Lantus with humalog

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus with humalog

lantus

Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Avatar n tn I use humalog before bed time and lantus at night. I notice that eversince my sugar levels have been in a ok range, ,my weight has increased by 4 lbs. Does insulin make u gain weight even if you eat healthy???I was thinking of starting to take lantus in the morning....
Avatar n tn i have that stupid fear of giving him to much insulin and then he gets lantus. i guess the ? is , is there any problem with giving him those 2 too close together and if his bs still seems up after a insulin shot and lantus, do u just keep giving more until his bs goes down?
Avatar f tn I have yet to check humalog, but I imagine they offer the same thing. I am on Lantus and Humalog as well and the price of these insulins has almost doubled in the past couple years.
Avatar n tn This aspect of Lantus is great. During the day the carbs are pretty easy to compensate for with Humalog. However, this new ease is, for the first time, making me think seriously about a pump. If a pump could take battering like falling off horses and could accomodate heavy, sweaty and twisty exercise such as in the gym, skiing, Yoga twisting, etc. that would be a real plus. Has anyone compared these two things besides possibly a huge cost associated with the pump?
Avatar n tn Thanks everyone for your quick answers. This doctor is aggressive and I'm ok with that to a point. After 40 years of this, I won't put one extra unit into my body that I don't think is needed. Or, I know how far I can "push" myself, then my guard goes up. This has kept me out of ER's and an active career women. Yes, even "lived alone" for many years, no dramatic stores to tell even then.
Avatar n tn I use Lantus cartridges in a Humalog pen. And it works perfectly. For me, a major benefit of switching from NPH to Lantus has been the reduced variability in action. And delivery via the Humalog pen appears to be very consistent.
Avatar n tn m 40, Type 1, diagnosed 1990, one Lantus shot per day, Humalog for meals, with sliding scale adjustment for high (which I have to use EVERY DAY). Last A1C was 8.5, which was the best in about 3 years. Blood sugars very bad, lows in 20-25 range, highs up to 500-600. See nurse practitioner at endocrinologist's office. She doesn't know how to help me, so is passing me off to a diabetes center. I feel like I need to adjust my own insulin, because I'm not getting a lot of help.
Avatar f tn and weights well over 230 pounds only takes 34 units of lantus at night and up to 16 units of humalog if he eats pizza. I have told him that the lantus dose is governed by weight and since I weigh 220 and take 33 units a day, he isn't taking nearly enough. I think he is compensating with the humalog, which runs a higher risk that he will and does have insulin reactions. I also started out taking lantus at night.
Avatar f tn I have been diabetic for ten years now and have been taking lantus and humalog this whole time. Well a new doctor Im seeing took me off lantus due to the fact that it could cause my twins to become insulin resistant. She has me taking more of the humalog but it doesn't seem to be helping me and now i have a harder time controlling my sugar where before i kept it pretty well controlled. Should i get a second opinion or does anyone have suggestions?
Avatar f tn My daughter is 17 and is having trouble with adjusting insulin doses...how much lantus would be a good dose to start with?
Avatar m tn I just started on Lantus and Humalog and my blood sugars seem to keep going up, I take 30 U at night Lantus and I take Humalog 10 before meals if my bs is 180 or higher, does this sound right, I was diagnosed a Type 2 about 6 years ago, but the Glipizide and Metformin I was taking has been stopped, but my fasting bs has been 270 or higher any suggestions I know control my diet I get that, I also weigh 239 my Dr's say to loose weight, and I am going to try.
Avatar n tn I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.
Avatar n tn 17 yrs? and now your asking? You R Serious, right? Go ahead take just the Lantus and test every couple of hours after and of course before meals and see what happens.. and I surely Hope you got the book > Think Like a Pancrease my friend..
Avatar n tn My sister also has type 1 and takes lantus at bedtime and then takes humalog for correction AND to cover food with carbs, so in her case, if her BG is not High (if it IS under a particular number that she and her doc have discussed), then she does not need a correction shot AND if she was not going to eat anything containing carbs at that time, she would not need humalog to cover food, HOWEVER, she would still take her lantus shot at bedtime.
Avatar f tn 40). He is really WEAK, when this occurs should more humalog (as in correction) be given? It's bedtime and I don't want him to drop low.
1452593 tn?1285187324 My Dr has prescribed a glucose 2hr PC as part of my regular HA1c bloodwork, and I wonder what he hopes to learn. I use Lantus in the morning for my baseline and Humalog for meals/high sugar etc. His instructions have never been clear when I go for the bloodwork after fasting ( the other tests he runs at the same time as the HA1c require a 12 hr and 8 hr fast). Should I administer both insulins as I would normally (Lantus at brreakfast time and Humalog if the fasting sugar is high, ie.
Avatar n tn I give myself about 21 units of insulin per day--13 units of Lantus and a sliding scale of Humalog between 6-10 units--depending on how many carbohydrates I have eaten--So, it takes me about 2-3 months to use a bottle of Humalog and the Lantus would take longer, but I must open a new bottle every month for consistency issues. Does that help?
Avatar n tn I am forced to go to bed with readings around 20, so that I will wake up with 7-8. I tried to decrease my lantus intake from 28u to 21u, but the nighttime drop didnt decrase or disappaer, insated i started to have very high readings during daytime. I also tried to take lantus twice a day, but that didnt make any difference either. I am wondering whether this is some hormone related issue ,or whether I have developed some resistance vs humalog so it doesnt work well (and the lantus is too much).
Avatar n tn My son recently changed from NPH/R/H to Lantus and humalog pens. This is his fourth day on Lantus. He is doing fine but I am having problems trusting the Lantus - when his b/s drops below 100, I want to give him a can of apple juice, and of course that causes a moderate high. Also, he is not interested in stopping to eat as many snacks and meals because he does not have to 'feed' the NPH. Are these common problems in families starting on Lantus?
Avatar n tn This is a wonderful resource for Type I's...often a minority in support groups, IMHO. My first posting to the forum although I've been type I since age 7...now a healthy 45 year old (female). I am mostly happy with the current combination of Humalog Pen and Lantus. My questions are in regards to Lantus: I understand the "non-peak" aspect...but personally dropped very low in early a.m.'s (about 4-6 a.m) after injecting on a regular basis at 10 p.m.
Avatar f tn I had the same issue and my doctor increased my lantus. It may be necessary to lower your humalog to carbohydrate ratio. My endocrinologist got it spot on.
Avatar m tn as I never heard of these problems with Lantus. Lantus is a 24 hour basal insulin that starts to work in an hour after injected and lasts most of the day without peaking. Also, I have never heard of a Lantus pen but have a call into our local rep to ask. My teenage son has Type 1 diabetes and there is never a dull moment with diabetes, is there.
Avatar n tn this is for 8 hours of sleep.....dont take it with humalog....humalog is only for when you eat and lantus only when you sleep....You guys have got some bad information and I would be afraid if I had your guy's doctors.... take it before you sleep ...just 25 units...
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Insulin glargine is also known as Lantus. Lantus, just like all insulins, can stimulate the body into causing fat production, so it is possible to gain weight on Lantus.
Avatar f tn An alternative, may be to not take it tonight, as your current dose lasts until tomorrow morning anyway, but to use your fast acting insulin during the day tomorrow for corrections if you are higher than normal (I assume you are familiar with using your Humalog for correction of high blood sugars), and then start taking the night time dose tomorrow night following your Drs instruction. Please do check with your Dr, a pharmacist, or your diabetes educator on this question.
