Avatar f tn I keep losing my voice and I have seen an ENT (vocal chords red and swollen) and asthma doctor. Concluded that I have asthma but very mild put on Symbicort. This has happened about 9 times since last July. Last anywhere from 3-4 weeks. This time I have been fighting it for 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Advair for many years now, and I believe it is affecting my vocal chords. I am a singer, and I always have to clear my throat, and am always raspy. Does advair dry out vocal chords? Is there a better option that can help me breathe, but also still sing?
Avatar n tn He saw that my vocal chords are swollen which has caused what I thought was laryngitis but it had gone on far too long for that. He referred me to an ENT for the vocal chords. My problems actually started with a bout of strep throat. After a couple rounds of antibiotics, I developed oral thrush. Then it was pneumonia. I've had almost 4mo of pure H!!! I hope an expert will hop on here and help you out.

Avatar m tn You may have damage to the vocal chords by over use, or by straining the vocal chords. If you do sing, then do make sure you do vocal warm ups. The voice box needs to be looked after like any other part of your body. Make sure that you do not shout or strain your voice. Drink plenty of fluids - have a bottle of water with you all the time and take sips frequently. You can also get lozenges to help soothe any irritation.
Avatar f tn My doctor said speaking in meetings all day definitely doesn’t help the vocal chords to recover so he put me on voice rest for two weeks. It’s been a week already and I’ve been taking steroids, ibuprofen and Benadryl at the same time. Today I forgot for a second I don’t have a voice when I woke up this morning. And when I said a word by accident, I heard my voice and realized there was no improvement. I’m so scared I’ll never get my voice back. My voice has never been gone for this long.
Avatar m tn Since the surgery, my vocal chords are somewhat healed and I speak much more clearly. Be cautious about taking over the counter cures, get professional advice. Keep us informed!
Avatar f tn it could be that. Also have them use a scope to check your vocal chords, it could be not related at all to the thyroid.
Avatar m tn There is a valve that is called the LES, if you have no stomach acid, that will allow that valve (sphincter) to stay open and acid/food can travel up and splash on your esophagus and vocal cords. So you do need to address your low acid stomach. Getting back to your throat...there are ways you can avoid the clearing. Sipping water is a way to stop the feel to desire to clear it. If you go on YT you will be able to find videos to show you exercises to strengthen your throat.
Avatar m tn I have now severe problems with breathing and my vocal chords are so inflammed I have difficulty even walking upstairs. Two specialists have suggested that due to the surgery ( 6 hours) my vocal chords may be paralised but it is too early to tell at the moment. If I stop breathing due to the closing of the chords I can be in serious trouble.. Has anybody been there and come through this??? Very worried, and scared at times.
Avatar m tn i dont know for sure if its my vocal chords and i havent gone to the doctor becus i dont have insurance and its not something that causes me pain or disconfort doing everyday talking, but i wish my voice was like before when it could be loud without disconfort. i hope anyone has some idea of what it could be.
Avatar m tn Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation. A detailed clinical examination and tests can help in determining the cause. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar m tn I have tried everything it seems for several years to get rid of this thick mucus that comes and goes in my vocal chords. I went to an ENT again and they went down my throat with a camera and were able to show me on film the thick stringy mucus in my vocal chords.
Avatar m tn exercises to gently loosen up the vocal chords before starting to sing using the full vocal range. Again, damage can be caused to the vocal chords if these are strained. Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, a physical-culturist from Mönchengladbach, Germany. It is a physical fitness system. Pilates helps in developing a strong core in improving co-ordination and balance.
Avatar n tn The cough worsened and I started vomiting when coughing. Although I am now coughing less, I have lost my voice which means I cannot work. My chest hurts because of the strain on my muscles. My GP has listened to my chest and says that it is clear. I have asthma but this is not related to this as far as I am aware. I am currently awaiting an appointment with ENT as my GP thinks I may have damaged my vocal chords but wondered if you have any advise in the meanwhile?
Avatar n tn I would suggest talking to and ENT about the problem with the vocal chords - they may need to run a scope down your throat to visualize the chords and see what is happening. Continue to drink tons of water to flush out the radiation and use some throat spray to see if that helps but see and ENT.
Avatar m tn t feel any wrong but I still cannot sing anything in falsetto nor head voice. I suppose my vocal chords are still swollen cause the only thing i can hear and feel is the air coming through my chords with no sound while singing in high pitches. Still is it normal to last over 2 weeks already? I am a little afraid I could do something wrong with my voice by drinking alcohol after intensive singing during concert.
Avatar f tn m not a medical professional but you might want to read up on the causes ( and/or unknown causes) and symptoms of vocal chord paralysis.
Avatar f tn It's difficult to say exactly what's going on without examining you, but if your problem doesn't get better gradually, see your surgeon. There are a number of unusual situations where you can have issues after a trach tube is taken out.
Avatar f tn I have mild low thyroid, and have been on Armour Thyroid for about 5 years. I'm a professional singer--and recently started having serious vocal problems; I've lost 2 full notes of my upper chest voice, and it actually hurts some to sing for long... I have no health insurance. Here's my question. Thinking maybe I had vocal cord nodules I saw an ENT who only told me I had some mild edema.
Avatar f tn Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference. Hope this information helps you. Take care.
Avatar f tn m experiencing problems with my voice. My throat feels kinked, and I can feel my vocal chords strain when I speak. When I sing my chords strain, my range is SHOT, and I can feel that the vocal chords are not moving. Is this normal? Will it subside? What can I do to help this??? I am missing out on a big part of my life that I MISS HORRIBLY.
Avatar f tn Damage to the nerve has caused my left vocal chord to be paralyzed and sitting quite far away from the centerline where the two vocal chords should meet. So I have a very breathy whisper in place of what my voice used to be. I'm scheduled to get fillers injected to push the paralyzed chord closer, thus making it possible for the right chord to interact. It will be done under anesthesia. My doctor explained all this very well to me,but I'd like to hear others' experiences.
661497 tn?1227724461 ve been through the surgery (twice) as has everyone else in the family (although they got it right the first time and only needed one surgery). One sister had temporary vocal chord paralysis after the surgery (we all had the same surgeon) and my daughter had a nodule compressing her jugular but none of us had the problem of the tumor being on the vocal chords.
