Laryngitis croup

Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis croup

laryngitis

Avatar n tn I get three or four bouts of colds/sinus infections each year which always progresses into laryngitis with croup-like symptoms. I have a very difficult time getting air past my inflamed voice box and experience inspiratory wheezing (or stridor?) with the dry barky cough, and sometimes a thick yellowish/greenish phlegm will be cleared from my throat. It's very scary feeling like my throat is closing up at times.
Avatar m tn Viral infections, such as the flu, cold, croup, mononucleosis, measles, and chickenpox. Bacterial infections, such as strep throat or tonsillitis, which can cause severe pain and difficulty swallowing. Sinus or nasal passageway infections, which can cause postnasal drip and irritation of the throat. Allergies, which can trigger inflammation and mucus production in the throat. Acid reflux, which can bring stomach acid up into the throat and cause burning and inflammation.
Avatar n tn My son too has chronic croup. He is now 8 years old and is suffering from it since he's been 2. Doctors have diagonosed him as having asthma. I went to an ENT and he said he is fine. I went to a allergist and he is allergic to Dust....however he only get episodes of Croup during October through Feb. I'm really fustrated and confused, he is on Flovent twice a day, flonase twice a day, albuterol as needed and steroids when his croup is bad which is likely 3-4 times a year.
Avatar n tn Nobody can explain why she gets it so much. She has never had any other illness or infection besides the croup. Never even rotovirus, only croup. A couple (2-3) times it has turned into pneumonia. The pediatric ENT did a bronchoscopy on her and it was perfectly normal. Now I have appointments with a pediatric pulmonologist and an immunologist. She has had allergy testing and is no allergies to anything.
Avatar f tn I had croup when I was 15. At the time I had undiagnosed autoimmune pernicious anaemia (vitamin B12 is essential for a healthy immune system). "Teens who have not developed antibodies to the viruses that cause croup and those whose immune systems are compromised can develop viral croup." - Livestrong - Croup in teens.
Avatar n tn My now 16yr old had her first round of croup at 8 weeks old and turned blue in her crib and her first diagnosed asthma at age 18mos ... so you have come to the right place for "Mom" experience with croup. She had croup no less than 6-8X a year and now looking back at her history (she is documented asthmatic) she was probably having RAD or asthma going on which was misdiagnosed as croup or was croup along with the asthma. She was on nebulizerr, etc.
Avatar f tn My 3 yr.old woke up this morning with croup! :/ I'm not afraid of catching a cold or anything that's a part of life but I'm 22 weeks pregnant and haven't ever dealt with croup let alone while pregnant. What are the chances of catching it myself and how will that affect my unborn baby???
Avatar n tn My six month old son was diagnosed with croup over two weeks ago. He started to get better but starting last night, he developed a nasty sounding cough? Should I be concerned his croup turned into pneumonia?
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar f tn Again i brought him and she said it was the start of CROUP. His lungs were clear and she said to give him 15mg of Prednosolone 2 tiems a day. ...it seems to get the coughing to ease up. Today i put him in the shower w me to clean him up a bit and he began to get hives on his face like crazy. scratching he was so upset. I quickly gave him Benadryl and he was ok after a while. My question is this...can the croup be causing the Hives? and was it the steam opening up his pores what made it worse?
Avatar f tn So this morning I took him to the doctor (I was super scared that he may have the swine flu) and discovered he has croup. I have been sent home with a slew of medicines to administer, and a sick little baby to care for. The poor thing. Anyway my ped said that croup is pretty common this time of year, but he had seen some pretty mean strains so far. That's what I wanted to share... that, apparently, a mean strain of croup circulating around this winter.
Avatar f tn My little princess is 3 months old now and this morning i took her to the doc because she had a terrible cough. Come to find out she has croup which then let to bronchitis. She has been put on steroids to help her but i feel so bad for her. Other than steam or taking her outside when she has a coughing fit there's nothing i can do for her. Breaks my heart. She is my fourth and none of my boys had it. So sad for her.
Avatar f tn When I was little I would get croup every winter. What would help me is my mom putting me in the bathroom with the shower running on hot and having me sit in the steam, or wrapping me in a blanket and sitting on the porch in the cold. It would help break up the mucus and she would pat my back so I would cough it up. It might be worth trying if this every happens to your daughter again.
568659 tn?1256139982 Noah got croup over the weekend and I cant remember if that is something that he needs to go to the doctor for or if it should clear up on it's own. I have been doing the hot shower thing and taking him out in the cold air. I also have a humidifier in his room and I have been giving him chamomile tea with honey but he seems to be getting worse. What do you ladies think?
Avatar f tn The next morning at 5am he was gasping for air. When I called the ped. she told that he had croup and to put him under a steam shower for 20 minutes. After about 10-15 minutes the breathing was better. When we went to the docter, he had an ear infection in each ear and sinusitus. She gave him antibiotics. After he took the med. for the 10 days,he still had a bad cough for a long time that wouldn't go away, and he was having coughing fits. When he was rechecked he had bronchitis.
Avatar n tn Thanks for reponding, My nephew kept coming down with Croup, He has had it 4 or 5 times. They did the initial MRI to see if he had anything wrong with his throat that would cause the Croup to come back so frequently. The doctors stated that it was due to Acid Reflux. Now if that is true, I"m not sure.
Avatar n tn Since last year starting kindergarten he has had croup, or RAD every 2-3 weeks. Whenever he catches a cold or gets a runny nose we know he will end up at pediatrician or ER eventially, and be prescribed predisolone (along with his usual mediacations singulair, pulmicort, and xopenex). He always ends up on predisolone, or decadron, even at the ER ephedrine (neb). He has had his tonsils and adenoids removed.
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Yes honey my son had croup and it made his cough calm down so much. He only had the croup cough for 3 days which usually last more like a week.
Avatar n tn Definitely see her doc about a controller med such as pulmicort or ask about a short course oral steroid to get control of this episode and then start a daily preventative. You should also ask about croup (given the fever and the difficulty breathing at night), especially if you notice a barking cough or stridor when she breathes. My 3 yr old has asthma and sometimes he gets in these stages where the albuterol (rescue med) doesn't help and only oral steroids do the trick.
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
Avatar f tn DD has croup, i was just wondering if anyone else has had a child with it. Last night was so miserable for her, and i barely got any sleep. I feel so helpless because she is so comfortable and i cant take that away from her. Dr gave her a dose of prednisone and said to do the home remedies and that it could last up to 7 days. Im just so upset because i relate all her illness's to daycare and maybe i shouldnt but i do.
