Laryngitis contagious period

Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis contagious period

laryngitis

Avatar f tn I got really worried so I was referred to an ENT doctor, he said it was just reflux laryngitis since he examined it with an endoscopy. So he prescribed me amoxicillin for 7 days which helped a little but the bumps never went away. Sometimes, I would experience bad chills with no fever at all especially when I sleep. They would come back one day & another day, I would feel normal. I also noticed one white small tonsil stone above one of my tonsils.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar m tn Can anyone offer advice on what the contagious period is for herpes. Aside from asymptomatic shedding, in general how long after an outbreak should you wait before safely engaging in sex?
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I recently met a women who i have been dating a little over a week; we have only engaged in kissing as of yet which began the nite i met her. Our kissing is intense and i recieved a small bite on my lip on the 7th day i knew her, the next day it seemed like a small sore. She informed me that she is HSV-1 positive but believes it is Herpatic Whitlow and she has never had any "cold sores".
Avatar m tn In November-2nd week (after 11 weeks of the massage) I had a sore-throat for a few days followed by laryngitis. My doc said it was not bacterial but was some virus moving around and I could be contagious. I had 99 degrees fever and some mucous in my nose, throat. 1. My question is how risky is fingering for quarter-inch for 3 seconds? 2. Also are any of my symptoms consistent with ARS? Does ARS show itself with different symptoms weeks apart? 3. Should I get a HIV test?
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
Avatar n tn I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
Avatar n tn My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Hi, herpes sores donot ooze fluids that would run down your leg. It would be best to wait till the sore completely heals before being intimate with someone.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
Avatar m tn Will this be Herpes Laryngittis/ pharyngitis? will viral Laryngitis/Pharyngitis get relief from antibiotics as I was feeling well in a day after I took them. Will Herpes Laryngitis/Pharyngitis cause no sores in the mouth, tounge or lips? Is this some kind of bacterial infection or viral infection? Any suggestions highly appreciated. I took an appointment for next week with my ENT.I see the transmission rate of 4% with unprotected sex from female to male with HSV1 genitally.
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar f tn My father has been on antibiotics for rather a long period of times (90 different types of antibiotics in about 2 months in succession for a flu that led both to sinus infections and laryngitis that didn't easily go away. He's now off antibiotics and feels generally OK except for bloating, heartburn and fresh bright blood in his stool :( Can that be serious considering the huge number of antibiotics he has taken?

My doc said it was not bacterial but was some virus moving around and I could be contagious. I had 99 degrees fever and some mucous in my nose, throat. 1. My question is how risky is fingering for half-inch for 3 seconds? 2. Also are any of my symptoms consistent with ARS? Does ARS show itself with different symptoms weeks apart? 3. Should I get a HIV test?
Avatar f tn More plausible causes of hoarseness of voice need to be checked like acute laryngitis, vocal cord nodules, allergies, gastro esophageal reflux, smoking, thyroid problems, trauma to larynx, parkinson’s disease and trauma to larynx. Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference. Hope this information helps you. Take care.
Avatar f tn I would like to know the contagious period of herpes. I have herpes whitlow that is now a scab. No more fluid, no seaping or breaking open of the scab. Is it still contagious?
Avatar m tn In the meantime, I have the following questions. Is their an incubation period during which time I could have been exposed but not yet contagious? From my web research, it looks like the only STD that could have shown symptoms so early is gonorrhea. Given that there was a very small amount of discharge that one time, it didn't smell, and it hasn't happened again, what are the chances it was not gonorrhea?
Avatar f tn m 25 years old and last August I was diagnosed with a severe case of Epstein Barr. I was hospitalized for a period of time and have since then recovered for the most part. The only problem is that I keep coming down with either strep throat, pharyngitis, laryngitis or the h flu every other month. I just recently came down with strep throat again and I'm wondering if there is anything that I can to to prevent getting sick. It as if I get it as soon as someone with as much as a cold walks by!
Avatar m tn I am now with a new partner and I am concerend as to whether I am likely to still be contagious. I was told at the time of treatment that I would not be contagious after 2 years or so, I went with this advice and have therefore not mentioned this to my partner. I have however heard many contradicting things recently after trying to research a little. What is the likelyhood I am contagious still? and how likely is it that I would get a reoccurance after this time?
