Laryngitis and post nasal drip

Common Questions and Answers about Laryngitis and post nasal drip

laryngitis

Avatar f tn I just finished taking Azithromycin yesterday for what must of been a bacterial infection of my sinuses and lungs. It started as a cold. The cold went away but I was experiencing shortness of breath and post nasal drip that just wasn't subsiding. I went to two doctors. The first doctor prescribed a corticosteroid nasal spray (Omnaris). This helped a bit for the post nasal drip but wasn't addressing the shortness of breath or chronic cough that wasn't going away on its own.
Avatar m tn But sometimes, infected tooth roots from the upper teeth can go inside the maxillary sinus and cause sinusitis. This in turn can cause a post nasal drip and an irritation in the throat. Also, if you do have an infected tooth, you will still need to have this addressed as dental infections can be potentially life-threatening. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Hi, there are two possibilites, "post nasal drip" or larynx inflammation. Do you have deviated nasal septum or sinusitis? Chronic discharge from sinuses drain out constantly in throat, causing sticky throat. Treatment is anti histamincs, decongestants along with antibiotics. Try steam inhalation along with ambroxol. For laryngitis, usually steriods are prescribed but best is to consult ENT surgeon. Indirect laryngoscopy is done to see larynx condition.
Avatar m tn Now she added Zantac and some allergy meds for my post nasal drip. Has anyone had a job that they talk all day, and due to the GERD had severe throat pain and/or Laryngitis? How long did it last? Did you eventually have to quit your job so that you didn't have to talk as much? I suffered through the first week, but paid dearly for it. Didn't talk for 4 days to rest my throat. Went back to work for one day, now I'm back to calling in sick. Not sure if I'll make it as a teacher.
Avatar n tn It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications. Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Cough is a protective mechanism by the body as it helps to prevent infections.
Avatar f tn It all started a few weeks back with laryngitis and post nasal drip. I started to get my voice back and then I got a severe sore throat and it hurt to swallow and felt like my throat was swollen and it also felt like I had blisters on the back of my throat. My doctor told me to take regular mucinex to help with the pnd and to call back if it didn't get any better. After that was when my throat started hurting really bad.
Avatar f tn I am still short on energy and have a lot of post nasal drip., headaches, laryngitis, very sore throat and get periods of shortness of breath. The doctor gave me a prescription for a cough suppressant. He said it's a virus. I do have white patches on the opening to my throat and the surrounding tissue is pale. I've tried a netti pot, ginger and honey tea, garlic, etc. I can't get relief!
Avatar f tn I went back and reread my original thread and I never mentioned post nasal drip anywhere in there. I appreciate your effort to keep the boards clear of excessive symptom-posting, whining and malingering. And I'm really not trying to be difficult. But... I simply would like to know why there are two SUCH opposing views on the issue of post nasal drip as a warning sign of early HIV issue.
Avatar f tn I took the first dose and it made me have some strange side effects so he told me to stop. Now I have post nasal drip and my laryngitis is still there although getting better. I have done everything for the laryngitis, steam, cool mist humidifier, room temperature water (about twelve 8oz glasses a day), resting my voice. It is getting better very slowly. Now I have a post nasal drip and I am coughing up greenish/yellowish sputum but it's from the back of my throat not my lungs anymore.
Avatar f tn I have had a series of symptoms going on 3 weeks, from a nasal drip, to mucus, laryngitis, to now a deep chest couph. Am on amoxicillin but it doesn't seem to be helping. My chest has this "gurgling". Any help. Getting tired of being sick.
Avatar m tn I'm a 21 year old male. Four weeks ago, I came down with what seemed to be a cold. I experienced congestion, cough, and laryngitis a day or two after exposure to large amounts of hay and agricultural lime. Taking this into consideration, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not it was a cold or just an alergic reaction. The symptoms have drastically decreased.
Avatar f tn I have tinnitus and post nasal drip. I notice it mostly when I'm home. When I go on vacation the tinnitus is not noticeable and my post nasal drip eases up. Could the these be caused by allergies? Could they be something I'm allergic to either in my home or environment? I have had allergy testing for foods and air borne pollens, etc. I am allergic to dust mites. Could that be a culprit? I live in a fairly dry environment.
Avatar f tn Infected tooth roots from the upper teeth can go inside the maxillary sinus and cause sinusitis. The post nasal drip could be due to this. You might need a CT of the sinuses for more information. However, if you do have an infected tooth, you will still need to have this addressed as dental infections can be potentially life-threatening. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I have post nasal drip and also an upset stomach a lot of the time. When my stomach is sick, the only way to help it feel better is to eat. But then that doesn't last too long. Do you think my upset stomach is de to the dripping? What do you think is the best remedy for this? Thank you - This discussion is related to HELP!! Can Chronic Post Nasal Drip Cause Stomach Problems? Can allergy symptoms change?.
Avatar m tn It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper assessment. In the meantime practice good breathing exercises, humidify your room and do steam inhalations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I too suffer with awful post nasal drip and also gerd. I take zyrtec and Rhinocort Aqua, it is nasal spray and it does help. I have tried other nasal sprays but this one seems to work the best.
Avatar m tn The other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the wind pipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections. Giving up cigarettes will abolish smoker's cough in 90% of people.

Avatar n tn I have had post-nasal drip/chronic sinusitis/chronic bronchitis for all my very long life. I used to get 2 or three coughs a year that lasted for weeks, sometimes ending in pleurisy. I went to doctors, and eventually had to diagnose my problem myself: my sinuses were dripping down my throat and becoming infected and causing the cough. Eventually I had a CTscan of my sinuses and the official diagnosis: Chronic sinusitis.
Avatar m tn Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate. So, please discuss with your doctor and focus on having the basic cause resolved and if needed consult an allergist. Regards.
Avatar f tn If you have chronic sinusitis then it can lead to continuous production of mucus and less drainage leading to post nasal drip. Transillumination test and X-Ray or CT sinuses can help in diagnosing it. If allergic rhinitis is the cause of PND then it can be diagnosed by skin ***** tests or blood tests like RAST. Take plenty of fluids throughout the day and inhale steam as many times as possible. .
Avatar n tn ME TOO!!! I have battled the PND for years.I have to be really careful not to catch a cold because it can last months and months due to the wonderful enviroment my PND has provided. I would agree that psuedoephidrine is great for drying up and alleviating cough but now available only on script. The TCM equivalent is Ephedra.I have also had some success with clearing the sinuses with acupuncture. It is also definitly worth stopping both dairy and gluten products in the diet .
Avatar f tn Hi, I went to the clinic few days ago and the doc said that I might have post nasal drip because I spit out mucus, stuffy nose,cough,sneeze,....He gave me a nasal spray and said that if it doesn't work come back for allergy testing. How long would it take for this medication to work ? and if this medication doesn't work how many weeks or months should I wait to see the doc ? Thanks He also ask me if I have any allergies but I couldn't answer because I don't know ;0.
Avatar f tn When I went to see the Doctor, they did different tests and diagnosed Post Nasal Drip along with Acid Reflux, I am loads better but nobody seems to be able to give me anything that gets rid of this awful feeling, constantly clearing of the throat and this thick mucus or whatever in the back of my throat. There moan over :) feels better just to write it down. Flossy.
