Avatar f tn other than draining the fluid wth needle, what can I do to afford fluid from building on knee after I run This discussion is related to Swollen Knee.
1470596 tn?1286713970 I had this problem and realised thanks to my physio, that I overpronated when running. This can cause knee problems which is why I needed to buy shoes with arch support which stops the foot rolling inwards. For walking you can buy orthotic insoles but I would not recommend running with these. I use Adistar Salvations to run. A good running shop will check you for pronation before you buy. Also this might seem obvious but are you stretching before and after running.
Avatar m tn From my knee down is swollen and red and painful. I went in to see my surgeon yesterday and he sent me directly to get an ultra sound which was negative for blood clots. I was more active on the day it starting swelling but my doc said to keep walking on it. My question is if this is normal with this surgery or have I over done it ? Should I wear a ace bandage or brace when walking ? (the bandage sure does make it feel better)...
Avatar m tn I started noticing that after running for 3 to 5 miles, I get bruises on my knee (the left knee has darker / larger bruise than the right knee). The bruises only hurt like a bruise when I press down on them. But they are not particularly painful when I walk or run the next day. I run about twice to 3 times a week. Question: Is this someting that I need to pay more attention to or is there any knee exercises that I can do? Thank you!!
Avatar f tn Hi there my husband underwent partial knee replacement surgery 10yrs and then second knee 6years ago. his knees have been fine and he started gentle running again after many years of not being able to due to pain. 5years ago whilst jogging he experienced a near fatal anaphylactic shock and was later diagnosed with exercise induced anaphylaxis but only after eating wheat. All has been well for a number of years but then a couple of wks ago another problem occurred.
Avatar n tn Excuse me if this is not an appropriate place to post this question. I run. Both my calves are very tight but don't ever hurt. My right leg under the knee is swollen and leaves an imprint if I indent it with my thumb. Running injury? Vascular problem? Don't worry about it?
Avatar f tn So, try to be patient for a couple of days, HOWEVER, if you continue to notice a decline in your mobility or increase in pain levels, especially if you start running a fever or your knee is red, swollen and warm - IMMEDIATELY get in touch wtih your doctor or head to the ER. Any time you puncture the skin, there is chance of infection. I hope you feel better soon!
Avatar m tn My problem is that it has been weeks since my operation but the knee is still badly swollen and sore and i am still struggling to straighten it and bend it behonf 40 degrees..
Avatar f tn The pain spread over the week to his left knee (which he sprained in January and healed). The knee became swollen and tender to the touch. He spiked a slight fever on the third day. X-rays are normal. But his CBC came back and the hospital said his normal blood count should be 14 and it is 14.8. This is the 3rd time in 8 months his count is elevated, and the first time it was double the normal amount.
Avatar m tn Hello! It's been four months now that my right knee is slightly swollen. The swelling is visible on the knee itself and the bottom part of my quadricep. It is not much but it's visible especially when compared with my other knee. I don't feel pain, only minor discomfort which gets a bit worse and spreads to a larger area (the discomfort, not the swelling) when I stand up or sit down for too long.
Avatar n tn My mom is in training for a marathon, and had to quit after complaining of severe pain in her hips. She went to the doctor and after bone scans, x-rays, and the like; the doctor said it was burrcitous (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong). At first she thought it was arthritis, but it just kept getting worse. She's not allowed to run anymore.
Avatar m tn Shortly after the Chicago Marathon (didn't run in it, but chased friends throughout Chicago that did run), I started to have severe pain and some swelling in my left knee (previously twisted it in HS, approx. 8-9 years ago, never went to MD). I initially just assumed it was from running around so much since it usually did that after I would be on my feet for more than 8 hours (used to work retail). However, after 3-4 weeks the pain never went away and only got worse.
Avatar n tn Exactly 2 weeks ago, after jogging, two off-leash dogs playing tag slammed into the front of my R knee, and knocked me over. Swelling and pain started soon after, and got worse over the next few days. Particularly on the center, sides and above my knee. At first I alternated between hobbling around and using crutches, as well as R.I.C.E. but I have become more strict about staying off the bad leg, hoping soon I will be able to walk again.
Avatar m tn ) Patella, which was an injury to the cartilage in the knee. Surgery took care of it mostly and after about 8-9 months after surgery I was almost as good as normal. Still have discomfort(on a small scale compared to before) from time to time, but nothing requiring even an ibuprofen to deal with. Hopefully, yours is as easily dealt with. My well wishes and respect to those still serving in the sandbox and beyond. Coming, for what its worth, from a Med Retired USN..You all do Us proud.
