Avatar m tn I am a runner and have been experiencing pain in my right knee for several years. I ran a lot in high school and then stopped for a while and have been trying to get back into it on and off for years (I am 28 now). for the last four years I have been experiencing sharp pain on the outside of my right knee starting usually after running about 3 miles. no pain when I am not running. It comes on gradually but I eventually need to stop running.
Avatar f tn Is someone willing to comment on their experience with the MAKI partial knee replacement surgery? I'm having knee pain a year following partial medial meniscus surgery a year ago & looking at all options. My knee soreness has never really gone away. I'm a 58 yr old runner who used to be very active and am very frustrated with my treatment so far. My Ortho is suggesting Synvisc injections, but I'm looking for a more durable outcome. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a runner and i have been having a horrible pain below me knee on the inside part of my shin. I can touch the part of my bone that hurts and locate exactly where it is... its about the size of a quarter but there in not a knot there and the part about an inch around it is a little tender. This has been going on for about a month. Any ideas on the best way to fix it? Is ice or heat better. I havent been able to run and its killing me...
Avatar f tn Hi, you could have jumpers knee. But the pain could also be due to other causes like Tendinitis, in which inflammation of the tendons can produce similar pain. Arthritis or bursitis can produce pain in the joints. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. Bursa are sac like structures above and below the joints which helps in the movement of the tendons around the joints. These can get inflamed causing bursitis. Treatment can be initiated only after a confirmed diagnosis.
1176841 tn?1330832460 Thankfully I have Distal Polyneuropathy (a genetic disorder) in my right foot I do not feel all the pain I should be feeling. I have been told this condition is horribly painful. Now my knee on the other hand is a 13 on the pain scale of 1-10. In August I had a Cortisone shot in my right knee but it only lasted 2 weeks then the pain came back worse. Since I had to have 2 neck surgeries one in Sept. and 1 in Jan. I couldn't go back for another shot.
1470596 tn?1286713970 My recommendation is DON'T RUN!! I was a runner and now have both knees totally replaced either speed walk or use an elliptical. I use an elliptical and stationary bike for the bike my routine is first 90 seconds @ 60-65 rpm then 30 sec. @ high intensity then back to 90 sec @ 60-65 you alternate this for 20 minutes with a 5 minute cool down try to get your heartrate up to your maximum rate that would be 220 minus your age P.S.
Avatar f tn Back when I was a kid, I hurt my right knee pretty hard. Went to the doctors, as the "swelling" wasn't receding, and was diagnosed with exostosis. Had surgery to remove the ostheocondroma at the age of 13, which resided on the inner part of right knee. Around 20, it started bothering me again.
Avatar f tn Only ONE knee hurts? Which part of your knee hurts? Front, back or sides of knee cap? It only hurts WHILE you run? What is the end result when you are done? Shaking after you run is not uncommon and is usually a sign you were running on empty during your practice. It's the after affect of that. Lactic acid builds up. Do you do anything for recovery? My son's coach instructs them to drink a bottle of chocolate milk for recovery post run.
Avatar f tn I have been running 3 miles a day fro 3x a week, until recently because i have been experiencing really aching pain in my knee and if i keep running it becomes really painful like i have torn something, and sometimes my knee gives way too, if i stop running and walk the pain wears off for a while, i have had an 6-8 week rest, but it still hurts when i try to bend my knee, it pulls really tight and hurts, haven`t tried running fully yet, sometimes the knee hurts really bad , it hurts in the back
Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar m tn - knee cap feels under pressure or aggravated, always. (like right after you lightly bump it on a table by accident) - extreme tightness. I cannot sit on my right heel. Once my heel is within about 8 to 10 inches of my butt my knee gets too tight to go further and it is extremely painful. - shooting pain up the outside of the hammy near the IT band, and down the outside of the calf, near the head of the fibula. This is on and off either during exercise or a result of.
Avatar n tn I am a healthy 52 W/F. I fractured the right tibia, located behind the menicus. Dr. stated surgery would have risks to include tearing up other areas within the area of the fracture. Instead of surgery, has me on on crutches, brace with a 30/70 extention. Rest, ice, elevate leg. No weight placed upon the leg at all. Injury occured two weeks ago. Yesterday, the foot/ankle now has sever edema even after the RICE. What is going on. Is there a need for concern. What's next in the treatment plan.
Avatar n tn if the pain is in your groin and radiates down to the knee it's probably arthritis. if it's in the side it could be trochanteric bursitis or IT band inflammation, or maybe piriformes syndrome. if it's in the rear and radiates down the back of the leg, it could be sciatic pain or pain from a pinched nerve in the back. have you had xrays? or seen anyone for it? you could try NSAIDs and PT to see if that helps.
Avatar f tn I have experienced the same thing, sudden onset joint pain first in my right knee then to my left knee then to both elbows and wrists all over the course of a few days. The doctor said I was neg. for gout, rhum. arthritis or anything else. I started taking motrin 3 times a day to cope. Then I read where Yoga can relieve arthritis symtoms, so I started doing Yoga. The benefits have been stellar! Ive regained motion and dont need nearly as many pain killers as before.
Avatar f tn My gastroc contracted incredibly tightly, causing excruciating pain, and I was completely unable to move my leg from knee down. I was in so much pain that it took at least 30 seconds to explain to my boyfriend what was happening. He proceeded to manually extend my gastroc, relieving the acute pain. However, the pain was intense enough that I vomited after cessation, and had a low grade fever for 20-30 minutes. My leg is pretty sore today.

I got up walking with a limp and developed a bruise behind my knee, had spasims throughout my hamstring, and pain in the upper area of my hamstring just below my butt when walking and sitting was extremely painful. 2168811 tn?1337227801 Looking for a quick response. Have any of you orthopedists performed any kind a knee replacement on a runner (marathoner) who continued running with success? I have 24 more states to complete to have done them all. If not recommended, do I just go on until the pain is unbearable, get the operation, and stop running/walking? Is there middle ground? If so, what is it? Thanks in advance.

Avatar n tn The up and down shaking of the stomach can produce a feeling in the stomach and possible cramping. This may take time for a runner to get used to but can be helped if you take some precautions about what you drink and eat prior to and after each run. "Exercise physiologist Kitty Consolo, PhD, is cited in Valente's article as suggesting that changes in your diet before a run may need to be made. Avoid heavier, greasier foods and especially dairy and high fiber foods.
