I had bilateral knee replacement done in 2008. I went through the operation with no pain. Now, it's a different story. I have jolts of muscle and tendon pain. By that, I mean, if I take a step I get a jolt, which sometimes throws me forward. Sometimes, when I am walking I get a spasm of pain, then it will go away. I do not have constant pain. My walking is not very straight. Anyone with this kind of problem?
I have knee pain and swelling that comes and goes. I have been to an Orthopedic and have had x-rays and MRI. Nothing specific was noted in the x-ray and scan. The Dr suggested orthoscopic surgery to see what he might be able to do. I have not had the surgery.
He also suggested I may have osteoarthritis. The pain will come with walking, sometimes very quickly and sometimes not much at all.

My knee diagnosis is"there is a deep fissuring in the central patellar cartilage that is full thickness.. There is underlying reactive change in the patella..." My back diagnosis is "at L5 S1 there is a mild diffuse disc buldge without central or forminal stenosis..
I've had this knee pain (left and right) for almost a yr already. The symptoms are as follows:
Grinding / grating sensation upon flexing the knee. Aching pain at and below the patella. Difficulty straightening the knee. Pain is most servere when putting weight or pressure on it. Pain can be felt when climbing up the stairs, jumping, running and standing for prolonged periods. In addition, pain can be felt behind the knee cap.
He told me to do leg presses and extensions to build up my quads. Unfortunately, this only aggravated my knee more and did not return for over a year due to financial difficulty. A month ago, I returned and he gave me a cortisone shot. It did not get rid of the irritation completely but it seemed to shorten the duration of symptoms. In the meantime, I have been going to physical therapy.

What type of pain is this that hits the right knee abruptly even like lightning so swift, and travels from the knee straight through the thigh nerve and/or tissues, shooting straight to the joint of the thigh and groins that lasts at least one to two minutes. Sometime the pain is so severe even after it has left I can still feel the pressure it leaves behind.
Does there feel like there is any extra heat coming from the knee? Do you see any redness in the area?

Thanks for replying. My doctor has made no official diagnosis but asked me to bend and flex my knee and leg this way and that. She said that my knee joint is a bit loose. I'm getting an x ray to find out and physio but I'm still waiting on both of these letters to get to me. I'll use the codeine and I have laxatives at home. I've been drinking more water lately so a bit more might help.
But then up and pain subsided. Possibly knee cap moved back in place. Now then in morning knee lil swollen, pain when walking, no bending or squatting which would lead my proffessional opinion to be you over streched tendons, possibly a slight tear. Use an ice pack for 2 days twice a day 30 mins each. No more weights till Friday. If everything returns to normal leave the squats out for an additional week. However by this Friday if knee is still the same, go see family doctor.
it also gives out every now and then, and now i also am experiencing a shooting pain that feels cold and radiates partly down to my upper calf bone, and after the shooting pain is over, the knee feels very cold and achy. (this pain i am describing is occurring inside the knee, and not on the exterior.
any ideas?
You describe my life almost to a tee!!!! My lyme came back neg as did for MS.
I would get demand a 2nd and 3rd opinion on that MRI!
I still have no diagnosis and just had another non-contrast and contrast mri that didn't show anything.

So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint.
I do not feel any popping or grinding. Most pain is across the top of the knee cap and along the interior side of my knee. The pain is present while walking, climbing stairs and when I first stand after sitting for a long period of time. Additionally, if I stand for too long, my knee is extremely sore and stiff. The worst pain is that which wakes my in the middle of the night at least 1-2 times per week.
I was diagnosed with MS in Feb of 2011. My symptoms started with tingling/numbness in my feet that worked it's way up my legs and into my groin area. The symtoms have subsided in my legs and groin area, but the tinglin in my feet has never gone away. I've also been experiencing daily tremors and twitches. Within the last week, I've been experiencing pain behind my knee and last night I felt a bulge. It is not an abscess, but more of a swell.
I am feeling pain in my right knee for 7 years now and all the doctors say they don't know the reason. One of my doctors did say I have bruising on the inside of my knee and gave me medication. After a few days, it wasn't working and the pain kept coming. I have a pain on the inside of my knee. It's constant unbearable pain. It hurts to where my whole leg gets numb and my feet gets cold. My knee also has this stingy feeling and they give out on itself.
Each flair up lasts longer and longer and is more and more severe. The pain in my knee is in the front, the inside and the back. It includes swelling, clicking, catching and, strange enough, tingling in the bottom of my foot when my leg is extended all the way. Last year all I did was swing my legs out of bed and stand up when extreme pain shot through my knee. For the next 2 weeks I was limping and the pain was pretty severe. It started 5 years ago with pain going up and down the stairs.
