Common Questions and Answers about Laparoscopic hysterectomy uterus incision

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?
Avatar n tn I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy 3 days ago and have noticed a rash near the incisions...not directly on the incisions. Also, there is a similar rash under my breasts and along my c-section scar (from 25 years ago). I used to have severe problems with hives many years ago, but have not had the problem lately. I'm hoping this is not a return of same....or something more problematic. Please advise. So far, there is no itching, but it's very red.
Avatar f tn But we also talked about the possibility of cancer, and we agreed if the tumor was cancerous she would abandon the laparoscopic procedure, make a big incision (laparotomy), take out both ovaries, both fallopian tubes, the uterus, and the cervix as well as any tumor tissue she could, and I would spend four or five nights in the hospital.
Avatar f tn By the way, if the cyst is benign, you could be a candidate for a supracervical laparoscopic hysterectomy, or a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy with removal of ovary(s). I'm sure that you don't want more surgery, but you even more don't want more cancer! Good luck!
Avatar n tn Like spreading my legs part is not comfortable to do. Why do I feel any pressure an pain down there I thought laparoscopic hysterectomy meant we did not touch my vagina? And if it is normal, it has been almost 3 months now why is the discomfort still there anyway?
Avatar n tn Surgery was a huge success! Dr. Giselle Ghurani at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (Finkler's group) is brilliant, compassionate, yet cool and hip. I loved having a woman doctor - much more gentle with my virgin surgery body. Removed cantaloupe-sized tumor encasing right ovary, larger than originally thought. I have pictures - but don't want to scare the children! She video taped the surgery for me too. Tennis ball-sized fibroid on uterus. Both benign as expected. 2% malignancy rate.
Avatar f tn I saw my obgyn today and was told in order to relieve my menstrual cramping the next step would be a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had an oblation 2 years ago and it wasn't helping anymore. I was wondering if i will still get my period, he said he would be leaving my ovaries in.
Avatar f tn A small fibroid is not a reason to get a hysterectomy, either. Endometriosis can be treated by laparoscopic surgery, but it is to remove the endometriosis, not the uterus. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to have a hysterectomy? Here is a link that describes endometriosis. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
661941 tn?1297447355 long!)... in order to do a total hysterectomy ( uterus, ovaries, tubes)... this is her preferred method of treatment. (uterus is enlarged with 2 fibroids... 7cm complex mass on LT ovary and 2 cm complex mass on RT ovary) 2~ I asked her why we couldn't just do a smaller incision and take only the ovaries out, as that is what seems to be the biggest concern at the present. She said she can do that, but she apparently doesn't trust "bagging" them.
Avatar m tn I am 51 years old and have 3rd stage uterus prolapsed and my menopause got over 2 he doctor has adviced me surgery. She took a few tests and in the pap smear it showed ASCUS cells. She said it is nothing to worry about but suggested the ovaries be removed as well because of my menopause and age so that it does not turn in to ovarian cancer in the future. I am very worried about the thought of removing ovaries.
20661212 tn?1503080954 She warned me I could have bowel involvement and need to be prepared that she may have to go from laparoscopic to full incision if that is the case. I don't actually know anyone else who has this for me to talk to, am not on FB. I just want to know if anyone else has had this happen to them? I feel very alone, very scared. I am only 40. I am worried this will happen to my daughter, who at 15 already has very heavy periods and lots of pain with them.
Avatar f tn s a light at the end of this tunnel. I had an abdominal hysterectomy in 06 due to fibroid tumors, only left ovaries. Then March 08 had my gallbladder removed. So this is number three and hopefuuly the last. I dread waking up after surgery it's always the worst for me. Wish me luck the patholigists find NOTHING abnormal.
Avatar f tn I have recently found out that I am getting a complete hysterectomy (removal of my cervix, uterus and ovaries). It is being done with robot assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy. I am only 35 yr old and a little bit concerned with menopause and the hormone replacement therapy. I am just wondering what other women have experienced with having a complete hysterectomy and the symptoms of menopause.
Avatar f tn The 2nd is to perform a hysterectomy via an incision to my bikini line and leave my right ovary intact. The recovery time is exactly the same which made me feel a hysterectomy is my best option but now I'm having second thoughts. Can someone advise me?
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy in 4 days. I started my period and will be on the light days at the end by the time i have surgery. Is this a contraindication for proceeding with the surgery or can this procedure occur at any time during the menstrual cycle?
Avatar f tn And just to let you know, she got a laparoscopic hysterectomy done in 2009 July to get that out. And of course, they even took out her uterus and both ovaries, citing future complications. Which resulted in lower back spasms/pain and still continues till this day. Also she gained weight somehow. So i suggest you get a clear picture of all pros & cons before opting for the best possible solution in your case.
Avatar n tn We need both our ovaries, uterus and tubes our whole lives for good health and well-being. Yet, hysterectomy and oophorectomy are two of the top overused surgeries. I hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Had laparoscopic surgery of an ovarian cyst and haven't felt my normal self emotionally.
Avatar f tn If I were you, I would definitely get a second opinion from another GYN and preferable one who has a lot of experience with laparoscopic surgery. A hysterectomy isn't to be taken lightly especially at your age. And, if a hysterectomy is necessary, hopefully it can be done via a lapi. But, definitely get a second opinion.
Avatar n tn Hello, I suggest you talk this over with your ob/gyn and consider a second opinion from a gyn oncologist. The need to pursue complete removal and by what means (laparoscopic surgery vs. open surgery) will depend on your age, other medical co-morbidities or prior surgery, risk factors for ovarian cancer, the desire to avoid future surgery, other findings or the lack there of on imaging and CA 125 level.
Avatar f tn There is a water-signal mass in the pelvis centered slightly to the left of the midline and to the left of the uterus. It measures 6.7 x 6.9 x 8.3 cm. It probably arises from the left ovary. No other ovarian tissue is visible. The uterus and bladder are normal. No pelvic adenopathy or ascites is seen. There is artifact from bilateral total hip arthroplasties. Okay, so I'm ready to have this thing out.
Avatar f tn I have been wondering that myself I had a uterus up lift a couple of years after I had my son about 10 years ago I started to get really bad periods and was really sick all the time about five years ago I went to see an obgyn and he told me I needed to get a hysterectomy they tried to do it laparoscopic but every time they turn me upside down I would die after twice the cut me open and he said that my inside was really messed up and if I had waited to much longer I would been dead but now this
Avatar f tn after having an MRI scan showed it was not endometriosis still causing pain as it was removed but there wasnt vey much,MRI showed ADENOMYOSIS endometri which grown outside the uterus and into the muscle wall so if you are still in pain after 6 weeks ask for an MRI to make sure nothing is left! i still have my uterus so only option is hysterectomy!but definately had 100% success first time and didnt return til 5 years later!
Avatar n tn The doctor said I could still have endo. even if I had a hysterectomy. How? if having a period is the cause?
Avatar f tn He has suggested a partial hysterectomy to remove the uterus and then repair the bladder and rectal area. My concern is leaving the ovaries and fallopian tubes to futher increase the chances of ovarian cancer. I have also have had a history of abnormal pap smears. What do I need to be concerned about?
Avatar m tn However, they say that laparoscopic surgery is impossible due to the size. They plan to cut an incision from her genitals up to her belly button. Then, if they find out the cyst was malignant and the cancer spread to her uterus, they will take that out in a second surgery. Something doesn't sound right to me about their story, and I don't understand why they can't figure out more from doing a biopsy.
