Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis and the flu

laryngitis

Avatar f tn The end of March I had a flu that lasted about 9 days. Symptoms came on suddenly from one day to the next, I had headaches for 2 days, sore throat for a couple days, cough, runny nose, limited nausea, a bit of dizziness, no appetite, some diarrhea for 2 days and fatigue for 2 weeks and laryngitis that caused me to lose my voice for a week.
572651 tn?1530999357 I am on tysabri and had no problem with getting the shot. The last time I had the flu - the real thing and not just an inconvenient virus - was 1981. My daughter was an infant and all I could do was be in bed with the lights off for about ten days, alternating my thinking that I was going to die or wishing I would.
Avatar f tn Shouldn't the flu shot be given pretty painless in the shoulder and only stay sore a couple of days? Will I ever get the use of my wrist and fingers back?
Avatar n tn I got laryngitis and the flu a few weeks ago. The top of my dresser looked like a pharmacy with inhalers, nasal spray, antiobiotics, etc... Well now I am off everything. My ENT says everything looks good and I should start talking. But nothing but a whisper is coming. I am still coughing occasionally, but nothing like it was. My mouth is real dry and my lips are cracked. I have been putting vasoline on my lips and drinking lots of fluid...mostly water.
Avatar m tn thanks for your reply!! I am worried if this is herpes laryngitis/phryngitis since they don't show any symptoms of hsv1 on the lips or in the mouth and it can impact the throat. I also read that some people will not show symptoms if it is GHSV1 (since I had only genetal contacts). Wondering if HSV1 causes directly laryngitis/phryngitis without causing any outbreaks on face or in the mouth !!
Avatar f tn Monday- started coughing, dry unproductive cough Tuesday- cough became very intense but still dry, felt like my chest was compressed, headache, unable to take deep breath without coughing fit Wednesday- started getting earaches but no drainage, more dry coughing that left me breathless, chest did NOT feel compressed anymore Thursday- on top of the ear problems and coughing I started getting ALLERGY symptoms (really watery eyes, runny nose, tingly sinuses and nasal cavities), low-grade fever Fr
Avatar f tn I just finished taking Azithromycin yesterday for what must of been a bacterial infection of my sinuses and lungs. It started as a cold. The cold went away but I was experiencing shortness of breath and post nasal drip that just wasn't subsiding. I went to two doctors. The first doctor prescribed a corticosteroid nasal spray (Omnaris). This helped a bit for the post nasal drip but wasn't addressing the shortness of breath or chronic cough that wasn't going away on its own.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar f tn Hi, transient loss of voice and hoarse voice are the typical symptoms of laryngitis. It is inflammation of the larynx (voice box). It is mainly caused by virus and treatment depends on type of virus affected. Even serological tests will help to identify the responsible pathogens. It can be treated with appropriate anti viral.
Avatar m tn Thanks again for the relief.I went him with sore throat and he diagnosed with laryngitis. When i heard hiv for the reason of laryngitis i got shocked. Lizzie it is nice to hear from you again.
Avatar m tn Viral infections, such as the flu, cold, croup, mononucleosis, measles, and chickenpox. Bacterial infections, such as strep throat or tonsillitis, which can cause severe pain and difficulty swallowing. Sinus or nasal passageway infections, which can cause postnasal drip and irritation of the throat. Allergies, which can trigger inflammation and mucus production in the throat. Acid reflux, which can bring stomach acid up into the throat and cause burning and inflammation.
Avatar n tn My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes. I had already been discussing the changes with my doctor as my asthma had become much better controlled. I just pushed up the timeline on one and she made the other. God bless.
Avatar f tn My father has been on antibiotics for rather a long period of times (90 different types of antibiotics in about 2 months in succession for a flu that led both to sinus infections and laryngitis that didn't easily go away. He's now off antibiotics and feels generally OK except for bloating, heartburn and fresh bright blood in his stool :( Can that be serious considering the huge number of antibiotics he has taken?
Avatar f tn have a new dr that i will see next week. my voice has change I get hoarse after I talk a lot. I just got over ON and my eye dr thought I had glaucoma? Avatar f tn The only problem is that I keep coming down with either strep throat, pharyngitis, laryngitis or the h flu every other month. I just recently came down with strep throat again and I'm wondering if there is anything that I can to to prevent getting sick. It as if I get it as soon as someone with as much as a cold walks by! Help! I'm tired of being sick and I know that being on antibiotics this much is not good!
Avatar f tn I began to lose my voice and within an hour it was completely gone, the laryngitis is making my headaches worse and my throat is hurting pretty bad. The reason I am asking for advice is because I have medicaid, share of cost, I was just approved yesterday, and it looks like I will have to come out of pocket, which, I don't have. If this is urgent, I will borrow from someone, otherwise, I will just wait, although, to me, I feel I need a visit.
4970275 tn?1361739031 Your English is perfect- no worries!. It sounds like you have the flu- the real flu, not what everyone just CALLS the flu. Have they specifically tested you for it? It does require treatment beyond Panadol (which is what we call Tylenol, I think), and sometimes even hospitalization. Ask them to check you for Influenza A and B. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn I also have just gone through the same unique series of ailments which started with a flu roughly two weeks ago. The flu i experienced had its typical symptoms and was minor (only lasting a day). What was different was that is was followed by laryngitis, a first for me, which caused me to partially loose my voice for three days. Immediately after the laryngitis ceased a new ailment began; bronchial spasms, dry cough, accompanied with a nasal drip and congestion in the back of my throat.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I had the Flu in January, followed by cold and laryngitis. Lost my voice, got it back, but with this persisitant dry sudden cough, that can come anytime. I wake up with it, usually a coughing fit lasts from anywhere from 1-10 mins. After the coughing is over, i have to constantly clear my throat, until all the choaking sensation is gone. Its almost like swallowing into the wrong side of your throat.
Avatar n tn Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
1090601 tn?1257512779 Did anyone else experience hoarseness prior to pituitary surgery? I was hoarse for 4 months prior to the surgery and told it wasn't likely going to be the reason. I had 2 surgeries in 4 days. The first left my voice worse but after the 2nd my family noticed in the recovery room it was normal.
Avatar n tn About 2-3 days later I noticed that the left side of my throat was sore and inflamed with a redness to it. Over the next few days I began to lose my voice and had problems swallowing but did not have fever, body aches etc. Nor did I feel sick although I sounded horrible. I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics.
Avatar n tn The only thing I can think of is maybe researching a bit in vocal chord dysfunction? I know it can be similar to asthma in symptoms, ie cough and can come in attacks. It also isn't at the top of the ENT's mind so it probably gets missed unless you are in an attack when checking. Make sure they are doing full pulmonary function tests, laproscopy of your sinuses and throat. Those will make sure there isn't any infections or anything that is bugging your throat.
Avatar n tn My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn I have the same condition. Could you tell me how you feel now and what was the diagnosis.
