Laryngitis and respiratory symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis and respiratory symptoms

laryngitis

Avatar n tn I get three or four bouts of colds/sinus infections each year which always progresses into laryngitis with croup-like symptoms. I have a very difficult time getting air past my inflamed voice box and experience inspiratory wheezing (or stridor?) with the dry barky cough, and sometimes a thick yellowish/greenish phlegm will be cleared from my throat. It's very scary feeling like my throat is closing up at times.
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn How common is vocal hoarseness in MS? Does it go away? My voice has become very hoarse/low in the past few days, which is something I've only experienced once before (after surgery, because that tube was down my throat). Also, I'm having a hard time swallowing liquids, particularly water. No matter how hard I try to swallow correctly, some water feels like it's going down the wrong tube and I start coughing/choking on it.
Avatar f tn s,some wheezing type sounds, shortness of breathe, rapid pounding heart rate at random times, and laryngitis all of which are still ongoing with the exception of my voice. It has come back but is not the same as before and I'm constantly clearing my throat to talk normally again. I feel like a boy going through puberty with all the voice cracking. I've been to several different doctors each one of them putting me on a different antibiotic and on Asthmanex, and Proventil inhalers.
Avatar f tn For example, GERD can present as repeated regurgitation, nausea, heartburn, coughing, laryngitis, or respiratory problems like wheezing, asthma, ... digestive.niddk.nih.
685931 tn?1226966388 thanks, all those causes u mentioned were cleared out. i've undergone tests to eliminate the cause of the itchy throat and there'is nothing to suggest any upper respiratory disease. also with allergy, i have been using mask outside and inside the house just to prevent pollen/airborne allergy but still my throat itch. it does not hurt though but it sure is very very irritating. the itch is somewhere justabove the adams apple, i really like to scratch it if i could but its impossible.
Avatar f tn I am still undiagnosed. When I had my "full system meltdown" one of the symptoms I had was that I was also hoarse and my voice fluctuated. It lasted about a week or two. It was at the height of my symptoms. I was not sick with a cold or anything. All my symptoms were neurological. I also was diagnosed with ON and EXTREMELY fatigued. I couldn't hold a chair, my hair dryer and when I took a shower I had to lay on my bed for nearly 45 minutes until I felt better.
Avatar f tn Hi, transient loss of voice and hoarse voice are the typical symptoms of laryngitis. It is inflammation of the larynx (voice box). It is mainly caused by virus and treatment depends on type of virus affected. Even serological tests will help to identify the responsible pathogens. It can be treated with appropriate anti viral.
778528 tn?1253813350 I have had pain in my thyroid area for a week now. It got worse, I developed a fever, had chills then I was so overheated and couldn't cool down at all. The next day, I went to the doctor and he put me on an antibiotic for a sinus infection. He said my nasal passages looked a little inflamed. I have been on the2,000 mg. of amoxicillin antibiotic for 4 days now and am not better. I tossed and turned and moaned all night long last night. I was miserable.
Avatar m tn There is a type of acid reflux (larygealpharyngeal reflux) that does not cause the typical acid reflux symptoms of heart burn. The acid refluxes higher into the laryngx, pharynx and even the sinuses where it can cause laryngitis, sinus infections, and chronic cough along with a number of other issues. There are many other causes of chronic cough to investigate, but after allergies acid reflux is one of the leading causes. You could also try OTC reflux meds to see if the help at all.
556467 tn?1225377691 Last year I was constantly getting upper respiratory infections, laryngitis, bronchitis and pneumonia. There was a period of 6 months that I was constantly on antibiotics and steroids. My ENT did allergy testing (normal), CT scan of nasal cavity (normal) and several scopes to look at my vocal cords which were inflamed. Finally he told me that he felt that I needed to have my Lingual Tonsils removed.
Avatar n tn The only thing I can think of is maybe researching a bit in vocal chord dysfunction? I know it can be similar to asthma in symptoms, ie cough and can come in attacks. It also isn't at the top of the ENT's mind so it probably gets missed unless you are in an attack when checking. Make sure they are doing full pulmonary function tests, laproscopy of your sinuses and throat. Those will make sure there isn't any infections or anything that is bugging your throat.
Avatar n tn The whole syndrome leads to inflammation in the upper respiratory system and salivary glands....and also seems to cause a chronic on and off throat congestion and laryngitis....I do a lot of constant, year round throat clearing. But back to the issue, my Parotid glands seem to just want stay irritated and lumpy. Its been well over a decade, and eight years since my SVR...and they still are not normal. How many of you out there have had similar, or related issues? Any thoughts...
Avatar f tn t getting sick as often until about 3 weeks ago I started to get a cold that turned into what I thought was laryngitis pretty much right away. Now I have been without a voice for almost 3 weeks. It hurts to try and talk and my throat feels really swollen. It also feels like my neck is bruised on the left side. It is really sensitive to touch. I finally went to the doctor and they thought for sure that it was thyroiditis so ran all the tests for that.
Avatar m tn I had a unprotected sex about 3 and half weeks back with an unknown Girl for about 5 mins. Next day I got mouth infection ( just soar throat no fever no flu symptoms) and doctor (ENT) suggested some antibiotics, after which I was feeling OK in a day. I thought it was a strep and asked for a swab test. Couple days later doctor confirmed its nothing. I had tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) before I had sex with her.
Avatar m tn Instead, the acid is refluxed higher and can be aspirated causing worsened asthma (or in some people this is the sole cause of their asthma like symptoms), sinus infections, laryngitis and a host of other uppre respiratory issues. You should discus this possibility with your doctor to determine if you need treatment for GERD. Another thought would be your dust and pet allergy. Do you have allergy proof bedding covers on your matress, boxsprings and pillows.
Avatar f tn Three weeks post exposure described above - had cold/sick symptoms, light fever with sweats, sinusitis and laryngitis, all perfect ars timing, and followed by this buring urination on the tip and slight clear discharge. Have had UTI in past and was wearing lots of used tight underwear due to location, situation. Thought it was that at the time.
Avatar f tn I have atrial fibrillation and, when walking, I have dyspnea posssibly due to respiratory infection. I have an 8-9 mm nodule and a few smaller ones in my lungs. The nodule has not grown in size when followed for a year. In next April I'll have the last CT scan of my lungs. I have slight hypercalcemia due to hyperparathyroidism, and I am on Thyroid Erfa for hypothyroidism. ACE has one time been slightly over normal, and so was lysozyme, too. They have then returned to normal.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
Avatar f tn Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Avatar n tn The day I went to doctor, my symptoms were only sore throat and coughing and I was hoping to get the normal penicillin for sore throats and I wasn't given it. I have had upper resp infections in the past but never heard of lower. I searched online and cannot find too much info. My office at work started going through renovations so now I'm wondering if I got sick from that because the workers took up old dirty carpet and replaced and painted.
Avatar n tn However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed. She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
