Lamictal vs risperdal

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal vs risperdal

lamictal

Avatar f tn It will take a few months to build up to a full dose of Lamictal and if you have angry outbursts that get physical your psychiatrist might want you to take Risperdal and then as the Lamictal builds up to a full dose see if you can do without it so that you have full stability in the meantime as Risperdal unlike Lamictal works right away. Risperdal of course has a good mood stabilization effect. They can coordinate about this as well.
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
Avatar n tn Risperdal is generally sedating rather than activating and Lamictal as well though in higher doses Lamictal can sometimes worsen mania as an occasional side effect though each person responds differently to each medication. Best to discuss these concerns with his psychiatrist so they can adjust and/or change his medication as needed.
Avatar n tn I waited a few months to make sure that going off of the Lithobid did not worsen any of my syptoms, and then started a long process of going off of my Risperdal. I was taking 4mg and over about 5-6 months I slowly got off of that as well. I had been very apprehensive about what problems might arise without the Risperdal. In the past I have had a lot of problems with anxiety and manic phases.
Avatar m tn I was somewhat manic when I was on Risperdal but it most likely was an interaction with Lamictal which at higher doses can cause mania and I was on a fairly large dose at the time.
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
1806584 tn?1316208037 We are on Lamictal, Lithium and Abilify and are thinking of going Lamictal alone also. How is Lamictal monotherapy going for your, and were you able to wean off Abilify from 10 to 0?
Avatar f tn //bipolar.about.com/b/2009/04/13/fda-orders-suicidal-ideation-warning-on-many-mood-stabilizers.htm?nl=1 The drugs which must now carry this warning are: Depakote (divalproex sodium) Gabitril (tiagabine) Keppra (levetiracetam) Lamictal (lamotrigine) Neurontin (gabapentin) Tegretol (carbamazepine) Topamax (topiramate) Trileptal (oxcarbazepine I would agree with the statement that the risk is greater left untreated than with them. My suicidal ideations are MUCH less being treated vs.
Avatar m tn If it was being used as a mood stabilizer (not an antipsychotic) Lamictal and Tegretol are quite effective mood stabilizers. I personally found Lamictal to be more tolerable and more effective but each person reacts differently to each medication. Go to the welcome page and we have some websites linked up for informational purposes about mood stabilizers. Speak to your psychiatrist about all this.
Avatar f tn I just weaned myself off risperdal and lamictal and I have terrible insomnia. Maybe it's just coincidental because I'm 51 and probably perimenopausal but it is impossible for me to get a good night's sleep without Ambien. It takes 1 1/2 hours to fall asleep and I toss and turn all night. I was diagnosed last summer with bipolar type II and I began to doubt the diagnosis and I realized that my psych had me overmedicated...
Avatar n tn Hello, My friend's daughter is bipolar with somatic features (she feels like her head is bleeding) and she is on lithium but it isn't helping. She had a bad reaction to Lamictal and some antidepressants but good results with thorazine. Is there any meds you can recommend, alone or in a coctail? thanks.
Avatar m tn hi roscoe230 -- you didn't say how long you've been taking lamictal. It will take 4-6 weeks for the drug to settle in. I stumbled, mumbled, and bumbled, too, but got through it.
2010625 tn?1329372056 The only thing that made it go away was the Risperdal they put me on. Unfortunately I had to go off of it because it raised my prolactin (the hormone that makes women lactate and can also stop a womans period) level sky high. So now that I am not on it anymore the nervousness and irritability is coming back. I am on Latuda now but it doesn't seem to be working as good as the Risperdal did. I am not sure what to do. I just don't want to be all nervous and irritable again.
Avatar f tn My doc started me on lamictal, with 25mg/day and gradually working up. I'm now on 50 mg/day and tomorrow will go to 100mg, then a week later to my maintenance dose of 200mg/day. That seems like an awfully high dose to me. I'm feeling a lot better now on just the 50 mg -- why do I need to keep upping the dose? I don't see my doc for another month so that's why I'm posting the question here, to get other opinions before I go to see him.
Avatar n tn OK I JUST STARTED TO TAKE RISPERDAL CONSTA 37.
Avatar f tn m at my last resort after being on Depakote, Lamictal, Geodon, and Cymbalta. If anyone has had any experience with either of these drugs, I'd like to know what you thought of them.
741315 tn?1232458427 Lamictal as a mood stabilizer is tolerable. Risperdal as an anti-psychotic is generally tolerable but can be sedating. Abilify has less sedation. Celexa is an anti-depressent. That can have its side effects but you may need that. For more information on other anti-depressents google "Depression Central". Xanax is generally used short term as an anti-anxiety medication. Klonopin or another medication in the same category is safer used long term.
Avatar f tn hey, i have rapid cycling bipolar and am on a lot of medication, prozac, lithium, lamictal, seroquel. i have put on a lot of weight since going on these meds, ive practically doubled in size! im coming off prozac and intend to come off anything except lithium. 559509 tn?1216180446 Does anyone out there take Risperdal for Bipolar Disorder? I don't see hardly any mention of it around this site. Does it make you gain weight like Depakote? Does anyone out there take it for Bipolar Disorder Type 2? Any opinions or thoughts? I am currently on Lamictal and Welbutrin. I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania).
607502 tn?1288247540 one day, I remember I tried to think hard which combo is perfect for BP and came with the conclusion that lamictal+seroquel is best. I thought because lamictal works upwards (i.e. good for depression, plus little side effects like weight gain and rashes rare) while seroquel works downwards (strong antimanic) also one is AC while the 2nd an AP so a flower from every garden and they must equalize each other.
Avatar f tn I've usually always take a mood stabilizer, ie. Lamictal & a anti psychotic, ie. Seroquel. I take them in combination or ill be extremely manic. I've tried depakote & the only issue was weight gain & slight hair loss. I haven't noticed many side effects w/ lamictal. I think combining lamictal w/ lithium is a good decision.
Avatar m tn I am wondering if this is a plausible cause. He was also on Risperdal and Depakote and Trileptal and Terazadone and Lamictal, of course not all at the same time. I am sure I spelled all these meds wrong. We are having trouble finding any professional who will take an active interest in the urgency of our problem with both the aggression and the onset of these tic behaviors. We really need some help.
Avatar m tn I have a thing against antiphycotics but I do take Lamictal, a mood stabilizer. You may want to give Risperdal a try.
Avatar n tn Hello. My name is Ed. I have Bipolar II. I was diagnosed in 2005 and stabilized with Lamictal and Abilify. However, I've never really gotten a handle on irritability. Although I've dealt with anxiety and depression, those have more or less been managed. But I still find myself having uncontrolled irritability, and I get crazy over things that wouldn't make a normal person crazy (chirping of car alarms, people whistling, other stupid stuff).
Avatar f tn combination of medications for someone who needs to suppress menstrual periods and is also taking Lexapro and Lamictal for Major Depression with Bipolar 2 ? My daughter tried taking Yasmin continually (not taking the "fake" week of pills for 3 months) but experiences almost daily cramping, hot and cold flashes, nausea. The gyne was stumped as to which BC pill would be best, as Yasmin is for the PMDD, but causes the side effects for her.
Avatar n tn Hi- I developed severe akathisia after taking risperdal at night for sleep- it has been over 3 months since I have been off the meds and am suffering terribly. The neurologist I saw put me on xanax and I am up to 2 mg a day- divided throughout the day. As soon as the dose wears off I begin feeling horribly, anxious, more restless. I have been taking the xanax since May- and origionally was on a dose anywhere between .75 a day to maximum 1.
