Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain running marathon

knee-pain

Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar n tn My mom is in training for a marathon, and had to quit after complaining of severe pain in her hips. She went to the doctor and after bone scans, x-rays, and the like; the doctor said it was burrcitous (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong). At first she thought it was arthritis, but it just kept getting worse. She's not allowed to run anymore.
Avatar f tn Back when I was a kid, I hurt my right knee pretty hard. Went to the doctors, as the "swelling" wasn't receding, and was diagnosed with exostosis. Had surgery to remove the ostheocondroma at the age of 13, which resided on the inner part of right knee. Around 20, it started bothering me again.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone! I am 11 weeks 1 day & am an avid runner. I ran my first marathon a month before I got pregnant. My plan is to continue running throughout my pregnancy as long as I can,(which includes running a half-marathon). I'm just curious to know if there have been any other moms out there that can share their stories of running while pregnant. My doctor says it should be fine & that I just need to listen to my body when it starts to hurt.
Avatar n tn I am a marathoner, last time i ran 17 miles on a regular schedule for San francisco marathon before 2 weeks and realised pain on knee and back. I stop running whenever i have such issues. I went to Detroit and came back in a bus, next morning my back pain was sever then i took rest for a day. I took some pain killer and got back to work and run again but max i could run in last 2 weeks is 5 miles. I am having shoulder and lower neck pain still.
Avatar f tn I was training for a half marathon when I found out I was pregnant about a month ago. I gave up all training because the first few weeks I had major fatigue and cramps. Now I am feeling better and the race is Saturday. I was debating on jog/walking it. I've been reading mixed opinions on running that distance during the first trimester. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn The pain gets worse when walking, but running/biking actually alleviates the pain. Since the pain started, I have run two 5ks and a half marathon, with minor pain, but not enough to cause me to not be able to race. The pain is concentrated behind my knee and in my upper thigh. I am terrified its a DVT, due to the fact that walking makes my leg feel so heavy. No swelling/redness as far as I can tell - but my anxiety about this is making it hard to see for sure.
Avatar m tn t run in it, but chased friends throughout Chicago that did run), I started to have severe pain and some swelling in my left knee (previously twisted it in HS, approx. 8-9 years ago, never went to MD). I initially just assumed it was from running around so much since it usually did that after I would be on my feet for more than 8 hours (used to work retail). However, after 3-4 weeks the pain never went away and only got worse.
Avatar m tn ve found that knee issues tend to be quite difficult to accurately dx. For example, I was told my knee pain from a marathon was nothing after x-rays, PT, and an MRI. I was finally diagnosed almost a year later with pes anserinus bursitis. Is there anything else that it might be aside from Plica Syndrome? My podiatrist passed it off as a bursitis, which I don't think is an accurate dx.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a long distance runner and have been running for awhile now. I am currently training for another half-marathon at the moment and have been gradually increasing my mileage. I run an average of 15-20 miles a week when I am not in training. So I ran a 12 mile training run on Sunday with absolutely no issues or pain of anything. And it felt great. I obviously took Monday off and rested. However I did walk my dog for about a mile that night.
Avatar n tn It hurts when bending knee to chest, or after running, walking, cycling, basically overuse. I use a heating pad which helps at night. Is this a hip flexor injury and how do I treat it?
20812737 tn?1519267696 I am traveling in Asia and only have sleeves that cover from the ankle protrusions to just below the knee. I will only have regular socks and running shoes for my feet. I had pretty bad swelling of the foot and ankle for about ten days after the flights over here. Would it be a good idea to put those compression sleeves on before beginning the 25 hour travel marathon to return home to the usa?
1470596 tn?1286713970 I had this problem and realised thanks to my physio, that I overpronated when running. This can cause knee problems which is why I needed to buy shoes with arch support which stops the foot rolling inwards. For walking you can buy orthotic insoles but I would not recommend running with these. I use Adistar Salvations to run. A good running shop will check you for pronation before you buy. Also this might seem obvious but are you stretching before and after running.
1773330 tn?1314171331 i ve been running on threadmill for 2 weeks..i ve got a knee pain...any solution to decrease the pain?
Avatar n tn I have plans of running a marathon (26.2 miles) in Sept and have been taking these meds since March. My endo said she thinks that they probably won't work for me because I had such high levels and a goiter. She is suggesting that I do the radioactive iodine if the levels don't come down after several months of the meds. She also told me she wasn't sure if I would be able to run the marathon. I am still having knee pain and muscle weakness in my legs.
Avatar m tn It would happen to 1 or both legs at same time. when i stop running i would have to continue to walk to ease the pain. I never experience anything like this when i used to run in the treadmill.
Avatar f tn 7d) and I have developed a new symptom. It started about a week ago. The pain is above my knee, inner thigh. It started on my left thigh, and it feels as if I ran a marathon and my thighs were rubbing together the whole time. Now the pain is on both sides, The pain is bearable, very uncomfortable. It's gotten to the point where I can't bend my legs. Anyone had this? Someone onlline said it might be a blood clot. I have a dr.
Avatar f tn Also I have done much nationally publicized research on the danger of a lifetime of marathon running (featured in Runner's World, WSJ, NYT, etc.) Read these three links. http://www.msma.org/uploads/6/2/5/3/62530417/marathon_running_an_unhealthy_addiction_editorial_mar_apr_2018_momed.pdf AND http://www.msma.org/uploads/6/2/5/3/62530417/goldilocks_zone_for_exercise_not_too_little_and_not_too_much_mar_apr_2018_momed.pdf AND http://www.msma.
Avatar m tn ve been running with no knee pain. I run on the dirt/grass, where others run on the hard cement. Time after again they would get knee injuries. I quit running in races because I could feel the difference in the hard surface on my legs running verus the dirt/grass. If it was me, since I love running, I would stay off the hard cement. Our joints aren't made for that hard pounding.
Avatar m tn I forgot to mention when I stand or walk for a long period of time as well, the rest of my leg begins to ache, as well as my knee. The knee pain wasn't there in the past but it began to hurt recently.
Avatar n tn This may have been caused whilst I was doing long distance runs as training for a marathon. I have been told to keep away from high impact activities such as running and was wondering whether rowing would come in to the category of a high impact activity? Should I keep away from rowing whilst I receive physiotherapy to help with the knee pain?
180992 tn?1383374057 My first week results from taking the combo GSI-7985 pill I just got yesterday. I was 19,700,000 and VL was 81. I am not getting the Ribavirin. Doctor said I'm probably UND this second blood draw. Will have results soon. It's seems with or without the terrible Riba this GSI-7985 is extraordinary. I didn't hit UND until wk 12 but relapsed with SOC back in 2007.
Avatar m tn My doctor has declared that both my retina are now OK and I can resume my normal activities including running again. however he did not permit me to run marathon and did not provide explanation/answer as when I can or ever can run marathon again. I am a leisure marathon runner , jogging at slow pace to cover a full marathon distance which took me 6.5 hours to finish marathon distance. My question is can I jog marathon or jog long distance without jeopardizing my retina ? Thanks.
