Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain upper knee cap

knee-pain

Avatar n tn The injury feels like I overstretched something, similar to a pulled muscle. From the squat position it is at the top of the knee, above the cap and painful to any pressure. It has evolved into a dull pain behind the cap and located at the top. I work a desk job and the worst part is keeping the knee in the sitting position. It is really difficult to stand up and straighten it out.
Avatar n tn This essentially means a softening of the cartilage of the knee cap. The anatomical sources of pain in this area is now considered to be from the richly innervated subchondral bone (bone below the articular cartilage), infrapatellar fat pad, or the medial and lateral retinaculum of the joint. “...certain mechanical conditions may predispose you to a mistracking knee cap. ” Cartilage does not have the same blood supply that bone does.
Avatar m tn have a knot on knee cap when to doc. 1974 said it was like munchhousen something and not the one for women doc.
Avatar m tn Is the pain under your knee cap or tendon? From what you are saying it sounds like your saying under your knee cap. You could have patellofemoral syndrome; very common for cyclists (read your bio). Try this website. http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_patellod_sma.
Avatar m tn Hello, thanks for responding the pain has not gone away and it has been almost three weeks, the area of the pain feels to be a little under my knee cap in front and slightly moving to the left side of the knee cap area. When I bend it and try to put weight the pain is a instant sharp shooting pain and it looks a tiny bit puffy on the left side of the knee cap but I put ice and it don't go down. Had xrays done and I was told by ER dont look bad, should I not listen and get a MRI?
293157 tn?1285873439 s orthopedic doctor that same day and then was started on a physical therapy routine to strengthen my upper leg muscles to hold the knee cap in place. It is simply a group of exercises that I can do at home. I saw the therapist for a few weeks to practice the exercises. In the meantime, for four days I stayed off of that leg, got a knee brace, got a cane, used R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression and elevation). After four long days, it was fine and has not happened since.

Avatar f tn I was told that I have patella feminel pain, I am use to having trouble kneeling and walking after a shift at work and and my knee being weak and the knee cap moving around, but lately even when I am not doing anything it feels as though something is push up on my knee cap, and extremely painful and I cant get the pain to go away. At time it feels as though something is being wedged under my knee cap.
Avatar f tn If the pain comes on bending the knee, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained while playing), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint.
Avatar m tn On and off, meaning days can go inbetween these episodes, I'll get this pain around the inner part of my knee cap that'll radiate through my upper thigh and sometimes all the way to the arch of my foot. It feels tight, and as if it burns. Any help?
Avatar f tn This has probably be asked about a billion times but I give it a shot. I'm a 31 year old male I'm in great shape. I have a spot on my left knee if I bend my knee and knead on it it's a sharp shooting electric like pain on the outside of the left knee almost dead even with the top outside corner of my knee cap.
Avatar m tn I would first say, do not do any exercises that cause pain. The pain could be realted to the knee cap. Apply ice (no heat!) 10 minutes at a time a few times a day.
Avatar f tn But then up and pain subsided. Possibly knee cap moved back in place. Now then in morning knee lil swollen, pain when walking, no bending or squatting which would lead my proffessional opinion to be you over streched tendons, possibly a slight tear. Use an ice pack for 2 days twice a day 30 mins each. No more weights till Friday. If everything returns to normal leave the squats out for an additional week. However by this Friday if knee is still the same, go see family doctor.
Avatar n tn Prepatellar bursitis, patellar subluxation, knee cap dislocation all can lead to pain directly over the knee cap.Rest, antiinflammatory medications, application of ice to the knee all are very important for reducing the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or are severe it is best to see an orthopaedician.I hope it helps. Best luck and kind regards!
Avatar f tn Over the past 4 days I have been experiencing pain/Throbbing in my right knee. I do not recall doing any activities which may have damaged it in anyway. The pain feels like it comes from underneath my knee cap, slightly to the right. It throbbs when I am sat down, and if i move my knee left or right whilst my foot is on the floor I get a very sharp shooting pain which makes me jump.
Avatar f tn I have just started having a dull aching pain in and around my left knee. It has started waking me up at night. I am already on Celebrex 200 twice a day. Could this still be arthritis?
Avatar n tn When I get on my left knee I have a severe pain on the outside of the leg just below the knee.
Avatar f tn But no use, then had advised me to wear knee cap for few days. I was feeling better with knee cap. I removed it after 25 days, it was little better for 2 days, then again the pain is back. After few days, went to orthopedic, he said no problems and advised me to do some exercises. Then also no use. I have still have the pain in my knee and following parts....couldn't talk for more than 10 mins. Could you please advise me how to solve this and become normal.
670987 tn?1284498786 Hey everyone, I am pregnant with my third child (about 17 weeks) with this pregnancy it has been one thing after another. First of all I have headaches everyday, now for about the last 5 hours or so, I've had a constant throbbing pain in my knee cap on my left leg. There is a bruised colored knot on the left side but that isn't where the pain is. The pain is around the bottom of the knee cap itself. I've tried a heating pad, ice, tylenol, etc. Not helping.
Avatar m tn I went down immediately. I thought it was a knee injury b/c that is what hurt first. Then the pain moved down my leg to the top of my ankle just above the foot. Then the pain moved back up just below the knee to the outside of my upper calf - between the calf and the shin bone. My left side is sore and has a numming feeling. What do you think this injury is?
Avatar f tn I have minimal swelling above the knee cap but no redness, warmth or presence of a fever. The pain is worse when I am sitting, climbing or coming down stairs, and extending the knee from 90 to 180 degrees. I have major weakness in the joint when standing (almost feels like it's going to "give out" if that makes sense). In the past 3 weeks it has started "popping" when I attempt to extend it. It cracks and makes funny grinding noises.
Avatar f tn I have a hard (boney) bruised lump on the upper right part of my knee cap. It hurts to touch it and put pressure on it when I am walking. It is also swelled (kind of feels like there is fluid in it). I also feel grinding at the top of my knee when I move it and there it pops on the left side. Almost two weeks ago I fell and skinned the same knee pretty badly. The part that got skinned is healing nicely but I don't know what this lump is. Any ideas on what this could be?
Avatar f tn t done anything (knowingly) to injure it. The pain is below my knee cap where it meets the shin bone. It only hurts when in motion...walking or using stairs, or anytime I have my weight on it. I have to limp because the pain hurts so much. Some days are worse than others; some times there is very little pain. When sitting down there is no pain, and I can move my leg around with no pain while sitting. My knee pops occasionally but nothing new.
