Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis contagious infection

laryngitis

Avatar f tn s from an infection then you need to try to flush that infection out. I will get laryngitis also from constantly trying to clear my throat as well. Not sure of your situation but I hope it clears soon cuz I know it can be brutal!!
Avatar n tn Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
Avatar m tn Will Herpes Laryngitis/Pharyngitis cause no sores in the mouth, tounge or lips? Is this some kind of bacterial infection or viral infection? Any suggestions highly appreciated. I took an appointment for next week with my ENT.I see the transmission rate of 4% with unprotected sex from female to male with HSV1 genitally. I have also attached the pic for skin rash that occured on my skin.
Avatar m tn Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation. A detailed clinical examination and tests can help in determining the cause. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I know viral infections are not contagious, but I'm pretty sure bacterial infections are.
Avatar m tn In November-2nd week (after 11 weeks of the massage) I had a sore-throat for a few days followed by laryngitis. My doc said it was not bacterial but was some virus moving around and I could be contagious. I had 99 degrees fever and some mucous in my nose, throat. 1. My question is how risky is fingering for half-inch for 3 seconds? 2. Also are any of my symptoms consistent with ARS? Does ARS show itself with different symptoms weeks apart? 3. Should I get a HIV test?
Avatar f tn How contagious is a staph infection such as mrsa and ringworm to infants? And how serious is it?
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
Avatar n tn It is usually not the drug of choice for UTI but is mostly used in otitis media (infection of the middle ear), tonsillitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and sinusitis. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn could she give me the same viral infection, which would cause my body to also develop diabetes. I've been really thirsty lately, weak and i go to the bathroom a lot. Could someone give me an insight. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Well there is this theory (by some doctors and some of us) that if you have had no symptoms or have negative test results in a row for 6-24 months, then your immune system has either made the virus dormant or has eliminated it. It is at that point you are no longer contagious. However, if it is dormant than this also means that it could re-activate at some time in the future or maybe not. There is also a theory that one is always contagious but we don't want to believe this.
Avatar f tn I am understanding it takes 21 days to manifest itself. My question is, was I contagious 2 weeks ago, and how long will I be contagious. My job is working with the public.
4251679 tn?1370305531 UTIs are exactly what their name describes. and infection in your urinary tract. its not in your vagina, however, ive always been told not to have sex while you have one because sex could be the cause of it. and its best to make sure its all better before introducing even more bacteria. Ive never heard of it being contagious, and dont think that it is, but ask your doctor. and ive also never had a cream to use, so im not sure what thats for.
Avatar n tn You mention only throat (and that's more than enough), not nose/sinus. Do you also have nasal blockage? This isn't leading me to a conclusion but the information may be helpful to those reading. I frequent this Community because of a chronic nasal congestion problem, mainly when lying down, trying to sleep. So I can empathize with the panic caused by not getting enough air. Is your condition affected by you body's position, sitting, standing, lying down?
Avatar f tn been diagnosed with coccobacilli infection. prior to knowing the result of the pap, i had sex with my partner. does this mean i infected him? does he need medications as well? *i posted the same question in the other thread. im sorry.im new to the community.ill be cautious next time.
Avatar f tn Now I have post nasal drip and my laryngitis is still there although getting better. I have done everything for the laryngitis, steam, cool mist humidifier, room temperature water (about twelve 8oz glasses a day), resting my voice. It is getting better very slowly. Now I have a post nasal drip and I am coughing up greenish/yellowish sputum but it's from the back of my throat not my lungs anymore. I am going to try a nasal rinse today.
Avatar f tn ad endoscopyseveral months afo and was negative for GERD. The pulmonologist said it was laringer spasms and a viral infection in vocal cords. Hospitalized for 3 weeks. Home on 20 days of oral steroids, flovent and nebulizer treatments. I am not feeling better. The coughng and the raspy, hoarse voice is still there and the gasping for air and choking continues but has gotten a little better.
Avatar f tn I got really worried so I was referred to an ENT doctor, he said it was just reflux laryngitis since he examined it with an endoscopy. So he prescribed me amoxicillin for 7 days which helped a little but the bumps never went away. Sometimes, I would experience bad chills with no fever at all especially when I sleep. They would come back one day & another day, I would feel normal. I also noticed one white small tonsil stone above one of my tonsils.
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar m tn I know that regular gonorrhea in the genitals does not always show symptoms, but I was wondering about gonorrhea in the throat? It seems to me like a throat infection would be different, because as far as I know, any bacteria in the throat wouldn't be considered an infection if it wasn't giving you symptoms, such as a sore throat.
