Common Questions and Answers about Knee surgery dvt

Avatar f tn Indeed, a DVT needs to be ruled in/out. It can be "settle" anywhere...my mother's DVT was behind her knee (opposite side of kneecap). With mine, (it came on suddenly, about 2weeks after a major foot surgery-I was tested for blood clotting disorders, but no, absolutely no disorders found and neither for my mom...we just got "lucky"...together lol.) But my DVT went from groin to ankle....
Avatar f tn I had knee surgery about a month ago but I just noticed swelling in my knee, leg and foot what can i do to keep the swelling down?
Avatar m tn Hi guys. Im a 30 yr old male I've read that the risk of dvt per year for any given person after breaking down the numbers is 1 percent of less. I just had ankle surgery. Plates and screws put in. I've had no swelling or pain in my legs, no change of color. I'm not supposed to but I'm able to walk on my ankle now without a cast or anything after Today was my 2 and half week checkup.
Avatar f tn m a 20 y/o Male and recently had surgery to repair a tendon in my knee, at 3 weeks post surgery I had a scare and went into the ER for blood clots, luckily the ultrasound determined there were none. I was sent on my way and never explained if there were any further risks. Fast forward a week, and all I've been worried about, after reading online, has been PE's. I also have chronic GERD and some of the symptoms are similar to what they indicate PE can have....
Avatar f tn Heat radiating in the calf especially after a knee surgery could be due to clots in the deep veins of the calf or deep vein thrombosis. A duplex ultrasound or angiogram is required for diagnosis. Please consult a vascular specialist. This may need further treatment with medication and maybe even surgery. Please get this evaluated fast. Take care!
393942 tn?1315560152 About 3 weeks ago I had knee surgery. The Doc did 3 seperate things to my knee. He cleaned out more arthritis, repaired my minicus, and a lateral release. Since the surgery I have developed a hugh lump on the outside part of my knee and my whole leg swelled. My doc said that the only thing that will help all the swelling would be a compression stocking. The stocking helped from my knee down but did nothing from my knee up. The lump is still as big as ever.
5106112 tn?1363683091 Hello everyone, I have a TKR(total knee replacement) coming in the near future and would like to know what type of regimen you were put on pre/post op? I am still doing testing but would love to hear personal stories of what some of you have already experienced. (tkr or hip, I think its along the same line) Thanks, N.
Avatar n tn com/heart-disease/peripheral-artery-disease-of-the-legs To answer your basic question, people do manage DVT through a variety of means (medication like blood thinners, compression stockings, surgery if needed) but you must have that diagnosis first so work with your doctor to find out if this is truly the case. Let us know how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Had arthroscopic ACL surgery last week and within last two days developed excruciating pain in my operated leg calf. Went to ER today and was told I do have acute DVT in my calf. Doctor started me on blood thinners and percocet for pain. With a banged up knee and swollen and super painful calf I feel pain and anguish like never before. Any help, thoughts, ideas? I am open to anything and everything.
Avatar f tn Pains on inside of knee and under knee cap front, a slightly diff pain behind the knee and random sharp shooting pains on top of knee. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong? I can wiggle toes but not lift heel at all. Sorry for essay and thank you.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Dvt behind my left knee in October. Was put on Xarelto for 3 months, the day after I finished this course I was sent back into A & E, where I was diagnosed with Dvt again. I was told to stay on the Xarelto until my check up in 3 weeks. When my check up came, they admitted me into hospital and took me off Xarelto and put me on Innohep injections for another 3 months. I felt these were working great but in last week I can feel a twinge behind my knee again.
Avatar m tn It helped my knee pain but in turn caused some serious pain behind my knee. After the course, I rested for about a month and most of the pain went away. Over the past three months I have completed other courses with little to pain and these were pretty physically demanding courses. Now about three weeks ago, I was doing a difficult physical event for the military and after, behind my right knee started killing me.
Avatar f tn I had patella realignment surgery on 12/21, open knee rather than scope. Developed large blisters on knee as a result of alergic reaction to Benzoin about 10 days post op. Was withheld from therapy for an additional 2 weeks to allow blistering and suture site to heal. Began therapy about 3.
