My father has been on antibiotics for rather a long period of times (90 different types of antibiotics in about 2 months in succession for a flu that led both to sinus infections and laryngitis that didn't easily go away.
He's now off antibiotics and feels generally OK except for bloating, heartburn and fresh bright blood in his stool :( Can that be serious considering the huge number of antibiotics he has taken?
Acute pharyngitis and laryngitis is the commonest cause of loss of voice due to infection and inflammation of the voice box and throat. This active infection, coughing, and clearing throat can often result in break in small blood vessels. Usually these heal with treatment of laryngitis which involves antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic drugs along with maybe decongestants, warm saline gargles and throat elixirs.
Okay, since 1992 I have had lots of throat infections in 1995 I had my tonsils and adanoids removed to help however it never did. And still had aleast 7 throat infections and laryngitis a year but since January this year I have had 20suvere throat infections all with laryngitis.
Next day I got mouth infection ( just soar throat no fever no flu symptoms) and doctor (ENT) suggested some antibiotics, after which I was feeling OK in a day. I thought it was a strep and asked for a swab test. Couple days later doctor confirmed its nothing. I had tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) before I had sex with her. Later I took the girl to the blood test for which she was tested positve for HSV1 and she was having cold sores on her face. she was tested negative for HSV2.
I wnet to a Doctor before getting on my return flight and he said he thought I had laryngitis likely caused by a viral infection. Therefore, he did not prescribe antibiotics.
It has been about 9 days since the sexual encounter and I am wondering what my risk factors are. Could the oral sex have exposed me to an STD taht would cause a sore throat and laryngitis? If so, which STD would be most likely?
restasis rx for dry eye 1/11 thurs 1/30 i started alot of post nasal symptoms by sat i had laryngitis severe by sunday went to er, they said stop restasis. viral syndrom dx. is laryngitis a side effect? i am very sensitive to all rx drugs and antibiotics , i have intolerences so did these eye drops cause this , also on synthyroid for goitors need help, i stopped the drops but i have this post tickle coughing jags no fever no rash ..
If the pain is internal then it can be due to laryngitis or inflammation of the voice box. Gargling with warm water and antibiotics help. If it is on the outside then it can be due to inflammation of thyroid or a boil or a swollen lymph node. Please consult a doctor as diagnosis is not possible on net.

this all started off with a cold and sore throat. i was diagnosed with tonsillitis and then laryngitis and have had antibiotics for this but its still there over 9 weeks now?! its a bit of a mystery i was wondering if you could help!?!
I orginally went to the Dr for dry cough and laryngitis. Was told I had bronchitis and was given antibiotics (bactrim). A week and a half later, I felt somewhat better. Suddenly two days later, I didnt go to the dr this time, I had sinus drainage hard core. My ears were popping every few seconds, head would pound with movement, and overall just a raw feeling in my throat. I got over that in about 5 days on my own...yay. But then got an allergic reaction of hives and swollen hands and fingers.
However, a side effect of both medications is laryngitis. I recently had laryngitis for 6 weeks. It started as a virus and would not go a way. I decided it was my atrovent neb (an anticholinergic like Spiriva). My allergist thought it was my Dulera (inhaled combination med like Advair). I eliminated the atrovent and reduced my Dulera and the laryngitis healed.
She needs to discus any changes in dosage with her doctor before making changes.
I had the Flu in January, followed by cold and laryngitis. Lost my voice, got it back, but with this persisitant dry sudden cough, that can come anytime. I wake up with it, usually a coughing fit lasts from anywhere from 1-10 mins. After the coughing is over, i have to constantly clear my throat, until all the choaking sensation is gone. Its almost like swallowing into the wrong side of your throat.
have a new dr that i will see next week. my voice has change I get hoarse after I talk a lot. I just got over ON and my eye dr thought I had glaucoma? I had a lot of pain in my eye. he took me next door and put 5 holes in my eye to releases the pressure . it was better? but he still cant give me a answer to what it is. I had ON in 09 and it was the same thing I told him that.but he still had no answer? well its still a little blurry but its a lot better. it lasted a lot longer.
) It is very difficult to hear above the ringing in both ears and, despite the fact I am on medication (antibiotics, hear drops, nasal spray, pain relievers), my hearing seems to be getting worse. Should I just be patient and toughen it out for the next two months, or should I see a ENT doctor?
Now I have post nasal drip and my laryngitis is still there although getting better. I have done everything for the laryngitis, steam, cool mist humidifier, room temperature water (about twelve 8oz glasses a day), resting my voice. It is getting better very slowly. Now I have a post nasal drip and I am coughing up greenish/yellowish sputum but it's from the back of my throat not my lungs anymore. I am going to try a nasal rinse today.
I have a very difficult time getting air past my inflamed voice box and experience inspiratory wheezing (or stridor?) with the dry barky cough, and sometimes a thick yellowish/greenish phlegm will be cleared from my throat. It's very scary feeling like my throat is closing up at times. I drink lots of water, use a humidifier and my albuterol inhaler (which I have for occasional mild asthma)...but that only seems to mildly help.
I have been going through quite a stressfull time and been quite emotional and at times there seems like theres something stuck in my throat.. i have had a throat swab done and there is no infection and i also have no pain.
it is starting to get me down.. i try to bring up phelgm but nothing really comes up but clear stuff.
Can anyone help?

s a virus and that your GP prescribed you antibiotics? Did they do a throat culture? Antibiotics aware useless for viral infections and if over prescribed can result in antibiotic resistance. They should only be used for bacterial infections, which is diagnosed by a throat culture. If you have a cold virus, rest and fluids are your best friends.
Hello everyone. I'm 25 years old and last August I was diagnosed with a severe case of Epstein Barr. I was hospitalized for a period of time and have since then recovered for the most part. The only problem is that I keep coming down with either strep throat, pharyngitis, laryngitis or the h flu every other month. I just recently came down with strep throat again and I'm wondering if there is anything that I can to to prevent getting sick.
I need your help to understand my laryngitis problem and to get it cured. I have been suffering from laryngitis for over 3 months and taking medication for the last 2 months. When I consulted a doctor a couple of weeks ago, he did a stroboscopy and said that it could be due to acid reflux; he prescribed "Pantadoc". I took that for a couple of weeks and did not obsserve any difference.
