Lantus insulin pen

Common Questions and Answers about Lantus insulin pen

lantus

Avatar n tn Yes this happens a lot, when switching to lantus or the pump. Lantus is a long acting insulin that has no peak it gives you a steady basal rate similar to the insulin pump. I realize that it is hard to trust the the insulin enought to not have a snack, but it does work, and it is hard to resist the urge to react to the number.
Avatar n tn I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???. I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen.
Avatar m tn Larry: I'm not sure if you live outside of the USA, but my understanding is that Lantus is NOT available for use in a pen here in the US. My daughter just switched to Lantus via syringe & Novolog via pen after 8 years on an insulin pump. Her diabetes educator just gave her the Lantus prescription 3 days ago & said it is not available in any other form. I have read that outside the USA, however, it is sold in pen format.
Avatar f tn My daughter recently switched to Lantus, and has been experiencing a complete lack of energy -- almost lethargy. Her personality has changed as well, and her sugars are running much higher than before. Not sure what the problem is.
Avatar n tn m a bit worried though because this evening (before I read about testing a few units first) when I took my lantus injection (which was a brand new pen fresh out of the refridgerator), there was no insulin on the tip of the needle though I felt the units clicking when I pushed down to inject. Does it seem as if I didn't really inject since there was no insulin drop on the needle? Or might this be the result of a fresh new pen coming of the fridge?
Avatar n tn I use Lantus cartridges in a Humalog pen. And it works perfectly. For me, a major benefit of switching from NPH to Lantus has been the reduced variability in action. And delivery via the Humalog pen appears to be very consistent.
Avatar m tn You may wish to discuss premixed insulin, which is a combination of specific proportions of intermediate/long-acting and short acting insulin in one bottle or insulin pen. Btw, Lantus [not to be confused with Apridra] is a long acting insulin not short [fast].
Avatar n tn I am on Lantus and Novalog. I am using the pen needles. My problem is that the last two Lantus pens I have tried using were working fine , until I got down to about 200 to 240 units left in the 250 unit pens and then I could no longer depress the button. What is going on. and how do I rectify this problem. My insurance company will not allow me to get more insulin by the time I run out of my present amount.
704262 tn?1247674638 I take Novolog and Lantus insulin in the pen forms. I just started taking them like this about 6 weeks ago. I really like them!!! I take the Novolog 5 units in the morning and 5 units in the evenings, with meals. I also use a sliding scale with it. The Lantus I take just before bedtime. Right now, I'm at 25 units, from 45 units 3 weeks ago!!! I've found that when I take both just before bed, my morning fasting blood sugars are really low...like below 80.
Avatar n tn I am on lantus and the Novolog pen. I know when I first started lantus I got very anxious and before I had to take it, just in a dead panic. I can not fully answer your question, but I need your help. Can you ask your daughter if her lantus burns, itches, and/or does the area she injects it (arm, leg, stomach) feel heavy or like a big knot is under it?
Avatar n tn I too have had a couple of bad low sugar episodes... But not from Lantus, but from mistaking my Humalog pen for my Lantus pen. They are not exactly easy to tell apart when you are tired (I take it at night). I was taking 16 units, so imagine the same of Humalog! Wow! Cram those glucose tabs!!! On a pump now (or rather the pod) for the past couple days. Harder to goof up.
Avatar f tn Thats not true I never went under 145 or past 160 but since the lantus and humalog pen I have gained 22 lbs. I eat right, have my green shake, work out, exercise daily. Drink plenty of water. Eat very small healthy meals. I keep gaining weight. Im on a sliding scale because I now have fibrosis of the liver due to metformin And ibuprofen. Im going to ask to just stsy on lantus but levemere is so much better.
Avatar n tn Type 1s always need 2 types of insulin -- one to cover the baseline needs. Lantus is an example of an insulin that covers baseline, sometimes called "basal" insulin. We also need insulin to cover the carbohydrates we eat at meals & snacks. Type IIs sometimes use a combination of insulin and oral meds; some Type IIs use just insulin; others use just oral meds; still others can gain control with diet & exercise.
Avatar f tn I have always been under the impression that insulin should always be refrigerated. I am seeing a patient that receives lantus QD and Novalog TID. she does not keep the pens that are being used, refrigerated, only the unused ones. Although even though they are not kept refrigerated, they do seem to keep her blood sugars under control. I wonder though if they were refrigerated would that make a big difference? I will call her physician if necessary.
Avatar n tn Hi again, Kristin, Actually, while the pump may not be the right thing for you, there is a big difference between Lantus & a pump's basal. When we take a shot o' Lantus (wonderful insulin that it is!), we get a steady impact from that dose for about 24 hours.
Avatar n tn My daughter seems to be having the same problem. She's 15 and takes 68 u of lantus at nite and supliments w/novolog pen when she's eating. They just keep increasing her dosage, but nothing seems to change. She eats pretty decently (for a teen), but she always seems to be high. I also wondered if she might be resistent to the lantus. We've tried new bottles, etc. How many units do you take per day?
Avatar n tn I had it in my head that I should be taking Lantus in the morning and at night. I have been having great readings. Watching what I eat and just now getting into a regular exercise routine. I had to take a new pen out of the fridge today and looked at the directions... says to take at night. So essentially I have been taking double the dose per day. Can this be bad? My readings do not drop below 80 and I feel great. I also take a small dose of Humolog with my meals.
Avatar n tn Lantus is very slow-acting and really rarely causes severe hypoglycemia, in my experience, for warning symptoms occur long before it gets severe. However, if the warning symptoms are not listened to, I have personally noticed that the hypoglycemia that eventually happens makes me feel worse than some of the quick-acting insulins do.
Avatar n tn The currently accepted treatment of choice is a basal (long-acting) insulin like Lantus once or twice a day and a bolus or rapid acting insulin before meals. A fixed dose of bolus like you describe is not as good as developing a carb ratio. You need to take the correct insulin dose each meal to cover what you eat (unless you want to eat the same thing every meal!).
Avatar n tn t take my Novalog fast-acting insulin pen with me. However, I inject myself shortly after the meal, when I get back to the office. The max. amount of time I inject AFTER a meal is about 30 minutes. Is this a bad idea or should I assume that it's better to be late than never? I'm a 26 year old Type-1 diabetic by the way.
443862 tn?1237999439 I am type 2 now on insulin since May 09 and have put on 30 pounds, but sugar is well controlled unless I do somethign stupid like stop taking my insulin in order to not gain weight. ok, well, i'll never do that again...so then, since i hae gained 30 pouns since last may form the insulin (possibly also becaue i stoppe smoking) but how can i control my wieght? the 30 piound weight gain is not good!!!! any help pelase?
Avatar n tn This is the second time it happens to us, the first time it was due to another pen called Insuman, and Lantus in pen type they proved innefective and costed us lots of money in hospital. I wish this doctor or company reimburses us for all these freightening episodes as well as expenses caused by this pens that resulted in fraud for us.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently changed my long acting insulin from lantus 90 units at night, to toujeo 90 units. Since taking toujeo I have gained 8 pound in 3 weeks. I'm so not happy. Lantus I didn't have that problem. I just had hip surgery so I can't move around as much. The doctor is like your making excuses about gaining weight. I follow a vegan vegetarian meal plan I'm not making excuses. I haven't gained weight in two years. I've been losing. She is pissing me off.
