Avatar n tn First diagnosis was a virus had attacked my heart. Upon further evaluation...(on monitors) it was noted that my heart rate was racing up to 160 bpm while at complete rest. After the doctor observed this, I told the doc I have been complaining for years about a very rapid heart rate to many docs only to be dismissed as having "anxiety". I spent a week in the hospital and was sent home on Coreg, Lanoxin, Digoxin, Quinipril. 5 weeks following my EF was up to 30-35%....
Avatar f tn Is he an athlete? Athletes have a larger left ventricle that is very efficient with a reduced heart rate at rest below 60 bpm. The symptoms for an enlarged LV can be shortness of breath, weakness, possibly chest pain, etc., nosebleeds, dizziness and headaches don't usually represent symptoms for DLV. Medication is for high blood pressure (enalapril). I'm not sure why lanoxin (digoxin) is prescribed; it has been recalled!.
641559 tn?1250443489 I have no problem getting my heart rate up when exercising. I recently had a stress test with the dye for my heart and it was normal although my bp went up to 226/176 as I was a nervous wreck about my heart as my mom passed away at 59 of a massive heart attack. My test was completely normal. Should I be concerned about my heart rate or just be happy that it's low? Thanks for any input!
Avatar f tn I was wondering about my heart rate being fast, usually over 100 and if up walking around it is in the 115 to 120 range. It does go down in the 90 range when resting. I had a more severe problem when i was pregnant and took lanoxin. That has been 6 yrs ago and have gone to my doctor and he put a monitor on me for a few days and told me that it does get high but comes down and is not worried about it.
Avatar n tn Left ventricle functionality should be preserved subsequent to CABG and valve replacement. There is often is no improvement of the EF if it was abnormal before the surgery...surgery is oftened contraindicated for a patient with low EF. Heart failure is an EF 29% or below. Six years ago, I was in ICU for several days with congested heart failure. The EF was 13-29% and blood backed up into the lungs causing edema (shortness of breath, dry cough, fast heart rate).
Avatar n tn They use pacemaker to pace it out (mode switching) or regular my heart rate. Doc tried to prescribe a combination of Flecainide with Lanoxin, or Atenolol, or Verapamil. I can't tolerate them. And finally the Flecainide was not working after a few months. Now I didn't on any med. Yeh, all doctors still asked me to keep exercise, play spot etc. Are your SSS caused by med or actually the Sinus node dysfunction (Lazy heart)?
Avatar n tn And yes, I found out from the MIMS that Lanoxin is best taken on an empty stomach, My Dr, can not gv Lanoxin for me as a Maintenance Drug, since my BP is 90/60. And she can not see anything with my heart as showed in my 2D Echo with Doppler. Now she is considering hormonal imbalance, since I am entering a peri menopausal stage. But she advised me too to take a Stress Test to chck on my physio electrical activity. I will keep u posted. I work with animals too and that keeps me active.
Avatar m tn That has been a good increase over three years and a nice thing to see. You don't say what your cause of low EF was. Taking it that the EF was caused by blood pressure problems or something usually reversible, then the current regime of medication is obviously working well. I would also ask your cardiologist what level of exercise you can do, what he recommends as your maxiumum heart rate for exercise.
Avatar n tn My father is 69 years old had a stroke 12 years ago, had pacemaker installed about 8 years ago, he has had a couple heart attacks. he also has congestive heart failure and is always in atrial fib. His heart is now working at 15 percent. i was wondering if there is any medication or what can be done to have his heart pump stronger so he doesnt continue to build fluid in his body. He currently takes lasix, aldactone and coumadin.
Avatar n tn 80 year old woman with hypertension , heart failure, borderline diabetes, history of arrhythmia , thyroid removed, arthritis . Complains of severe back pain, numbness in hands and feet, unsteady on feet (needs walker), incontinence, signs of dementia. My Question: Seemed better on previous medication regime: Norvasc, Lanoxin, Spironolactone, Levothyroxine. Worse on current medication regime: Metoprolol, Benazepril, Isorb Mono Tab, Spironolactone, Simvastatin, Levothyroxine.
