Avatar f tn Back in 1973 & 1974, at age 19, I had both kneecaps removed due to Chondromalacia Patella. I wasn't given replacement parts. Now as a 62 female, I find myself walking with a cane and my left knee is extremely painful. I consulted with 2 orthopedic MDs. The first one wanted to do joint replacement surgery. The second one said I am not a candidate for joint replacement surgery since I don't have kneecaps. He prescribed diclofenac potassium for the pain.
Avatar f tn Problems with the patellofemoral articulation, the joint between the kneecap and the thigh, frequently present with pain going up and down stairs, and craqcking and popping in the knee. The cause is usually a combination of malalignment of the patellofemoral joint, quadriceps weakness or imbalance, and wear of the cartilage behind the kneecap.
Avatar m tn Hi Thanks for writing to the forum! “In normal situations, the knee is a smoothly operating mechanism, like a door hinge swinging open and shut," explains Edward J. Resnick, M.D., professor of orthopedic surgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. "But if you put a jam in the door or an object in the hinge, that smooth movement may be obstructed or frozen in position.

510679 tn?1265668267 I am 5 months out of having arthroscopic knee surgery for fixing a torn meniscus, while OS was in there he did a lateral release, said my kneecap was offtrack, and removed some bone fragments, cleaned arthritis from around the knee area. I am still having chronic pain and swelling, and cant do alot af activities like bending, squatting, climbing stairs or going down them. Walking is ook for a little while then pain.
457721 tn?1256640798 I had this surgery done following an injury on my right knee approximately 2 years ago. Apparently I have a congenital defect that causes my kneecaps to dislocate easily...so just stepping off a curb has caused dislocation. I wait tables and a week ago I dislocated my left knee. (our floors are uneven...and I just happened to step on it wrong) This is a WHOLE other issue because I am having to file workers comp...and my employer is being a real *** about the situation.
Avatar n tn weakness in the inside front of the knee joint (just inside from the kneecap), a feeling in the back of the knee like it had been snapped w/ a rubber band. My rheumotologist ordered an MRI, which showed that the cartilage was once again starting to "fray" (his words). A cortisone shot helped for about 6 - 8 mos before the pain started to come back again. My family dr did another injection, which didn't help as much.
Avatar n tn This condition causes fluid accumulation in the bursa just on top of the kneecap. Usually the fluid can be felt on top of the kneecap, rather than underneath the kneecap. Physical examination by doctor is necessary, to determine what fluid it is and depending upon that whether to remove the fluid or use antibiotics can be decided. All the best.
Avatar n tn when I do straight leg raises and contract my knee I sometimes encounter that sharp knife pain in knee. Also my knee locks up after doing quad sets and leg raises, Ive been told cause of the weak quadricep that is why? Anyone else out there with this?
Avatar f tn I have dislocated my left knee 6 times throughout my life, my right knee never gave me any problems until 2-3 years ago when the only way to stop the pain was to overextend my knee and force it to pop. Until it pops, I have awful pain that is on the inside on my knee and underneath my kneecap and sometimes I have shooting pain go from under my kneecap all the way up the center/middle of my thigh to my hip.
Avatar f tn Lesions appeared, I thought I somehow got glass in my knee but what I came across is a white bony Substance imbedded in my knee. What could that be?
1069378 tn?1255215132 Thank you very much for your response. It was most helpful to me. I do realize that both Synvisc and acupuncture will only give me pain relief and not solve the primary problem, but I could use that pain relief right now. It will perhaps enable me to be more active in areas that I have avoided because of the pain. Most of all it will give me time to decide what is the best course of action for resolving the problem. Again, I really appreciate your responding to my post.
Avatar f tn When I would kneel On my right knee it felt like there was glass under my kneecap. One day I decided to go ahead and Kneel hard on it and roll my kneecap around, enduring the pain. I envisioned that a Crystal had formed in my kneecap and it just needed to be crushed and then my body could absorb it. After that the pain vanished and never returned so my guess must’ve been correct.
Avatar m tn I went to four weeks of therapy and it has done nothing I am going to have to get surgery to remove the piece of knee cap. I was just wondering how long it takes to heal from this. How long will I be laid up? How many weeks of therapy am I going to have to go through after the surgery? Will I have to miss much school? Will I be able to run this fall??????
Avatar m tn ) Patella, which was an injury to the cartilage in the knee. Surgery took care of it mostly and after about 8-9 months after surgery I was almost as good as normal. Still have discomfort(on a small scale compared to before) from time to time, but nothing requiring even an ibuprofen to deal with. Hopefully, yours is as easily dealt with. My well wishes and respect to those still serving in the sandbox and beyond. Coming, for what its worth, from a Med Retired USN..You all do Us proud.
Avatar f tn So I have had this knee problem for 2 months. I exercise and had been doing "Insanity". I didn't have a specific moment I injured it. I jus noticed it getting painful over the course of a few days. I stopped exercise all together. I have some knee pain in a few different places around the kneecap and ITB and and uncomfortable "catching" sensation with every bend. I've went to 2 different doctors and had MRI and xray.
Avatar f tn i'm a dancer and I can't extend my knee anymore. I don't know what I did to mess it up. but even laying down i have to force myself to extend it. every time i get it extended it sends sharp pain from the lower part of my knee up to my hip bone. I'm only 20 so the thought of knee replacement scares me half to death. I can't start my career in dance until my knee is back to normal.. i've tried icing it, stretching it, biofreeze you name it i've probably tried it.
Avatar m tn m down to 14) i also have some tendinitis in my left knee. After four hours of sports my knee swells and stiffens and is no longer mobile until i sleep it off. In the past year i have discovered a big bump on top of my right knee so much so that when i bend both knees it is very noticeable protruding from the front of my knee.
Avatar m tn upon leaving they gave me a foam knee brace and sent me on my way. When I got home and tried on the knee brace I found out it was way to large (XXL) to the point of it being almost comical (I'm 130 lbs., maybe if I was a NFL running back it would fit.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Gross, I had a total knee replacement 1 year ago for severe arthritis. The pain is still there and I can't walk right, also my knee cap keeps going out and I fall or almost fall. My Ortho gave me a brace to wear and PT to go to, to streng. then muscles around the knee. It hasn't helped. My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? Is that a norm? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas why this is happening.
Avatar f tn s kinda like someone took a piece of fabric and sewed it in inside my knee. It covers most of my kneecap and that inner part of my knee. I can't kneel without sharp pain in my kneecap. I've tried to talk to my doctor about it but she keeps telling me she doesn't know what it is but that I should leave it. She also said it'll either go away on its own or I'll have it the rest of my life. I'd really like to find out what it is!!
Avatar f tn s at the point where it needs to be fixed. Recently saw the best knee guy in kaiser and getting surgery soon. He is taking out the plica, its gotten calcified and it pushed out my knee cap, so its not technically sublaxation because the plica is making the cap out of place. I appreciate your response and thank you for caring.
Avatar f tn I have been having a lot of knee discoloration that shows up unexpectedly. It appears as dark bruising across my whole kneecap. It does not cause a lot of pain, just a mild ache here and there. It is not a result of bumping the knee. It seems to happen if I have been kneeling, even in church. I never know when it will occur. Sometimes I get a strange mild cold sensation in the knee or occasionally, a quick sharp pain.
Avatar f tn s and is getting ready to have his next (last) one in 2 weeks. When they did the bone scan, they found a staple inside laying next to the knee cap. How would this have happened, since they only use staples on the outside AFTER surgery?
