Avatar n tn I had a total knee replacement 14 months ago. The surgeon severed my popliteal artery, destoying one inch. Vascular surgeon make emergency repair, but scar tissue formed, completely blocking repair. I had a successful artery bypass with a harvested vein 9 months ago. I still have swelling, pain and numbness from knee to toes. I am on maxzide, wear comp. stocking, and exercise according to PT instruction. Will the swelling ever go away? What can I do?
Avatar f tn Its been almost 3 years since I had a total knee replacement. I left the hospital with only a 65 flex and in alot of pain. For awhile in physcial therapy I could get more flex but not without extreme pain. Today I suffer from severe chronic pain and still can only flex 65. I do not know what went wrong but right after surgery a large flex machine was dropped right on the knee while I lay in a hospital bed unable to move.
Avatar f tn I am feeling fine. How are you? And who are you? I am 54. My name is Kendra. I do not experience any grinding, locking, catching or giving way of the knee. There are no positions that make my knee uncomfortable other then putting my weight on it while kneeling. It feels totally normal otherwise. The pain is as if I knelt on a sharp rock or tack or even as if my bone is splintered. It began a couple of weeks ago while kneeling.
Avatar f tn About a month and a half ago I had ACL replacement surgery for a basketball injury. Yesterday I played in a basketball game. It was just a pick up game and I didn't run or anything. Just kinda hobbled and hopped on my good leg. I'm left handed so I go off my right leg which is my good one. However today my left knee is pretty sore and weak.
Avatar m tn I recently had knee surgery to repair my ACL in my left knee (for the 2nd time). The Doctor too the Petella graft from my right knee. The surgery was done in March 07. Shortly after the surgery during my Physical Therapy I started having pain in my right knee. The Doctor went back in on July 5th 07 to try and find a Neuroma. The Doctor said after the surgery that she didn't find anything, but I still had very sharp pains shooting through my knee.
Avatar n tn Hello; for the past few months I have been experiencing a pain in my knee, it is just to the outside of the patella. It is a very sharp pain, like an electrical shock. It happens totally at random. It can happen when I am walking, sitting, sleeping, etc. When the pain is not occurring, my knee feels completely normal. When it happens, it usually happens every few seconds or minutes, then stops for several hours. I am not aware of any injury or unusual stress to that area.
Avatar m tn basically is there anything i can do to improve it without surgery, is there any way to get it back to 100 percent (with or without surgery) thanks. also i was told arthoscopic surgery would not be sufficient, open knee surgery would have to be used.
Avatar n tn I can have it removed but due to other cervical problems from a surgery done about 30 years ago, my vertebrea in my neck are calapasing forward. The only solution is for the plate to be removed and rods inserted front and back of the entire length of my neck. The Doctors (I have had consultations with 3 different specialists) say they cannot give my any idea if it would even work or what type of results I might have. The worse results are what are scareing me from going through with it.
Avatar n tn I have leg pain in my right leg in my thig and around my knee. Can hardly lift it. I didn't have this pain before surgery. It seems as if you get a new pain after the surgery. My doc says that my surgery was a success and that I should have little to no restrictions. I don't know what planet he just came from. I still hurt. I am 31 yrs old, no kids, want them though. It seems as if my life will never be the same prior to the car accident 3/14/06.
10947 tn?1281407852 I was told eventually I would require replacement of both knees. However, due to pain, movement of the knee that causes startling pain, an unsteady gait and irritation of the degenerative disease in my lumbar spine probably a result walking to favor that knee the doctor has recommended arthroscopic surgery to remove th loose cartilage, scraping of the arthritis and a lateral ligament release which will require a surgical incision all of which will require an 8 week recovery perion.
Avatar f tn it'll just get you there more quickly and if you aren't completely dependent on the replacement hormones now, you will be after surgery. Swelling/inflammation can cause the feeling of choking or tightness you're having. You can talk to your doctor, but taking 200 mcg of selenium/daily can help ease it. Selenium can also help with the conversion of FT4 to FT3. Ibuprophen can also help ease the swelling/inflammation, if you can take that - again, talk to your doctor.
168348 tn?1379360675 Well, I am calling today to schedule an appt with my reg Dr who was also there assisting in my surgery. I need to get some stuff checked out and have some questions for him too. I still don't get bloodwork done for a couple more weeks... anxious to see where I am at bc I am starting to feel a bit tired and dragging, but not sure if it is still recovery from surgery or meds not on the right levels.
900662 tn?1469393905 I had my own sob fest after an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon last week. He delayed my return to work from knee surgery for an additional three weeks (not to mention I lost track of my car keys between the time I unlocked the door and the time I was ready to place the key in the ignition- grrrrr). I was just missing the good-old-days when things used to come so much easier :( You'll do fine as long as you follow all the therapy instructions to the letter. Really, you will.
192055 tn?1263559137 My doctor said he didn't recommend surgery since I was so young. When I was 16 or so, I went back to the doctor since it didn't heal. The doctor said that it was odd that it didn't heal but again, didn't recommend surgery. When I was 18, I got my collarbone checked out again to make sure I was ok to join the Army. Everything was fine. Again, he said he wouldn't recommend surgery since it is a pretty intricate surgery....Doc said to come back if I had any pain.
