647391 tn?1275016633 What is your thoughts as to someone my age having knee replacement surgery. Also, what is the quickest recovery you have seen for someone with knee replacement surgery?
Avatar f tn I have had arthroscopic surgery on both knees, about 15 years apart, the last was in '08. Now I'm suffering more pain than ever before. My ortho. says the only thing left to do is knee replacement for both knees. I've tried cortisone shots, no help, and I can't think of the name of the other shots right now but there are (2) in succession. Although there might have been a very slight reduction in pain, it only lasted a week or two. I've talked with the ortho.
Avatar n tn what is the average length of rehab therapy after total knee replacement? This discussion is related to On-going Pain after Knee replacement surgery.
Avatar m tn My range of motion is only 80 and it is 8 weeks since my knee replacement. Been in a rehab hospital, home physical therapy and now outpatient physical therapy 3 times a week. I have pain and stiffness every day. Taking Advill and Tylenol since my prescripton finished and doctor won't renew it. Every day I do my exercises and spend time on a recumbent bike. Anyone have this problem?
Avatar n tn I had a knee replacement 5 weeks ago. I am getting around and doing the rehab very well. However, I still have a fair amount of pain and I am taking a nonnarcotic pain reliever and celebrex. At night, I go to sleep for an hour or two and then I wake up with knee pain and can't get comfortable or back to sleep. What can I do to stop this problem, my orthopedist is at a loss.
Avatar f tn Ok, after reading all the negative comments about knee replacement on this site, I have just about decided not to have the surgery done. Is there anyone out there that has had success in this and would like to share? I need some positive feedback, please.
Avatar m tn On September 7/12 I received a total knee replacement of my left knee. I suffer from severe osteoarthrits and am only 59 years of age. I previously had shoulder replacements in 2008 and 2010 respectively. My right knee is scheduled for replacement on March 25th of this year. My initial recovery from the left knee replacement was excellent. I was walking without a cane within 7 days, and no longer needed any medication stronger than ibupuprofen.
Avatar m tn A few weeks on crutches, a few weeks doing exercises in rehab, and using a knee support, and the knee was pretty good. By September 2023, when we went on vacation, things were pretty good. On vacation, more walking, and developed some knee pain in my LEFT knee. But again, nothing that kept me from doing things (used ice, Voltaren, acetaminophen).
Avatar n tn I'm a 66 yr old female, normal weight. Had a total knee replacement six months ago because of a torn ACL, torn meniscus and arthritic knee. The pain is now worse than before I had the replacement surgery. My knee is always swollen, stiff and hot to touch since surgery. I have taken Celebrex that helped the pain but had to stop because my kidney function BU/CU ratio is now elevated. I cannot take other NSAID's because they elevate my blood pressure.
Avatar m tn on investigating they found that my femor and knee cap was in a bad way and worn and in time i will need a knee cap replacement, however thankfully not at the present time. Iam a fit person who teaches amrtial arts. My problem is that it has been weeks since my operation but the knee is still badly swollen and sore and i am still struggling to straighten it and bend it behonf 40 degrees..
Avatar f tn It has been two years since I have had a total left knee replacement . I still have stiffness in my knee and I can not bend it more than a 90 degree angle. I swim, walk, take yoga classes & constantly try to stretch it -- but nothing happens. Is there anything I can do for this ?
Avatar m tn I researches this and have read many posts that actually support what he said . What is the difference between a routine knee replacement and one where 2/3 of the knee cap is gone???? Maybe my new doc will better explain this but am waiting until my next PCP visit to request a different specialist .
Avatar m tn My mother had a knee repacement a year ago. Even after rehab she complained the knee felt weak, like it was going to give out. She has fallen three times. She recently had a replacement on the other knee and noticed the difference in recovery right away that there seemed to be a weakness still in the knee she had done a year ago.
Avatar f tn My husband had knee replacement surgery 7 weeks ago. Now he is suffering with swelling of the calf, ankle and foot on the same leg as the replacement. He is exercising, walking, biking on stationery bike and doing the exercises that PT told him to do. He is able to bend 126 degrees and walks very well without any aid. He is doing stairs as well. He ices it and elevates the leg periodically throughout the day. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? It is extremely frustrating.
446097 tn?1223694666 I have 3 herniated discs in my back/neck and am so tired of hurting. I also realize that i dont exercise for rehab like I am suppose to because I take too many pills and am too tired. what is the right balance? it is SO FRIGGIN hard to figure out what is the right thing to do every day. How not to hurt so much I cant do rehab, how to not over-medicate so I am too tired to do my exercises. I just want to feel good again physically so i can feel good mentally. How do you balance it all????

Avatar n tn s very important he do his homework exercises as prescribed by his therapist. I skated out of rehab after surgery on my left knee years ago, and have paid for it all these years. It's full of scar tissue and noticeably weaker than the other knee. Totally my own fault, but what did I, as an ignorant high school kid know? :-) I'd say your son is probably on the bench for the rest of the season.
405614 tn?1329144114 After an injury in 11/1990, three arthroscopies over the years, last one 07/10/2006, I had (R) knee joint replacement surgery, on 08/05/2013, at IU Health Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis, IN, by Dr. J. Andrew Parr & team. Was given a spinal & put under. Had xrays 3 months out of surgery & got images on disc.
Avatar f tn Once you are able to walk short distances unassisted, it is important to regain the strength in your leg muscles with resistance exercises. You can do the early rehab exercises with light ankle weights or resistance bands, and you can ride a stationary bike at varying degrees of resistance to strengthen your muscles and work on your range of motion at the same time. Consider taking yoga or tai chi classes.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had a total knee fusion before having knee replacement. I am a 31 year old female who had a total knee fusion. After a year and half of not having full use of my leg and severe hip pain due to all my weight shifting on one side because I can not bend my leg it has now caused severe pain in my hip and both legs and lower back.

Avatar f tn I heard from a lady at work that when you get a staph infection in a knee replacement, or any replaced joint, that you will always have staph dorment in it, and an injury or even stress can cause it to flair up again...does anyone know if this is true? I can't seem to get a straight answer from my doctor - I don't know why.
