageway infections, which can cause postnasal drip and irritation of the throat. Allergies, which can trigger inflammation and mucus production in the throat. Acid reflux, which can bring stomach acid up into the throat and cause burning and inflammation.
Avatar n tn Two days following that incident I woke up with a slight fever and a headache and a feeling as if I was coming down with the flu. That went away within a day or two. In December '08 I started getting pimples on my scalp and face. In Febuary I got a bought of laryngitis which went away within a week. During this time I have been having a lot of acidity in my stomach which I think is contributing to a sore throat that I have.
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Very afraid of the condom slippage w abrasion, and burning unrination says I got something, 3 week ars sinus infection and laryngitis, low fever, and my girlfriends flu a few months later. Timing of all this is really freaking me out. Called csw yesterday and she was upset at my questions. Not sure how to get through this testing time. I know it's supposed to be low risk etc, but something feels off I'm very scared at the moment.

Avatar f tn One ounce of Magnesium Chloride flakes (Pharmaceutical grade) per one liter of spring water, sipped very slowly throughout the entire day. Repeat for 3-4 days. Your symptoms indicate a viral or bacterial infection and are consistent with bronchiestasis. If it is viral, no medicine can help, once the virus has replicated. If bacterial, amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for bronchiectasis. You may want to consider Breathing Exercises for Bronchiectasis.
Avatar f tn More plausible causes of hoarseness of voice need to be checked like acute laryngitis, vocal cord nodules, allergies, gastro esophageal reflux, smoking, thyroid problems, trauma to larynx, parkinson’s disease and trauma to larynx. Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference. Hope this information helps you. Take care.