Avatar n tn I used to get that whenever I ran on asphalt as opposed to a nice cushy running track. This ache after running prompted me to only use soft surfaces to run on and to wear good shoes etc. This was when I was in my 20's. I've not had the pain at all since and I am now well into my 40's, actually knocking on 50. Flashing forward , I walk a bit but most of my working out is doing Vinyasa flow/Power yoga on a soft mat. I've been doing yoga for years.
Avatar f tn Recently I went to Halloween Horror Nights at universal studios and when I came home, I noticed a couple highly red blotches on my legs, specifically on my left leg anywhere below my knee. They burn a lot, specifically to the touch and and even more under running water. If I scratch them or something, they become slightly swollen but feel very warm. This exact same thing happened last year when I went there as well, and the blotches when away after about a week.
Avatar n tn the next morning i couldnt walk on it the it gradually got better through the week then i went to a skatepark yesterday and when jumping off something it came back it wasnt fully healed yet anyway but it is swollen about 1/2 the size of my knee cap and hurts when i squat, or do things that put pressure on it. Its a hard swollen knot.
Avatar f tn My knee is still a bit swollen and I am still icing 2-3 times per day. I go back to see my surgeon in 2 weeks and would like to know if others have been referred to the physio sooner as this will be 5.5 weeks after surgery. I would also like some advice from people on how pregnancy would affect my rehabilitation.
Avatar m tn Hi! About 9 days ago I got a MCL (medial ligament) sprain on my left knee, doing sports, i'm in my mid 30s. Minor swelling and some pain to knee. The knee started feeling around 80% better about 3 days ago. I wore knee brace every day even to sleep, 2 days ago I changed to a more comfortable brace with those metal hinges on sides, also slept with it. My current issue/question, is 2 days ago I woke up with a swollen ankle and pain when putting leg down to walk.
Avatar f tn I am looking forward to continue with my running habit, but should I slow down or pause after some time while running? I mean I don't run that long. Or, are they some steps I should follow, does this happen only when you are beginner and does your body get over these injuries with time?
Avatar m tn Moreover, yesterday my doctor injected depo-medrol on my infected joint. And today my knee is extremely swollen and stiff, more than ever. I can barely bend my knee to 90 degree. My question, Is this swelling and stiffness normal after being injected with depo-medrol ? Or is this a side-effect ?
Avatar f tn Recently while I was on holiday by the seaside, I wake up with my knee all swollen and inflamed. I rested then but as soon I walked a bit again it started to swell. So after the holyday I had an MRI scan and the orthopedics tell me that I have the patella/femoral syndrome and that i need to do exercises to make my quadriceps stronger or maybe surgery.
Avatar m tn Pain, swelling, popping sound in the knee could be due to arthritis, as it is the most common cause of pain in the knee after recurrent injuries to the knee. Burning, tingling and radiation of the pain to the hip and ankle relates to compression of nerve. I would suggest that you visit a orthopedician and get x-ray and MRI of the knee to confirm with the diagnosis. All the best.
Avatar f tn the PT says its because there is still fluid, but he wants to send me back to my ortho/surgeon due to the fact that the fluid build up should not be there. My whole knee IS NOT swollen, just that lump where the fluid is. I did have a patella release 20yrs ago on that exact same spot my fluid is building up. Again, the fluid build up is not where the surgery holes were done.
Avatar f tn Summer 2016 I also noticed when I would be sitting in the sun with my knee bent it would cause a burning sensation only in the right knee which was painful. Just wondering if you think it's bad enough to go see an orthopaedic doctor or will I just have to live with it? I'm moving to Canada soon and because I'll be going skiing/snow boarding I'm a little nervous with it, also it would be nice to be able to kneel.
Avatar f tn MRI says- severe bone bruising and bleeding, micro fractures of tibia, 2 complex menus all tears-anterior and posterior, grade2-3 cartilage thinning, fluid above knee and in knee behind patella, bathers cyst, ligament strain, some bone growth and early osteoarthritis. What the hell do I do- I am thinking lose weight, swim, take chondritin, glucosamine, vitamin c, see a knee surgeon... what I DONt want is a knee replacement. It is a bit stiff, swollen and aches.
20812737 tn?1519267696 I will only have regular socks and running shoes for my feet. I had pretty bad swelling of the foot and ankle for about ten days after the flights over here. Would it be a good idea to put those compression sleeves on before beginning the 25 hour travel marathon to return home to the usa?
Avatar f tn I had total knee replacement in April of 2007 and continue to have a nagging pain in the knee area as well as it stays slightly swollen all the time. The pain is a burning and stinging sensation and is made worse when I try to walk any length of time. Therefore, I don't get much exercise. The pain subsides with rest at night but when arisinig in the morning it's back and still swollen. Due to the swelling the knee doesn't bend as far as it should.