4703993 tn?1379768388 We then tried Verapamil 20mg (once again very small dose but it did not work, it lowered my resting heart rate to 38, which made me feel like I was going to faint all of the time, and when I was standing or walking around I was very tachycardic) so needless to say my body does not respond correctly to calcium channel blockers..
Avatar f tn We (including the doctors) believe that the ablation was a complete success. Last week I woke up with a heart rate of 240bpm that scared the living daylights out of me. To begin with, even before the ablation, I never had an episode wake me up. My SVT attacks were always in the 240bmp range so I wasn't alarmed by the speed, just the fact that it felt little different and that I I thought I wouldn't have to deal with it again. I went to the ER to see if I could get an EKG on it...
Avatar f tn The medications really helps and are best. My dad was taking Lanoxin to strength his heart pump and I took his pulse the other day and was it strong. There was quite a change that I felt from before he started taking it. I am glad to hear that you are improving and feeling better. Take care.
Avatar n tn Dear Diana, As was mentioned above, DO NOT stop the medications without discussing this with your cardiologist. Without evaluating your daughter, I cannot say what is happening for sure. However, it is quite likely that your daughter has congestive heart failure, which means that the heart is not able to keep up with the body's metabolic needs. The heart and lungs are likely working much harder than they should be, and need to have some of the extra fluid removed by these medications.
Avatar m tn I had high blood pressure years ago, and after taking one or two medications with little success, I was given 25mg of Atenolol, which worked extremely well. Since then, the dose has been increased to 50mg, and that has done the trick--kept my blood pressure under 140/90. Recently though, I've been having an issue controlling my blood pressure. I felt really crappy a few months ago, and when I came home from a hike, my blood pressure was around 160/100.
Avatar f tn I am going to be doing the same sort of thing that you did with you son, I am going to be starting that today as soon as his monitor arrives. last night we caught his heart rate at 197 and his o2 sats at 90. (my 4 year old has other heart issues too) I really really wished they would do something for my little guy due to the fact it is his heart and I don't want to loose him.
Avatar n tn I do not know very much infomation about the heart problem. I was wondering If anyone who just started going through the same exact problem could tell me some informaiton about Atrial Fibrillaiton. I was also wondering what preventative measures that I can take so I do not have any more problems with the atrial part of the heart is there a medicine or some sort of diet that I can get on to prevent any more symptoms.
Avatar m tn Hello All My mother went through a CABG(Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)almost 6 months back.
Avatar n tn If you also have a high heart rate, then the Metoprolol may help, it will also lower you blood pressure whether you need it or not. On the other hand 25 mg is a low dose and if it helps I wouldn't worry about being on it. It may be the most widely used heart medication there is, so there it has been extensively tested, by real patients, me included.
Avatar n tn my doctor prescribed me some medications for my heart like coumadin, lanoxin, lasix, cardipress, zarnat, and aldazide... is this a life treathening? when will i stop to take these medicines? or does it take a years to stop these medcines? is it true that heart patient like me has a shorter life span compared to a normal person? help me plz, im already 27 yrs old....
Avatar n tn Wife, 89, has history of atril fib and is prescribed lisinopril (40mg), lasix (40mg) and lanoxin (20mg) along with coumadin (5mg) daily. Recent wide-ranging BP/Pulse readings (160's/80's and pulse below 50) led to adding Toprol XL. First tab last night at bedtime resulted in lowered BP (128/50 and pulse of 41) this AM. Accompanied by inability to urinate (except few drops) for a water drinker.
Avatar f tn In this condition medications are used to decrease the heart arte like lanoxin, beta-blockers, and calcium channel blockers. Afib is slowing down may mean that your doctor is telling you about the progression of the disease or its improvement. It is best to clarify your concerns with a cradiologist.Keep me posted on how you are doing. Best luck and regards!

My symptoms are increasingly worse since being diagnosed wit all this in November. I was previously a runner and very healthy, had mild asthma that was under control with signular.
