Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain when cycling

knee-pain

Avatar n tn It seems to run along the edge of the knee cap. At first the pain was only when I walked up and down stairs and had to put all my weight on one knee but now I can hardly extend my knee without getting sharp pains on the inside of the knee. Also, not sure if this is relevant, but there is a painless bruise on the middle of my knee right below my knee cap and I have no idea where it came from. Any ideas?

Avatar m tn Hello! It's been four months now that my right knee is slightly swollen. The swelling is visible on the knee itself and the bottom part of my quadricep. It is not much but it's visible especially when compared with my other knee. I don't feel pain, only minor discomfort which gets a bit worse and spreads to a larger area (the discomfort, not the swelling) when I stand up or sit down for too long.
Avatar f tn Hello. Last week I felt a pain in my right knee when walking downstairs. That happens sometimes and usually goes away the next day but this time it didn't and has been going on for over a week now. The pain is dull and not very strong. I noticed it happens when I shift more weight to the right leg- mostly when walking up and down stairs or when squatting and then standing up. It does not hurt when: I stand (even for a long time) or walk.
Avatar f tn I left it on for about 1 hour and when I removed everything, I did a ‘test walk’…not only was my knee not stiff, and the swelling was 95% GONE…all within the 1 hour treatment!!!!! I could walk with 100% less discomfort and this was 10x more effective than the Cortisone or three Hydraluronic Acid injections I had received in a two months period.
Avatar f tn However, she continues to have intense knee pain (7-8 on the 1 to 10 scale) on a constant basis when weight bearing. Her knee frequently gives out -- she falls a lot -- especially when bumped from the side. Her orthopedist has said probably patello-femoral syndrome (growth plates still marginally open) but acknowledges that the knee instability isn't consistent with that diagnoses (nor is the intensity of the pain).
Avatar n tn i was getting an awful pain in my knee when getting up from knelling down, also climbing stairs with the pain ,i could hear it creak.that was about three years ago.it comes back only when i go a few days without drinking goats milk.its too strong in tea first thing in morning.i have a glass for my dinner every day and in cornflakes once or twice a week. works for me .
Avatar m tn I forgot to mention when I stand or walk for a long period of time as well, the rest of my leg begins to ache, as well as my knee. The knee pain wasn't there in the past but it began to hurt recently.
506259 tn?1228788619 My blood glucose actually goes down after eating but is high in the morning upon waking. When these boughts of pain happen I end up with a low grade fever too. Nothing helps to stop the pain. Even when I have suspected we found something to help it just happened to be "the cycle" ending only to return within a week, usually less. My heart symptoms have gotten alot better, but still occur. Palpitations and the tachy. No rhyme no rhythm. To any of this.
Avatar m tn The outside of my left knee (the left side) clicks whenever I'm bearing weight on it and I bend it more than about 45 degrees. When I touch it, what feels like a bone just above and to the left of the kneecap pops out a little bit. My right knee (which is fine) does something similar but much more subtle and I can't feel it unless I'm actually touching it.
Avatar m tn once i run, the knee gets warmed up n its ok, but later it starts paining, especially on inner side of knee and back. once i fold the knee, and then open leg, i have to press back of knee to straighten it up, wonder what has gone wrong?once i rest 2 days or so, it improves but recurs after every running session. what should i do?take up swimming or cycling, less susceptible to injuries?any suggestions, less going to doctor again please???
Avatar n tn My job entails alot of walking and cycling which is keeping me fit but to stay in work I have to take permanent pain killers about 8 of each,(Solpadol and Tramadol)and Diazapan 25mg at night, and still I have like an electric shock shooting down my leg,my knee I can hardly bend with pain, added with lower back pain, and pins and needles in my feet.
Avatar m tn After a long period of pain in the back of my knee and around towards the side of the knee I finally went to get it checked. I was told that my cartilage has worn and I now have arthritis as a result. I am in pain daily with it. Most of all I am so worried about my life, as I am a teacher. I am standing most of the day and I am now fearful that I will have to quit the one thing I love doing. I was so so so shocked to hear this news. I just thought I had torn a ligament or something.
Avatar m tn My worry is whether it is really epididymitis or something else relating to nerve. I have pain in my left foot, left knee, left genitals, left hand. The pain in left hand and left genitals are severe at times. Infact I can see the pain in my left hand progressed. Now I'm having numbness as well in my left hand. The pain all the way radiates to my left cheek sometimes.
Avatar m tn 3) Can I continue with sports such as cricket, cycling and swimming if I wear knee braces/supports? If yes then which kind of knee braces/support? (because I usually tend to injure my knee with the elastic knee supports more often than without it). 4) Would Yoga, magnet therapy or any kind of therapy help heal the knee joint? Thanks in anticipation...
Avatar m tn I was out running and the pain manifested at first at the back of my knee. It has variously been diagnosed as a knee sprain, torn meniscus, patella tendonitis. and we just don't know. Hopefully you'll get a more definitive diagnosis than I have. But you have to see the right professional to find out. You will probably be sent for X-rays and an MRI. Hope it works out.
Avatar n tn And have tried everything he has asked me too. The only thing that has worked for my knee pain that allows me to be pain free ,is pain pills, but I am afraid to ask him for them because of the immediate labeling(which even you are having as you read this) that comes from someone asking for a strong pain medication. Stay off the knee! I can’t, I have no desire to be stationary until I am dead.Limit your activities> I already do, no running, jumping, or hard impact sports.
Avatar f tn Older woman here, developed knee pain 2 months ago. It thankfully went away, but then about a week ago started hurting again, this time in different location, just to the left and medial of my knee cap. Every step is excruciating, only way to describe it. Guess I have meniscus tear? But has anyone experienced this type of horrible pain with Every Step? If so did you find a remedy?
Avatar n tn Exercise will also help, but it has to be non-impact, like bicycling or stationary cycling. Simply sitting in a chair and lifting the foot until the knee is straight, maybe with a couple pounds of weight on the ankle, can help keep the surrounding muscles and ligaments strong enough to provide support. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Doing crunches and planks won't get rid of that pesky belly fat, you will have to take up a form of aerobic exercise to burn fat. For a recovering knee injury I'd suggest either taking up swimming or even cycling.
Avatar f tn Walking short distances, standing for long periods, running, swimming, cycling, yoga poses such as warrior 2, squatting, balancing on one leg. (no knee pain during a month where I was bed ridden due to unrelated illness). WEIGHT: healthy PAIN IN OTHER AREAS OF BODY: Hips and glute med ( I have been working on hip flexibility, glute max strength and rolling hips, glutes, quads and IT band in hopes of helping my knees.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am experiencing a noise from my knee every time I walk up stairs or hills. I've been doing some hill work lately and the noise is really starting to get to me. I don't think I had any pain or swelling (but now that I'm worried I feel it may be hurting a little. I'm not sure if this is real or perceived.). It is only in my right knee. Earlier today I felt that it was giving way but this felt minor.
Avatar f tn It felt as if the joint pain was moving, started in right elbow with a deep sharp pain and next was in left knee then left ankle tendon. Both calves hurt as if by vigorous exercise and were tender to the touch. By the weekend of March 10th it was in right ankle and shin bone-then right knee. Joints and muscles remain weakened and mildly achy even after the sharp pain subsides.
Avatar n tn I took some time of from running (5 months) and recently started training again. The hip pain had greatly diminished and now it is back with a vengenance. It hurts when bending knee to chest, or after running, walking, cycling, basically overuse. I use a heating pad which helps at night. Is this a hip flexor injury and how do I treat it?