Avatar f tn I am really sorry to hear that you are in so much of pain after back surgery. Back surgery can result in a lot of pain which is often referred to as Failed back surgery syndrome. Technically speaking, if the pain persists even after 3 months of surgery, the surgery is considered to be a failure. It is pertinent that you undergo a CT scan to find out the exact cause of pain.
1704915 tn?1357604854 left knee X 4 (with partial knee replacement), lumbar surgery (w/ hardware) times 2, cervical spine surgery times 2 (three disc removed w/ 4 level fusion), left shoulder repairs w/ mumford resuction times 2, and a right shoulder rebuild. Being a former athlete has it's price!!! And I still believe in working hard & playing hard. And even today I have rotator cuff tears in both shoulders (again) and the partial left knee (done 11 years) giving out... and the doc says get off pain meds.
93210 tn?1287457826 Thanks for the additional info doc. It's people like Tiffc that swoops into fact finding forums like this one and vomits old, inaccurate information. I believe (I'm assuming again and I admit it) this person has little knowledge of anything medical because if he or she knew anything medical, he/she would know that MOST things medical evolve and/or change, not necessarily for the better sometimes, over short periods of time.

98474 tn?1240108874 Am home from the hospital day surgery and my knee is feeling so much better even with the surgery pain. He cleaned it up and shaved off the torm meniscul. I have grade three arthritis in the knee joint and will eventually need replacement but am hoping this buys me at least a couple of years but that might be wishful thinking. This surgery is a peace of cake next to my two hip replacements. No big deal! Talked to the same anethesiologist as I had for my hip surgery last Aug.
Avatar f tn When I compare that surgery to having my CSection and Hysterectomy, the knee replacement was by far the worst. Having a baby naturally is mild to me in comparison although I remember my daughter's face of agonizing pain taking over her body. I had my first daughter naturally but CSection with the one whom I'm speaking of. I was with her for the birth of her son. Surgery is always a scary option no matter what surgery but the knee surgery did it for me.
483733 tn?1326802046 Felt awful lying to my current employer to get the time off but on the other hand they haven't followed through with their promises and that is why I am leaving. Feels so good to be wanted and to get back into the game. I'm not going to settle any more. Woo Hoo! 4) As a result of all of the above, things at home are going very well. My husband is starting to deal with some of his problems and I am so glad that together we are putting together a plan for our future.
Avatar m tn org/wiki/Knee_replacement) and found a loca doc in Scottsdale (he has excellent reviews) Dr. Kozinn knee replacement but am still looking for more information about the actual surgery. What does it entail exactly? Any help is appreciated.
Avatar f tn The 3rd day (once she could feel the leg again) she was outside walking with her crutches putting a little weight on the leg and said that her knee hadn't felt that good for a long time. Her surgery was 7 weeks ago and she had a softball tournament over the weekend and pitched a great game. So I'd just like to say that our experience with a lateral release has been such an answer to prayer and she had made the comment that she would have that surgery any time over her tonsillectomy!!!!
Avatar n tn This was the last resort for me before surgery. I wanted to try it and left knee is better than the right knee but with this new med I may be ok for a while. I am very excited about the injections and the gel as well.
1981713 tn?1389863765 but this surgery is a scope compared to knee replacement...so maybe i won't need anything... Are you in the same Situation? Its feels.like your between two crushing rocks when thinking about narcotics in the long run....
Avatar f tn The arthritis part is what was killing me. I guess I have zero cartilage in my right knee and could possibly need a knee replacement. I did a series of injections and they did nothing for the pain. I can't keel, squat, run or doing anything like I used to and I am only 30 years old with two small children. I was on Hydros for a few months before and after surgery. I was pretty bummed that I had to "break" my clean time, but I guess I had no choice.
700223 tn?1318169294 ACL tear • Knee injury: Patellofemoral Syndrome • Knee injury: meniscus (cartilage) tear • Tennis elbow: lateral epicondylitis • Shoulder injury: Rotator cuff tear • Shoulder injury: AC separation • Shoulder injury: Dislocation 5. Does a Sports Medicine Orthopedist only treat injuries? While a great deal of a sports medicine specialist’s time is spent treating injuries in athletes and non-athletes alike, much of the time is also spent on other responsibilities.
Avatar f tn I was high. Sometimes i jade knee surgery and she had hip surgery. It was a trying year. The moral of my story is she keeps me clean. Watching and knowing her pain is nothing compared to mine..her hip knee now back is curving and shounder is loosing range. Even when i was @#%ed up she wanted momma..we've had so many conversations about pills during my walk to sobriety..so many talks about me being high and pain...god bless her. So.we or me..
1433056 tn?1283406506 I remember the pain from the hysto and have had several surgeries including a knee replacement and am just tired of all the pain. I weigh 345 pounds so mobility is already a huge issue. A few months ago I had gained 15 pounds in a month and my regular physician just assumed I ate it that high. I didn't think so. Anyway, I just want to get rid of this beast, but the big CA is constantly on my mind.
Avatar f tn Sometimes surgeries looked like she was doing well so i had a hystorectomy i put off only to wind up taking care of her thru another surgery. Also had my knee scope and after i got my stitches out she had another emergency surgery. Her hip would just pop out. No warning what so ever. Those were some hard times. Well i finally broke down and had a knee replacement may 19 2011. I wanted the pain to.stop in my knees. I had some complications and fought really hard thru this one.
