Avatar f tn I am 43 years old. I had knee surgery for a torn meniscus in 2003. Last year on Thanksgiving Day I stepped off my porch and hurt my knee again. After having a mri my dr said he couldnt see anything but the pain kept getting worse and decided to scope my knee. He discovered that I had no cartlige and it was completely eaten up with arthritis among other things. I was told I needed a knee replacement but didnt want to do it at my age.

Avatar f tn I keep hearing from people that if I was to get surgery on something that in the future, that area I received surgery on would become worse. Is this true?

Avatar n tn I'm a 57 y/o female, weight is 225. I had a pre-op ekg for minor surgery on my knee. The EKG came back as abnormal, possible inferior wall infarct, age-untermined. Surgery has been cancelled because of this report. I have a history of high blood pressure which is normally in control with my medications. I don't recall ever having any type of serious chest pain in the past.
Avatar m tn Doc suggested me to go through the surgery to cut the tear. My knee pain is not so severe. I am able to walk with no issues but some uncomfort in the knee sometimes. My worry is Do I really need to go through surgery given my situation. Please please advice. I really appreciate your guidance here. Thank you.
647391 tn?1275016633 This is because of damage to the knee and missing cartilage. What is your thoughts as to someone my age having knee replacement surgery. Also, what is the quickest recovery you have seen for someone with knee replacement surgery?
Avatar m tn any one out there w similar circumstance, and are you recovering.. did you recover completely from such a surgery/injury?
Avatar f tn My son hurt his knee in football last Friday night. His MRI shows a MCL tear, partial ACL tear, and a LMT (meniscus tear - 3mm). He'll attend physical therapy in the next week or so. The doctor mentioned that it's not necessary to do surgery right away. Everyone that I talk to encourages me to have him do the surgery due to his age - (18 yrs old - 6'1" - 220 lbs). I want to do what's best for him. Should I get another opinion?
Avatar m tn Thanks doctor for your reply, my age is 40 and right now i can not make my leg straight and lock the knee it stays in bend position. i am more eager to know my knee will be normal after surgery?
452066 tn?1400626877 At what point does an orthopedic surgeon come to a conclusion that a partial knee replacement is the only option? I had surgery for a torn meniscus on my left knee over a year and a half ago. Since then, the knee feels worse and is progressively getting worse. I have been on steroids, had injections, take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, went through PT...and even continue to exercise the knee now.
Avatar f tn I know they do bilateral knee replaements, but is it possible to have my left knee redone and my left hip replaced at the same time. I just turned 50 in June so age is not a problem. I do have a history of a-fib and a-flutter but no other heart/lung problems.
Avatar n tn I had an arthroscopic surgery in 2008 on my knee and the cleaned arthritis out of it.The doctor told me it would get worse and i took it lightly.I just found out i have osteoarthritis in both knee but my right knee is worse.I can barely walk and i work 12 hour shifts.Am i looking at surgery again because the cartilages are wearing away my rheumatologist told me.
Avatar m tn After knee replacement surgery the most important thing is the patient should not fall. the 3 falls she had; might be she injured something? May be Quadriceps. Patella is a bone inside the tendon of Quadriceps and she has to be diagnosed with the reason of the failure of surgery she had for knee replacement an year ago. She has to be properly diagnosed of the problem, all parameters explained to your mom before she undergoes repair. Take care!
Avatar f tn Thank you, DrKaul. When I go this Friday, to the PRE-surgery exam/q&a time, I will be asking specifically: "prognosis"....& several other questions. I "pray" that I will be able to get back to my regular activities. I am NOT by any means athletic, but I have enjoyed long walks & some cardio on bicycle & eliptical. ....I really need to be able to get back in shape a month (or whenever) AFTER the surgery, at the time the surgeon indicates.
Avatar m tn You need to give more detailed symptoms and complaints. Also, her age is a very significant factor in previous surgery outcome, future surgery relevance and amount of any potential improvement.
1092452 tn?1257350509 I had a knee replacement in June 09, I spent 4weeks in a rehab. center..physical therapy 6 days a week. Right after surgery I had ' foot drop ' So I had to deal with that + my knee...It's been 5 months.. well my knee still hurts so much it wake's me up at night, Is this normal ? Any one have this problem ? Any suggestion ? I really need help. Please I can't stand it much longer..
4966610 tn?1362054308 I have a toy/mini poodle named Shadow who is over 12 years old. He weighs 12.5 lbs. He has several serious medical issues including a luxating patella (trick knee) on his right rear leg. Because of his age, and his medical condition, I don't want to chance surgery to repair this as there is more of a risk of fatality from surgery and or anesthesia as he gets older. Unless there is some dire need for surgery, I am looking for a non surgical solution for this problem.
Avatar n tn He suspected there was more bleeding around the knee due to me taking ibuprofen up to a day before surgery (He failed to mention the ibuprofen during my checkup before surgery) Have been elevating, alternating cold and moist heat, taking aspirin daily. Have also been doing daily leg raises (400) and isometrics and can now get around without crutch, but am limping because my knee cannot flex.
Avatar f tn Darling, you are not too young for this surgery, especially if you're active. I'm 19 years old and had the same surgery done in my left knee for the same reasons! I also had a bone spur removed from my shoulder and the sack around the joint tightened. It isn't that big of a deal, but the healing does take some time. I had the surgery on my knee when I was 16 and although my knee isn't quite what it was; it is a lot better than before the surgery.
Avatar f tn Odds are, it will end in surgery anyway. I'm sure your Dr. is hesitant due to her age. I'd recommend seeking a 2nd opinion with a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Best of luck!
Avatar m tn you have to provide more detail info such as your age, when did pain start and which area of the knee? did you have prior injury to this knee? how long have you had this pain. does your knee lockup or buckle? when does this, occur?only when playing soccor or w/other times as well?
Avatar f tn Had surgery to remove the ostheocondroma at the age of 13, which resided on the inner part of right knee. Around 20, it started bothering me again. Couldn't sit or stand in the same position for long, walking long distances and running meant I had to wear something around my knee and, after sitting at the office for too long, when getting up, I just couldn't extent my leg without a bit of force, let's say.
Avatar m tn I had a bentall surgery (Open heart surgery) involving valve replacement and conduit graft. My knees were always fine bit after the surgery I am having pain in both knees.
Avatar n tn I appreciate your time, however, you failed to address my questions. I'm quite aware of 2nd opinions. What I need are explanations of whether my symptoms are consistent with the diagnosis. In other words, why would a knee be unstable from a slight tear? Why would it swell when there is no blood in that area? I've had a 2nd opinion and frankly no one seems to be willing to explain these things to me. They just say "yes, we'll do surgery".
Avatar m tn Many thanks for your reply . I now understand that this knee replacement seems to be the only answer to my problem and will wait for the surgeon to give me a date for surgery.
