5715171 tn?1372914664 I ran a mile. I started stretching and *bam* my left knee started to feel weird. When I stand, or make my leg straight it feels as if it wants to pop or something, not sure how to explain it. I get a small sharp pain when I bend my knee. I might have overstretched it? I don't know what to do and I need quick answers to know if I should keep running or take a break? I'm 14, female. Thanks.
Avatar m tn for the last four years I have been experiencing sharp pain on the outside of my right knee starting usually after running about 3 miles. no pain when I am not running. It comes on gradually but I eventually need to stop running. The pain is located in the vicinity of the lateral meniscus and is most intense when my foot is off the ground and my leg moving forward. I have had no major injury to this knee. What is going on? is there anything I can do?
Avatar n tn It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon. What is now called patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) has also been called runner's knee, anterior knee pain, or chondromalacia of the patella.
Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar m tn If the pain comes on bending the knee as in walking step or running downhill or down a flight of stairs, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
Avatar f tn I get unbelievable pain from my knee down to my ankles when I jog. After about 40 minutes that pain is some what tolerable and I can jog for 4-5 minutes straight. For the rest of my day my ankles are sore. Does anybody have any idea what this is?
Avatar f tn Compression of nerve, deep vein thrombosis too could be causing leg pain or it could just be overtired muscles. So if nothing is found in the knee, then these possibilities will have to be looked at by nerve conduction studies, MRIs or by duplex ultrasounds. At times dehydration and electrolyte mbalance is the cause for calf pain. So this too would need to be ruled out. Treatment will follow correct diagnosis. Do consult an orthopedic specialist at the earliest.
Avatar m tn 30, with my gf and my knee got super tight and after another step a SHARP pain shot through it and I nearly fell. We had only gone about 4 miles and had warmed up properly and stretched, the weather was warm so I wasn't cold or tight when it happened. I have seen my medical department and they suspected ITB or Meniscus problems. However after about 2 months of aggressive icing, stretching, and physical therapy I can now run LESS and less before the pain comes back.
Avatar f tn i have suffered knee pain for just over 3yrs, graually getting worse, now at the piont i have to have my knees strapped up every day, after repeat visits to the docs, a foot specialist tells me i have shrinking muscles in my legs causeing the knee pain, because my legs are not flexiable enough.my job intails alot of excerise, i do 8hour shifts without sitting + lots of walking, i cant seem to find any help on internet.
Avatar n tn I am sorry you are experiencing such pain in your shin. Pain any where is horrid but especially so when it limits your ability to ambulate. Shin pain generally occurs from overuse. This problem can come from irritation of the muscles or other tissues in the lower leg or from a stress fracture. This injury is most common in runners who increase their mileage or the intensity of their running, or who change the surface on which they are running.
Avatar n tn Lack of progress and improvement becomes understandable when one considers that typical evaluation and treatment are directed at the symptoms. But with chronic knee pain, and many other pain syndromes, actual benefits may be obtained by addressing underlying biomechanical problems. Faulty biomechanics are at the root of many ongoing knee problems. Of course, various other diseases and orthopedic conditions may cause the same type of chronic pain.
Avatar n tn As for liquids, make sure to drink plenty of water at least an hour before your run. Not only can your main running muscles cramp from lack of hydration, but so can your stomach. Runners, especially beginners, may find that their stomach pain after a run will diminish and even disappear as their fitness level increases. In their clinical study "Gastrointestinal Problems In Distance Running," in the International SportMed Journal, Dr. Stephen M. Simons and Dr.
Avatar m tn and was given a few strecthes and leg strengthening exercises to help with my knee problems. Well, after a solid two weeks of performing these exercises, my knee feels strong and well. But whenever i have to stretch and put my left knee into my buttox the entire knee feels an incredible amount of pain. Also, whenever I try and sit on my ankles, I am in HUGE amounts of pain just in the left knee.
Avatar f tn Only ONE knee hurts? Which part of your knee hurts? Front, back or sides of knee cap? It only hurts WHILE you run? What is the end result when you are done? Shaking after you run is not uncommon and is usually a sign you were running on empty during your practice. It's the after affect of that. Lactic acid builds up. Do you do anything for recovery? My son's coach instructs them to drink a bottle of chocolate milk for recovery post run.
Avatar f tn I've been recently diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy and myopathy. I have worst weakness in my thighs and biceps. The Rt leg has affected my walk at times, which is the weakest. It feels like my knee (the issue is not my knee) is locked and hyper extended when I walk at times. This comes and goes without much warning. The faster I work, the worst it gets and the slower my speed the easier it gets. Sometimes I can't even walk fast even if I try.
Avatar n tn Any type of Jogging, running, jumping. Pain Usually comes right away. **Things that sometimes cause pain: Dynamics stretching. Defensive slides Karaoke Jump rope Lunges Squats Leg press **Things that don’t cause pain : Static stretches Straight leg strength exercises Stationary Biking. Elliptical Swimming Walking (unless sore from a work out PT). Resting, lying down ***Questions about the pain and his knee: Is it the quads still needing to get stronger?
Avatar n tn prior to the surgery i had throbbing knee pain in posterior right knee. they tried cortisone shots - 2nd one helped but wore off quickly. even after TKR i STILL have this pain. Cold weather intensifies the overall pain. i still have on going knee pain in general and doc says takes sometmes ONE YEAR before see difference. When they did the TKR they did clean up some scar tissue (had 4 prior procedures before having TKR).
1470596 tn?1286713970 I had this problem and realised thanks to my physio, that I overpronated when running. This can cause knee problems which is why I needed to buy shoes with arch support which stops the foot rolling inwards. For walking you can buy orthotic insoles but I would not recommend running with these. I use Adistar Salvations to run. A good running shop will check you for pronation before you buy. Also this might seem obvious but are you stretching before and after running.
Avatar m tn It would happen to 1 or both legs at same time. when i stop running i would have to continue to walk to ease the pain. I never experience anything like this when i used to run in the treadmill.
1773330 tn?1314171331 i ve been running on threadmill for 2 weeks..i ve got a knee pain...any solution to decrease the pain?
Avatar m tn These pains exist only as a shooting pain as a direct result of either running or tightening all the muscles around the knee simultaneously. These pains cannot be reproduced from pressure. After seeing multiple doctors, sports med docs, and an orthopedic doc, no one was able to resolve the problem. My MRI came back clean (according to the sports med doc and the ortho doc) and they basically told me I had nothing wrong with me and I should go home and just wait it out.
Avatar f tn When your sitting down, pull your legs up and flex your thigh muscles, this will help strengthen the muscles around your knee. And also doing some water exercices, with the warm weather, it is a safer alternative than low impact aerobics and you won't even notice your exercising! We here understand the pain of arthritis, I hoped this info helped some.
Avatar f tn m reading online, I see to rest it and discontinue any activity that aggravates the knee or causes pain. I was curious whether I should be using crutches or not, I just don't want to make it worse. The orthopedic didn't say anything about it, and just gave me a NSAID cream to put on it for the swelling and what-not.
Avatar f tn Also if this helps, I have had knee pain since i was a kid and we just thought it was growing pains, but i still get it so i am also thinking i will get tested for arthritus. It is bad in that i go to sleep each night with a heat pack and tiger balm rubbed into it. My left hip has recently started to have the same aching feeling. It all seems to be on my left side!
