Avatar n tn I had an arthroscopic surgery in 2008 on my knee and the cleaned arthritis out of it.The doctor told me it would get worse and i took it lightly.I just found out i have osteoarthritis in both knee but my right knee is worse.I can barely walk and i work 12 hour shifts.Am i looking at surgery again because the cartilages are wearing away my rheumatologist told me.
Avatar m tn Thank you Dr Gross. Ive already had 2 previous knee surgeries for torn miniscus, 1 on each knee, they were posterior tears I believe. Years ago.
Avatar n tn MRI of knee shows "irregularity and hyperense signal in root of lateral meniscus , popliteal fossa cysts, small bakers cyst, myxoid degeneration in lateral meniscus and posterior horn of medial meniscus." ( also mild chondromalacia patella??) Physician is reccommending arthroscopic surgery.... does this sound reasonable??
Avatar n tn I had arthroscopic knee surgery back in 1996. I had some swelling, and the bandage got too tight, if I recall. I was allowed to cut off the part that felt like it was cutting off my circulation when I asked the doctor's office. You should not feel at all hesitant to call your surgeon and tell him/her of your concern about swelling. Elevating and icing it might help, but your surgeon should be kept apprised of your situation and be able to best advise you.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have orthoscopic knee surgery on my right knee to correct problems I am having related to osteoarthritis. Does this type of surgery prevent osteoarthritis from returning? Is this surgery safe? What is recovery like after surgery? Any information anyone has regarding this topic will be greatly appreciated.
1821620 tn?1317256092 Hey. I went to my orthopedic and I am having an arthroscopic knee surgery in December. I was wondering... will I have to wear a knee mobilizer after surgery? Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee almost 3 months ago. The medial and lateral meniscus were repaired along with scraping under patella for some arthritis. The medial was much more damaged than the lateral. Surgery seemed to go well. No pain at all. After some weeks with therapy the knee still feels unstable laterally. Front to back movement was very good, Pain developed on medial side of knee and the patella tendon when walking.
Avatar f tn Arthroscopic surgery will probably give you the most predictable result. Arthroscopic surgery can be performed without antibiotics at the discretion of your treating surgeon. If surgery is not an option, I recently saw a brace, known as the Unloader Lite, designed to take a small amount of stress off the medial compartment, and ease the symptoms of a torn meniscus. At present, I have no real experience with this brace. Remember, it is by no means a cure, it simply controls the symptoms.
Avatar n tn I have a question...I fell from a couple of a stairs and tore my lateral meniscus. The orthopedic told me that I have to get surgery because that portion of the tear is not healed. Also he mentioned that the cartilage in my knee is calcifying. So I want to know is the calclifying of my cartilage in my knee a long term risk for my knee?..And if I don't want to do surgery to take out the torn pieces..is it possible that my knee can still heal on its own?
Avatar n tn For those that remain symptomatic, I perform arthroscopic surgery. At surgery, the calcified menisci are debrided (cleaned up), the inflammed synovium is removed, and the knee is "washed out". Patients do well after arthroscopic treatment and are able to return to full activity quite quickly. Good Luck!!
Avatar n tn No! As we grow older many peoples cartilage becomes thin. When this happens our bones rub against eachother and becomes very painful. If this happens you must go to your doctor and consult it to him or her A.S.A.P!!! And they will fix it surgically.
Avatar f tn I am a 14 year old female and had arthroscopic surgery with microfracture to repair torn articular cartilage about 8 months ago. after physical therapy and lots of rest, i was cleared to play lacrosse again. My knee was feeling alot better and stronger. i still wear a brace while i play to try to prevent any further injury. however, i'm afraid its injured again.
510679 tn?1265668267 I am 5 months out of having arthroscopic knee surgery for fixing a torn meniscus, while OS was in there he did a lateral release, said my kneecap was offtrack, and removed some bone fragments, cleaned arthritis from around the knee area. I am still having chronic pain and swelling, and cant do alot af activities like bending, squatting, climbing stairs or going down them. Walking is ook for a little while then pain.
Avatar f tn Meniscus repair is recommended for tears that occur in the vascular region (red zone or red-white zone), are longer than 1 cm, involve greater than 50% of meniscal thickness, and are unstable to arthroscopic probing. A stable knee is important for successful meniscus repair and healing. Thus, associated ligamentous injuries must be addressed. The most commonly associated ligamentous disruption is complete tear of the ACL, which must be reconstructed to prevent recurrent meniscal tears.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Gross, I had a total knee replacement 1 year ago for severe arthritis. The pain is still there and I can't walk right, also my knee cap keeps going out and I fall or almost fall. My Ortho gave me a brace to wear and PT to go to, to streng. then muscles around the knee. It hasn't helped. My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? Is that a norm? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas why this is happening.
Avatar m tn Hello Dear, Although you have not specified the exact type of knee surgery you underwent. It seems that most likely it has been Knee replacement surgery [also known as total knee arthroplasty]. It might be due to loosening of the cement where the implants meet the bone or due to the wear of the polyethylene-bearing surface of a metal-backed tibial platform or a metal-backed patellar componentis a well recognized complication.
Avatar n tn Since the pain is worsening and I now have severe BURNING, stabbing pains like someone has stabbed me with a hot poker (which actually make me cry out) I will more than likely opt for the arthroscopic surgery, which was recommended by the orthopaedic physician I did see....I was afraid because I don't come out of anesthesia all that quickly and work issues, but it would seem I have no choice at this point.....THANK YOU AGAIN....!!!
Avatar f tn i'm about 4 1/2 months post-op, i had arthroscopic surgery with microfracture to repair torn cartilage on my medial femoral condyle. A few weeks ago i jumped knees first onto a sled and have been having problems since. i am experiencing alot of stiffness and a little swelling, there is also something the feels like it is moving when i extend my knee. should i be worried about another injury?
Avatar f tn Sir I have grade 3 injury of ligaments in my right knee.acl 80% injured and MCL grade 3 injured.for conservative treatment, one Dr has advised physiotherapy-IFT+U.S. and ice packs.another Dr has advised not to do physiotherapy and treatment with hot water on knee.I am very confused. Please help me sir, whose advise to follow.
Avatar m tn You should have arthroscopic surgery to take care of the meniscal tear, at the very least! Best of luck!
452066 tn?1400626877 At what point does an orthopedic surgeon come to a conclusion that a partial knee replacement is the only option? I had surgery for a torn meniscus on my left knee over a year and a half ago. Since then, the knee feels worse and is progressively getting worse. I have been on steroids, had injections, take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, went through PT...and even continue to exercise the knee now.
Avatar m tn s not painful, but very annoying. i had orthoscopic surgery on this knee about 7 years ago. any ideas as to what the popping could be?
Avatar m tn I had arthroscopic surgery 6 months ago. For as the doctor described in his surgical notes. A very significant chondral defect on my medial femoral condyle. I had a 2nd doctor`s opinion and followup MRI 4 months later. Which says I have the following problems. Chondromalacia of the patellofemoral compartment without evidence of a full thickness articular cartilage defect. A small Baker`s cyst, with small joint effusion.
