Avatar m tn My mother had Knee Replacement Surgery in one knee a little over two years ago, due to osteoarthritis. However, she does still have considerable amount of pain. She "bandages" her knees up every morning. She did all of the required exercises after the surgery (perhaps too much). Her range of motion is OK, but less than it was before surgery. She was able to sit cross-legged before the surgery for a little while, but cannot now.
Avatar m tn My range of motion is only 80 and it is 8 weeks since my knee replacement. Been in a rehab hospital, home physical therapy and now outpatient physical therapy 3 times a week. I have pain and stiffness every day. Taking Advill and Tylenol since my prescripton finished and doctor won't renew it. Every day I do my exercises and spend time on a recumbent bike. Anyone have this problem?
159619 tn?1707018272 My insurance company has recommended that he try repairing the meniscus issues first and if that fails they will authorize the knee replacement. I am a 50 year old male and the insurance company would prefer to put off the knee replacement for at least 5 years to keep from doing it twice. I have a couple of questions, first is the insurance company being reasonable? My Orthopedic reluctantly agrees with them.
614557 tn?1243708351 t like to do a total knee replacement until you are in your 50s. Reason being that currently a new knee has a lifespan of about 15 years (if you are lucky), They hope that if they can make you wait that you will be less active, and probably won't live long enough to require a second or third go around on the surgery, thus costing them a bunch more money. Also the second synthetic knee that they put in tends to be more problematic than the first one..
Avatar n tn My mom recently had knee replacement on 6/8/19. (She had both hip replacement in 2010 previously)Can she have MR and tomography? She started having severe hip(both) aches after her right knee surgery. Especially when she moves or walks, she says her both bottoms(where she sits), sometimes hips are hurting so much. Does she need to have MRI or tomography and can she use MRI or tomography with her replacements?

Avatar n tn However, when I showed my right knee last month this year I was told that I need full knee replacement. The surgeon recommended Otisknee replacement procedure. Is it possible that my right knee can deteriorate in onr year to have full replacemnt as opposed to partial. What are the reports on Otisknee replacement procedure. What are the pros & cons of partial replacement versus full replacement.
Avatar n tn This is not necessarily a bad thing. Knee replacement is not rocketship science and the rep. usually knows everything about the knee he sells. Cutting to the chase, have the surgery done by an orthopedic surgeon that does a lot of them, find out the specific model of knee being considered, and ask how many procedures the surgeon has done with that manufacturer's model.
Avatar f tn Ok, after reading all the negative comments about knee replacement on this site, I have just about decided not to have the surgery done. Is there anyone out there that has had success in this and would like to share? I need some positive feedback, please.
Avatar f tn I had a knee replacement 5 months ago and I am allergic to nickel. Now this knee needs to be taken out and replaced! Is the Oxinium knee nickel free? I am very sick from this and need help quick! This discussion is related to On-going Pain after Knee replacement surgery.
Avatar f tn I had been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in the left knee and beginning in the right knee four years ago. I was told that I was bone on bone in the left knee. Since I was only 50 years old the doctor said that I was too young for surgery. Four years later, 1 less thyroid, additional weight, I have been told I am too fat and I need to get my BMI down before they would consider.
Avatar f tn 5 months ago I had bilateral knee replacement, I am having sharp pain behind my right knee. This started about one month back. It usually only happens when i am laying down, but now is happenning when I am sitting. The pain is very sharp wakes me up.Other than this pain I am doing great, but i just want to know if this is just part of the healing process or is there a problem?
Avatar m tn I HAD KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY 9 WEEKS AGO. THE PAIN IS SO INTENSE. THE ONLY TIME IT SEEMS NOT TO HURT IS IF I CAN SLEEP. I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO TAKE ANY PILLS ALL THE TIME FOR PAIN. I JUST AM BESIDE MYSELF. I ASKED THE DR AT MY POST OP AND HE STATES THIS IS NORMAL.. MY KNEE ALSO CLICKS SOMETIMES. HE STATES THIS IS NORMAL TOO. PLEASE HELP. I NEED SOME ADVICE.
Avatar n tn I had a total knee replacement done over 14 weeks ago and still have quite a bit discomfort. My knee down to my ankle will swell and I get a burning sensation that will last for hours. I have been to the doctors several times and i am being told that this is normal and could last up to 1 year. I had the other knee replaced and didn't have anywhere near the pain I am having with this knee.
16888441 tn?1452155657 s usually a good practice to consult with at least 2-3 top doctors before undergoing a knee replacement surgery. Knee replacement can be an excellent option in many cases, but there are also some contra-indications where a knee replacement should not be the first choice. For instance, if a person is young and below 50 years of age, knee replacement can be delayed because the life of implants typically lasts between 15-20 years. Is the person too over-weight?
Avatar m tn The anatomy of knee or knee joint configuration would have changed after the knee fusion surgery to do any sort of surgery after that. Yes I think an orthopedic surgeon experienced in knee replacement after knee fusion could possibly with difficulty could have done it. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar f tn m only 46) and having some other health issues (lupus, fibromyalgia, asthma), he would strongly suggest going with a total knee FUSION as opposed to a total knee REPLACEMENT. He said that because I am relatively young (although I don't feel young most days) and have the autimmune problems, there is an increased chance that a knee replacement would not last very long for me and would have to be done at least one more time, if not several times.
647391 tn?1275016633 What is your thoughts as to someone my age having knee replacement surgery. Also, what is the quickest recovery you have seen for someone with knee replacement surgery?
Avatar f tn Blood clots are a common concern in a knee replacement, are they also a concern in a knee manipulation?
452066 tn?1400626877 At what point does an orthopedic surgeon come to a conclusion that a partial knee replacement is the only option? I had surgery for a torn meniscus on my left knee over a year and a half ago. Since then, the knee feels worse and is progressively getting worse. I have been on steroids, had injections, take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, went through PT...and even continue to exercise the knee now.
Avatar f tn I am sitting here minus my right leg from above the knee. I had knee replacement surgery after they refused to fix the problem and caused me to spend 8 years becoming crippled and severely dependent on opiates. I have been told by drs. that cortesone injections speed up the degeneration of the meniscus (cartlidge) and help speed up the bone on bone situation that occurs when the meniscus is gone. One of the symptoms of that is bone spurs developing where it is bone on bone.
Avatar f tn This would be a difficult question to answer without the relevant clinical details. A knee replacement is not preferred in young patients as the life of a knee replacement around 10-20 years (the newer devices last longer than the older ones). Though knee replacements are usually successful and help in regaining movements around the joint conservative management is preferred due to the risk associated with the replacement surgery and a possible re-replacement surgery.
Avatar f tn i am 53 years old. i had surgery for torn meniscus in left knee on 10/13/2007, and i have been in pain since. i am currently receiving my 3rd round of synvisc. i have had 3 or 4 cortisone injections, they seemed to be helping but the times in between have gotten shorter. my dr. keeps telling me i'm too young for knee replacement. he tells me it's arthritis, i can't believe it. i am not overweight (147 lbs.), however, before the surgery i weighed 128 lbs.
Avatar f tn I was told by one position that I could not have a knee replacement unless they did a Fulkerson because my knee was not tracking properly. I now assume he was referring to a partial knee replacement. As I've been referred to a position for total knee replacement because the Fulkerson did not completely resolve my pain and improve my mobility.