Avatar f tn In treating deep venous thrombosis (DVT), the main goal is to prevent a pulmonary embolism (PE). Other goals of treatment include preventing the clot from becoming larger, preventing new blood clots from forming, and preventing long-term complications. The treatment of DVT and PE are similar. In both cases, the primary approach is anticoagulation (blood thinners).
Avatar f tn The pain is concentrated behind my knee and in my upper thigh. I am terrified its a DVT, due to the fact that walking makes my leg feel so heavy. No swelling/redness as far as I can tell - but my anxiety about this is making it hard to see for sure. I am 22, healthy weight, non smoker, not on the pill. Would a DVT pain cause such tightness behind the knee, even if it comes and goes?
Avatar f tn Usually these individuals suffer from diabetes, high cholesterol or lipids or high blood pressure or heart disease or thyroid disorders or have varicose veins or have recently undergone a surgery. Being overweight is another cause for DVT and yes, this could cause problem in your case when you flew long hours. DVT is best diagnosed by duplex ultrasound (color dopplar) or by angiogram. And this should be arranged as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn Am 10 weeks out from surgery total knee replacement, rt. leg and was doing so well until last week. Pain started around the knee and a week later after doing the icing, ibuprofen and tylenol with codeine, my pain has escalated to a 9 out of 10 as of last night. It does not appear to be an infection as per my doctor, he just told me to do the above and call if things worsened. I called this morning and nobody can see me until Monday...Just called in stronger pain med.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was diagnosed a week and a half ago with a chronic DVT. I had an ultrasound. The technologist let me see it. I have good blood flo around it. My GP is treating it with coumadin. He thinks it was there in Feb. when I had an ultra sound. At that time, I was told there was no clot. The end of March, I had trauma to my ankle. The pain went away but the swelling didn't. My leg swelled again and didn't go down.
Avatar f tn I've been having an aching pain behind my knee for about a week now. I'm a 22 year old female that does take birth control, for about 7 years now. I'm mildly active but am often at a desk studying. I looked on the back of my knee and noticed there was a single vein that was about an inch long and very blue. It's not a spider vein but could possible be a forming varicose vein or could this dark blue vein be a sign of DVT?
Avatar m tn I noticed that there is some pain in the tendon that seems to run from the back of the knee down to my foot. Its been a little sore for about a week but now it seems to be getting worse. I noticed for the first time today that my calf is swollen and that my knee is too but not as bad as my calf. The pain gets worse if I fully extend my leg and point my toes up. Im assuming this is from some sort of an injury?
Avatar f tn Lately the area behind my knee and my thigh have been aching. No physical activity recently, just this nagging pain. I looked and there is a small dark blue vein on the back of my knee. You can't see any other veins just this one, it's not a spider vein, normal sized just very blue. Is this a sign of a DVT or possibly just a forming varicose vein?
Avatar m tn The wrap was one of those you just pull over the knee, not an actual length of cloth wrapped around the knee and at first I thought it was just the right fit, being a little tight. I wore the wrap for three days, while removing it once in a while to apply some more Hotemin and for showers. I kept it on that long out of fear that if it wasn't present, my knee might wobble too much and I'd injure myself again.
Avatar f tn Surgery itself can lead to DVT. If a person where so hypotensive as to not be able to get out of bed following surgery, the risk would probably be even higher.
Avatar f tn I had an ultrasound for leg pain to rule out dvt and when she pushed under my knee and a place in my thigh and calf I had a stinging sensation and my foot began to go numb. Also, when she pushed on my left groin it caused terrible pain which im still feeling the effects of a day later, along with nausea. What would cause this since im negative for dvt? Could my lymph nodes be causing that? A nerve?
Avatar m tn 9 Months ago I had a DVT, Which broke off and became a PE. The DVT was in my Left Knee, and after 3 months of using Warfarin and several Ultrasounds and VQ Scans Later I was diagnosed as Fine and no more need for the Warfarin.
20816659 tn?1521035997 Over the past week I have noticed something new and it is worring my because when I look up what it could be everything is point DVT. I have a dull charlie horse feeling in my right calf, the pain comes and goes as if it were a charlie horse, but is always in the same spot and there is a constant dull cramp feeling, I also have a slight color difference (below and to the left of my knee cap) and it is super tender to touch.
