lantus

Avatar f tn I STARTED MY VICTOZA TODAY, MY AIM IS WEIGHT LOSS IM 215POUNDS NOW, IM THE MOTHER OF 4 KIDS, THE LITTLE ONE IS 1 YEAR OLD. I HOP THAT IT WILL WORK WITH ME. ANY ADVICE??????
Avatar f tn If I work to reduce my lantus dosage while maintaining a proper blood sugar will that aid weight loss? Does anything out there help to boost metabolism in diabetics? Frustrated! Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Avatar n tn So my question is can this be causing my weight gain? I think the lantus initially caused me to gain about 20lbs. to begin with 6yrs. ago and I'm now over weight.I'm on my feet constantly at work 9 hrs. a day so I don't think it is not exercising and I don't seem to be losing anything...I am trying to conceive a baby since my blood sugars are well in check now and the weight is not healthy.
Avatar n tn After giving birth, the gestational diabetes took a respite for 6 months and then my sugars shot up and I lost 30 pounds hoping to avoid insulin but I ended up on insulin anyway. I kept off those 30 pounds and was at an average weight until I started Lantus and now I gained back all that weight. While doctors will tell you it's not the insulin as they don't want you to stop taking it, I do believe some insulins (like any medication) have side effects.
Avatar f tn Thinking about going back on lantus to see if the weight comes off then i can prove to her that Its the meds. Has anyone taken toujeo if so what was your experience? Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn I am on lantus and the Novolog pen. I know when I first started lantus I got very anxious and before I had to take it, just in a dead panic. I can not fully answer your question, but I need your help. Can you ask your daughter if her lantus burns, itches, and/or does the area she injects it (arm, leg, stomach) feel heavy or like a big knot is under it?
Avatar f tn I seemed to be gaining a lot of weight since being on Lantus for the last two years as well I have mood swings and irritability and now started having severe lows right after injecting the Lantus (it usually happens if I bleed after my shot and has happened since switching to the Solostar disposable pen needle. Anyone else have any bad reactions to the Lantus.
Avatar n tn While my endocrinologist insist Lantus does not make you gain weight I have gained back the 30 pounds I lost prior to being put on insulin 6 years ago. I even started power walking 4 nights a week and did not lose weight. Very discouraging when weight gain for a diabetic is not healthy. Good luck with you daughter...My dad became Type 1 at 18 months, my brother at 12 years and me at 33 during my pregnancy with my only child.
Avatar n tn Hello! I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Lantus begins to work in about the time frame that you're beginning to sweat. Have you checked your blood sugars when you start sweating? It's possible that it's just your body reacting to a long acting insulin that it's not used to. The body reacts in strange ways, but this isn't a normal reaction.
Avatar f tn Being more concerned about keeping my glucose readings down than weight loss, I rigidly kept and keep my carb intake limit to the 60 limit. The weight just fell off. Now my BMI is less than 25 (163 lbs) and my last a1c was 5.3%. Due to my arthritis, exercise was vitually impossible but I do the grocery shopping and still get to the office most days. It worked for me.

Many people also now believe low carb is more effective for weight loss than low fat so it is all good! Also, obviously combining exercise with weight control makes it easier to lose and maintain weight loss as well as control blood sugar and therefore need less insulin, etc. It's all connected.
Avatar n tn I think if you remember portion size and drink plenty of water AND exercise on a regular basis, you will lose the weight you have gained. As for starting your Lantus in the morning I would check with your endocronologist. Lantus is a 24 hour insulin, so I am not sure what effects taking it in the morning opposed to taking it at night would be, but of course ask.
Avatar n tn I'd get off the Lantus. Lantus is known to cause significant weight gain.
Avatar f tn Was prescribed Lantus 1yr and half ago and for all that time I was telling various doctors and the pharmacy that my sense of smell had been altered that all perfume smelt terrible. I even posted this on the internet. Also that my face cheeks get rash. All the Doctors and Pharmacies ignored me saying they had never heard of such a side effect. Further to much worse facial rash I insisted to go off the Lantus and get something else.
Avatar n tn Dear Danielle, As you may know, we are volunteers here and not medical professionals. We are alsmo most versed in Type 1 diabetes, based on our personal experiences. Be sure to check out whatever you read here or elsewhere on the Internet with a physician who knows your husband's particulars. My first suggestion is that you be sure to work with an Endocrinologist and not a 'GP' for treatment of diabetes. An endocrinologist is a specialist who treats this type of disease.
178107 tn?1315947630 I also take the Byetta now. My doc started me on it in March and I too immediately began to lose weight. It also began to regulate my blood sugars, if fact one day my level was so low that the doc reduced one of my meds from 2 pills twice a day to 1 pill twice a day. I must admit though that when I initially started I had to force myself to eat, whereas I was overeating before. I have not experienced the nausea which many say comes with this med.
Avatar f tn It is often prescribed together with Metformin and Glipozide. I would also hazard a guess that weight control is an issue. Loss of thirty pounds or more may solve the problem.
256607 tn?1248899504 He has been running high and he is taking so much insulin, lantus and humalog. He has also gained weight this past year and we are hoping this new drug will help him. Any thoughts? experience?
Avatar n tn I am a 28 year old female diabetic who was diagnosed when I was 9. I used to be on a regimen where I used both Regular, NPH, and Humalog to balance my blood sugars but it required a lot of effort and a lot of test strips which are so expensive, even with insurance! In January 2005, my endocrinologist started me on Lantus to try to find some balance with my sugars. My a1c readings have been under 6.
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a mom of a type 1 child, and the daughter of a type 2 diabetic. I know that from experiences with my daughter it was hard for her to gain weight. When she was diagnosed the endo wanted her to gain 5 pounds. It took her over year. I have a sitter that is a type one diabetic, she needed to lose weight.
Avatar n tn 125 mg). I also have diabetes. I have gained weight and cannot lose any. It is as if I have a tube in my belly pumping air.....it gets bigger and bigger. Ive had tests done to check my TSH..doc says its normal. I have other issues as well, loss of sex drive, hot and cold, sleepless, tingling in hands, memory issues, headaches. Why can I lose weight? This discussion is related to weight increased - TSH is high.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have recently started using Lantus Solostar and have gained weight. I eat very sensibly and very rarely do I have carbs (mostly salads). I use Novorapid as my quick acting and have low doses of that (10, 6, 8) and 16 Lantus. I have been type 1 diabteic for 26 years (since I was 5) and have not had problems with my weight but in the last 6 weeks have gained 5.1kg I am very active and am finding this hard to deal with.
Avatar f tn and weights well over 230 pounds only takes 34 units of lantus at night and up to 16 units of humalog if he eats pizza. I have told him that the lantus dose is governed by weight and since I weigh 220 and take 33 units a day, he isn't taking nearly enough. I think he is compensating with the humalog, which runs a higher risk that he will and does have insulin reactions. I also started out taking lantus at night.
Avatar n tn will my pancreas completely stop making insulin due to the antibodies? Can anything stop it? I know continued weight loss and exercise will help Type II, but what about Type I. Am I doomed? Thanks for any assistance!
Avatar n tn When I started using 2u Lantus in morning, 2 weeks ago, I'd go low in the late afternoon/early evening, and then my morning sugars would be elevated ... 140s, 150s. So I split the dose: I'm now using 1.5u Lantus AM & 1u Lantus PM. It definitely works better than 2u QD, and I've checked the middle of the night - not a problem. The drug sheet for Lantus doesn't mention BID dosing, but my internet articles do. What are your thoughts, and is Levemir better for BID dosing?
