laryngitis

Avatar f tn I’m just looking for reassurance that this is normal and nothing to be worried about. Is it just a sinus infection? Laryngitis? Pharyngitis? Epiglottitis? Hyoid bone syndrome?
Avatar f tn My father has been on antibiotics for rather a long period of times (90 different types of antibiotics in about 2 months in succession for a flu that led both to sinus infections and laryngitis that didn't easily go away. He's now off antibiotics and feels generally OK except for bloating, heartburn and fresh bright blood in his stool :( Can that be serious considering the huge number of antibiotics he has taken?
Avatar f tn Sounds like you now have a sinus infection, and the infected phlegm is draining to your throat, causing the cough. If the antibiotics prove ineffective, a Sinus Flush will clear it out. Saline rinses are only useful in the lower sinuses. http://www.medhelp.

778528 tn?1253813350 I have had pain in my thyroid area for a week now. It got worse, I developed a fever, had chills then I was so overheated and couldn't cool down at all. The next day, I went to the doctor and he put me on an antibiotic for a sinus infection. He said my nasal passages looked a little inflamed. I have been on the2,000 mg. of amoxicillin antibiotic for 4 days now and am not better. I tossed and turned and moaned all night long last night. I was miserable.
Avatar n tn There is a type of acid reflux that is very common in asthma patients where the acid refluxes up into the back of the throat where it can cause sinus infections, laryngitis, and asthma symptoms. Have this checked by a doctor.
Avatar f tn I have had a chest, sinus cold going on four weeks now with intermittent laryngitis. I have been on a course of Levaquin 2 weeks ago and am still sick. Prior to this cold I had another cold and was on a Z pac, can't seem to get any better... Never had a fever, just productive cough raising green phlegm.. Should I be working about my immune system at this point?
Avatar f tn Had to leave work today and may have to take time off as I have no voice. My sinus issues seem to be worse and digestion, may be causing this. My ENT is doing some tests. If anyone has suggestions , pls send my way. Thank you!!

Avatar m tn The acid refluxes higher into the laryngx, pharynx and even the sinuses where it can cause laryngitis, sinus infections, and chronic cough along with a number of other issues. There are many other causes of chronic cough to investigate, but after allergies acid reflux is one of the leading causes. You could also try OTC reflux meds to see if the help at all. A proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole would be a good place to start. You can also try H2 blockers like Pepcid. Feel better.
Avatar m tn But sometimes, infected tooth roots from the upper teeth can go inside the maxillary sinus and cause sinusitis. This in turn can cause a post nasal drip and an irritation in the throat. Also, if you do have an infected tooth, you will still need to have this addressed as dental infections can be potentially life-threatening. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn How long has this been going on? Have you been running fever? This could be a number of things such as laryngitis, pharyngitis, sinus drainage, tonsilitis or strep throat. If the problem persists or becomes worse, you should consult your physician.
Avatar n tn Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
Avatar f tn Incidence of viral laryngitis and it turning bact laryngitis is nothing unusual. (Hope this was some time back) Many go around with it without knowing what it is. But why did he have the Xray PNS, and the CT in November (or is it 11 Aug?) and MRI (11th of Sept?) All for this headache? Was this CT / MRI specific for brain? Or did they include nose and paranasal sinuses? Anyway, start the Rhinocort Aqua nasal spray. Yeah, I would suggest an ENT evaluation.
Avatar f tn Decongestants and medications that break down mucus secretions (mucolytics) can be helpful for sinus relief. If you experience symptoms of sinus infection for more than 10 to 14 days, your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic. Treatment for Chronic Sinusitis "Many things should be considered when treating chronic sinusitis," says Mark A. Zacharek, MD, residency program director in the department of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Avatar m tn I had a unprotected sex about 3 and half weeks back with an unknown Girl for about 5 mins. Next day I got mouth infection ( just soar throat no fever no flu symptoms) and doctor (ENT) suggested some antibiotics, after which I was feeling OK in a day. I thought it was a strep and asked for a swab test. Couple days later doctor confirmed its nothing. I had tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) before I had sex with her.
Avatar m tn Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation. A detailed clinical examination and tests can help in determining the cause. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn After about a month, I went to see my PCP which told me I had bronchitis and laryngitis. She put me on Amoxicilian, Claritin, tessalon pearl (for the cough) and albuterol inhaler. After finishing all my antibiotic, continuing claritin, tessalon pearl (as needed) and inhaler, I started to feel better. Once again, the cough is back, runny nose, and no voice. Will I EVER talk again? Have I done too much damage to recover from this? And why do I continue to get sick? PLEASE HELP!
Avatar f tn I was going to work up until 38 weeks, but at 36 I got extremely sick and couldn't go back into work for a few days anyways and they told me to just take it early and rest, which I totally needed! I kept getting sick and was pushing myself too much. I'm 37 weeks now and been laid out with laryngitis, sinus infection, and pink eye for the past 4 days. I'm taking 10-12 weeks maternity leave, all unpaid.
Avatar n tn I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics. It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?

Avatar f tn 1. Pain radiating to left ear and neck off and on with swallowing 2. Feels like having a small pea stuck in side of throat, radiating to ear and tongue base 3. Pain on turning neck, or touching the carotid 3. CT (neck) with/ w-o contrast. Showed something "inflamed" at the bifurcation of the left carotid artery You must probably be having CAROIDYNIA (it is a form of vascular neck and face pain in which the vascular change occurs in the carotid artery in the neck).
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
