Laparoscopic hysterectomy for cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Laparoscopic hysterectomy for cancer

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn By the way, if the cyst is benign, you could be a candidate for a supracervical laparoscopic hysterectomy, or a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy with removal of ovary(s). I'm sure that you don't want more surgery, but you even more don't want more cancer! Good luck!
Avatar f tn The DaVinci Robot adds a helpful tool for complex surgery such as radical cancer surgery (radical hysterectomy) or surgery on people who may be challenging because of their size (very over weight).
Avatar n tn I am scheduled for a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy in 4 days. I started my period and will be on the light days at the end by the time i have surgery. Is this a contraindication for proceeding with the surgery or can this procedure occur at any time during the menstrual cycle?
Avatar f tn I have recently found out that I am getting a complete hysterectomy (removal of my cervix, uterus and ovaries). It is being done with robot assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy. I am only 35 yr old and a little bit concerned with menopause and the hormone replacement therapy. I am just wondering what other women have experienced with having a complete hysterectomy and the symptoms of menopause.
Avatar n tn Would you go through with a partial hysterectomy for spotting all throughout the month or would you do a uterine biopsy first to rule out cancer then just deal with the bleeding and heavy periods?
Avatar m tn If you do not have a family history / predisposition for ovarian cancer then your risk for ovarian cancer is very low. In the U.S., a woman's LIFETIME risk of ovarian cancer is less than 2%. Since the ovaries are ESSENTIAL for lifelong health (they produce hormones at least until age 80), you do not want them removed unless it is necessary. Their removal is associated with numerous increased health risks, two of which are heart disease and osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. Recently I was diagnosed with endocervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS). I had a leep procedure and that's how it was discovered. I'm now scheduled to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I get to keep my ovaries. I'm 31, no children and I don't want any so that's not a problem for me. But I'm still struggling. I'm scared to have the hysterectomy because the recovery process seems so long and painful and one of my biggest fears is pain.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I am scheduled for a hysterectomy probably within the next 2 months. I have previously had an ovary removed due to a dermoid cyst. The remaining ovary is giving me lots of pain so have decided to go for hysterectomy with removal of remaining ovary. My consultant says he will see how I go without any hrt. Am slightly concerned about this as I know I will go into instant menopause. I didnt get to ask too many questions. Anyone advise me please.
1852163 tn?1321383972 I let you know what all I find out, right now all I know is I am scheduled for a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy and whatever deemed necessary (thats what it says on my papers) and a whole bunch of blood work, including CA-125.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am having laparoscopic hysterectomy with ovary removel.(Brca gene) I have a one year old baby. I was told I can't pick up anything over 10pounds. No yoga or anything either . For 4 weeeks. Wow is this really true?? Is there a procedure with better post op recovery?
Avatar f tn I’m scheduled to see the specialist in the next month, I’m curious if these are too big for laparoscopic removal and if so how long is my recovery?
701563 tn?1228359916 Thank you so much for the prompt reply. It was very helpful. You touched on all the points of my concern. I didn't like the idea of just leaving the polyp in there and always having to worry about it. I guess it is time for me to get a second opinion from another gyn to see if they think they can possibly try another hysteroscopy and if not, have a discussion about a hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn I am 2 weeks post op....hysterectomy...I am experiencing severe left sided low back pain... Could this be related to the surgery?
Avatar n tn My doctor suggests that I get a hysterectomy. I do not want to try any medications because I feel that they will only mask the problem and eventually I will have to deal with it. I have two children, and don't plan on having additional children. My doctor suggested performing the hysterectomy laparoscopically to avoid opening me up again. She will remove the endometriosis through coagulation. Do you think that these two methods are the appropriate treatment?
Avatar n tn They believed that the cancer never really went away, and is so small that the CAT scan did not pick it up. On March 1st, I had a full hysterectomy. My uterus was sent out to a lab for studies. The studies showed that the cancer began in both of my ovaries, and it is platin resistant. At this point they are offering me a clinical trial in Rhode Island. It is a double blinded study, and has three arms. The drug that is being used is Amgen and taxol, and the third arm is just taxol.
922475 tn?1243962297 Newly diagnosed with uterine cancer... can a laparoscopic hysterectomy be done with this problem? Does it require being cut from side to side? Just wondering... would like to not have a huge wound site.
Avatar f tn I have no experience or knowledge of your experience, but I was curious whether your operation for ovary and tube removal in 2005 was via laparoscopic surgery or open laparotomy?
Avatar n tn Like spreading my legs part is not comfortable to do. Why do I feel any pressure an pain down there I thought laparoscopic hysterectomy meant we did not touch my vagina? And if it is normal, it has been almost 3 months now why is the discomfort still there anyway?
Avatar f tn I saw my obgyn today and was told in order to relieve my menstrual cramping the next step would be a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had an oblation 2 years ago and it wasn't helping anymore. I was wondering if i will still get my period, he said he would be leaving my ovaries in.
Avatar f tn I had hysterectomy and rectocele surgery done on Friday 2/13/15.. I'm not superstitious so the date don't matter...haha! But I did have a lot of scar tissue from having my cervix removed in 1993 from cancer and had a lot of scar tissue from endometriosis, and from several lapriscopes so my surgery took longer. The sent me home that night with a script of oxycodone/as a 4.835/325mg. This only my 3rd day I understand.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had a hysterectomy that started out laparoscopic then went to abdominal? Do you have any advice for recovery ? Tips? Heads up?
Avatar f tn If it is necessary to perform a full hysterectomy for a benign tumor, most women will spend one night in the hospital. If a malignancy is found, a full hysterectomy is performed. here is a very good link on that surgery best wishes http://www.uptodate.
Avatar f tn If someone has recommended a hysterectomy for endometriosis, look for another doctor. A small fibroid is not a reason to get a hysterectomy, either. Endometriosis can be treated by laparoscopic surgery, but it is to remove the endometriosis, not the uterus. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to have a hysterectomy? Here is a link that describes endometriosis. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
