Knee surgery running

Common Questions and Answers about Knee surgery running

knee

Avatar m tn I started noticing that after running for 3 to 5 miles, I get bruises on my knee (the left knee has darker / larger bruise than the right knee). The bruises only hurt like a bruise when I press down on them. But they are not particularly painful when I walk or run the next day. I run about twice to 3 times a week. Question: Is this someting that I need to pay more attention to or is there any knee exercises that I can do? Thank you!!
Avatar n tn 22 days clean and no knee surgery needed so I will not have to face a hurdle that I was expecting!!! MRI results were strong and the doc said a few more weeks of taking it easy and I can start running again but in a more responsible way... Anyway my road to recovery continues but I'm feeling great and about 85% back to normal (from detox and my old self) -- thank you all for your support!
Avatar m tn s not painful, but very annoying. i had orthoscopic surgery on this knee about 7 years ago. any ideas as to what the popping could be?
Avatar m tn Shortly after the Chicago Marathon (didn't run in it, but chased friends throughout Chicago that did run), I started to have severe pain and some swelling in my left knee (previously twisted it in HS, approx. 8-9 years ago, never went to MD). I initially just assumed it was from running around so much since it usually did that after I would be on my feet for more than 8 hours (used to work retail). However, after 3-4 weeks the pain never went away and only got worse.
Avatar m tn ve been running with no knee pain. I run on the dirt/grass, where others run on the hard cement. Time after again they would get knee injuries. I quit running in races because I could feel the difference in the hard surface on my legs running verus the dirt/grass. If it was me, since I love running, I would stay off the hard cement. Our joints aren't made for that hard pounding.
Avatar f tn my knee feels very weak and stiff like it did before surgery. i have some swelling and sharp pains when i pivot on my knee. anyways, is there another surgery i could have to fix this problem or am i going to have to live with it?
Avatar m tn I had a locking torn meniscus in my right knee and my Doctor ordered surgery. I canceled the surgery and started therapy and the pain left. Then I had the same thing in my left knee. I went to another doctor and told me the same thing that I need surgery. I did therapy instead and it left this goes back many years and still ok. in fact, I do intensive running on a treadmill. I heard from many people that had surgery and are still suffering.
Avatar m tn When I had cartilage surgery on my knee, I was given exercises to start the day after surgery (yes, it hurt). I was expected to have full ROM in two weeks or less. Doing the exercises made all the difference. Were you given exercises, are you doing them, and are you seeing a physical therapist? Your answers should be yes, yes, yes.
Avatar f tn I had knee surgery (tibial tuberosity osteotomy with lateral release) 4 weeks ago. Was wanting to hear from other people who have gone through the same procedure. 4 weeks on I can bend my knee about 30 degrees and I am getting a bit more voluntary control of the muscles around my patella. My knee is still a bit swollen and I am still icing 2-3 times per day. I go back to see my surgeon in 2 weeks and would like to know if others have been referred to the physio sooner as this will be 5.
Avatar m tn And its not a rough surgery either. You may consider wearing a hinged knee brace, that may help you. Hope everything works out!!!
Avatar f tn Hi there my husband underwent partial knee replacement surgery 10yrs and then second knee 6years ago. his knees have been fine and he started gentle running again after many years of not being able to due to pain. 5years ago whilst jogging he experienced a near fatal anaphylactic shock and was later diagnosed with exercise induced anaphylaxis but only after eating wheat. All has been well for a number of years but then a couple of wks ago another problem occurred.
Avatar m tn I just had miniscus repair surgery 9 days ago and surgeon said my knee showed a whole lot of wear and tear as well. I think the surgery took and I was getting better until 2 days ago. From my knee down is swollen and red and painful. I went in to see my surgeon yesterday and he sent me directly to get an ultra sound which was negative for blood clots. I was more active on the day it starting swelling but my doc said to keep walking on it.
Avatar n tn I had a patella realignment procedure in April. My knee has healed great and is pain free. I'm back to doing all physical activity - except running. The knee feels excellent; however, I have alot of pain at the graft site on the tibia when I try to run. My three month follow up x-rays showed the bone was healing excellent, the screws were in place, and the grafted piece was in perfect alignment with my tibia. Is the bone pain normal, and is there anything I can do to speed the recovery?

Avatar n tn my doctor told me that my cartilage under my knee is damaged serverly. I was in a car accident where my knee hit the dash board. (60MPH impact). Is there any surgery for this repair? He suggested physical therapy. Ive read that physical therapy in alot of cases doesnt work. I live in NY Long Island. Does anyone know any specialist.
Avatar f tn Back when I was a kid, I hurt my right knee pretty hard. Went to the doctors, as the "swelling" wasn't receding, and was diagnosed with exostosis. Had surgery to remove the ostheocondroma at the age of 13, which resided on the inner part of right knee. Around 20, it started bothering me again.
Avatar n tn t like to be looped up with pain killers. My doctor suggested a knee replacement surgery....in 20 YEARS.
Avatar n tn prior to the surgery i had throbbing knee pain in posterior right knee. they tried cortisone shots - 2nd one helped but wore off quickly. even after TKR i STILL have this pain. Cold weather intensifies the overall pain. i still have on going knee pain in general and doc says takes sometmes ONE YEAR before see difference. When they did the TKR they did clean up some scar tissue (had 4 prior procedures before having TKR).
569793 tn?1216887381 Six months ago I had surgery to repair a small meniscul tear in my right knee. I rehabbed aggressively and proceeded to play approximately 6 weeks later. Things went well for the next two weeks and then I started to experience swelling around my knee. No pain, only swelling. After the season I took 5 weeks off like my doctor said, no activity whatsoever, only walking. I slowly started to ease my way back into playing, weight lifting to strengthen the muscles and running.
Avatar f tn Swimming and cycling are excellent methods of strengthening the muscles around the knee. Muscle strengthening is critical not only to recover muscle mass lost due to surgery, but also to improve stability of the joint as increased muscle strength reduces stress on the joint ligaments. Some degree of activity modification is required in recovery of patient’s with ACL reconstruction. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar f tn If the pain is on the top and outer thigh and causes numbness and pins and needle sensations running down to the knee, this is a trapped nerve in the groin area and is called meralgia parasthetica. If you are overweight, the answer is to lose weight because this puts pressure on the nerves. If find my condition worsens when I am walking or standing and only gets better when lying down.
Avatar m tn I actuallly had surgery for my meniscus on my right knee. When rehabilitating I did a lot of exercise on the bike. It keeps you active and doesn't add a lot of pressure. The weight loss alone will help dramatically with the pressure. As I have put weight on I can deffinately feel the difference especially after I run.
Avatar f tn Hello & welcome.....When one minute it's fine & the next it's not, it's usually a "Luxating Patella". What happenes is the knee cap pops out of place & they limp. At this stage it's painful...Then it pops back in and feels fine.....It's very common in toy breeds....Your girl must have had this trait passed from her parents which means the breeder was NOT doing his/her job! Patellas are graded from 1-5....
