Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain outside tendon

knee-pain

Avatar n tn The clicking seems to be closest to the lateral posterior outside of the left knee, near the upper calf. Possibly meniscus related. A couple months ago I injured my left knee doing lunges. The pain was really bad, both the front and back of the knee. I never experienced clicking/popping in that knee prior. But suddenly it was happening all the time. As the pain subsided the clicking/popping got worse. It has been a couple months, the clicking/popping still very much there.
Avatar f tn My left was done in Janurary 2007 and my right knee was done in July 2007. Since the surgery I have had severe pain espically on the outside of the right knee. I have pain in both knees and limited movement in both. The pain has not gotten any better with time. I did have an injection of steroids about 6 months ago that helped some but things have not gotten any better since. Has anyone else had this sort of problem?
Avatar m tn Is the pain under your knee cap or tendon? From what you are saying it sounds like your saying under your knee cap. You could have patellofemoral syndrome; very common for cyclists (read your bio). Try this website. http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_patellod_sma.
4671444 tn?1357794171 It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. Since you had tendon injury 4 years back, this time too it could be a tendon troubling you. Hopefully the MRI will explain the cause of your pain. Meanwhile please rest your knee and avoid weight on it. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn I went to the emergency room the next day due to the pain in my knee. Doctor says I stretched the tendon on the outside of my knee causing pain...so I kept it elevated and took nsaids and iced it. I've rested it quite a bit. sitting for a few days and taking it easy overall. about a week ago I began to have pain in the calf. on a scale of one to ten, it feels about a five. it only hurts when touched.
Avatar n tn Doctors call the outside of the knee the lateral side of the knee. There are several common causes for pain in this area that vary by age and activity level. Once the source of the lateral knee pain is identified, it usually can be eliminated or decreased.
1961313 tn?1326290364 I have problems with my knees, just general stiffness-but one day I had to get down on my right knee and the pain was extreme,it wasn't necessarily in the knee but to the right side of the knee,it felt like the skin was splitting into,I look and the skin looked fine,so I don't know if it's the tendon or the muscle what ever it is,is very painful,in fact I can't get down on my knees any longer
Avatar m tn I'm in the military and am suffering from right knee pain in the patellar tendon area. I have had a PRP injection in the tendon and still suffer from the pain which seems to be worse after having the injection. I have also had physical therapy which did nothing to relieve my pain.
Avatar m tn (it took 3 subcutaneous stitches and 5 outside to close the wound) After going through 2 prescriptions of pain killers and still in pain and much swelling, I asked my PCP to refer me to a specialist. He sent me to Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh and the Orthopedic doctor told me they had read the MRI wrong and that I had a torn patellar tendon.
Avatar n tn The bone which you refer as knee cap is called patella and is a sesamoid (bone inside a tendon) bone of the tendon quadriceps. The front of thigh has four muscles and it is referred as quadriceps and it contains a bone inside the tendon called patella or sesamoid bone. Normally the bone is inside the tendon but when there is some wear or tear or arthritis or some anatomical defect it is attached to femur like patello femoral arthritis.
Avatar m tn I went down immediately. I thought it was a knee injury b/c that is what hurt first. Then the pain moved down my leg to the top of my ankle just above the foot. Then the pain moved back up just below the knee to the outside of my upper calf - between the calf and the shin bone. My left side is sore and has a numming feeling. What do you think this injury is?
Avatar f tn But do you think the pain i have thought was arthritus could actually be pain from having a patellar tendon rupture? If i was to have surgery to realign my patellar would that get rid of the crepitus? Thanks again.
Avatar n tn There is a band of tissue that starts at your hips and runs outside of your thigh down to your knee and is meant to provide stability to the knee during movement. This can cause pain like you describe. Here's information on it.https://www.webmd.com/pain-management/it-band-syndrome#1. Tingling or anything like that? You could also have a nerve issue.
Avatar n tn Alright, I have this pain in my right side of my hip. The pain isn't really in my hip but it's a shooting pain from my hip to my knee. I only have the pain when I take weight off my right leg for about a minute or more or when I put all my weight on my right leg for about a minute or more. First it started off every once in a while, but now after a month the pain is every time I put/ take the weight off my right leg. It is not from my sciatic nerve.
Avatar m tn After knee replacement surgery the most important thing is the patient should not fall. the 3 falls she had; might be she injured something? May be Quadriceps. Patella is a bone inside the tendon of Quadriceps and she has to be diagnosed with the reason of the failure of surgery she had for knee replacement an year ago. She has to be properly diagnosed of the problem, all parameters explained to your mom before she undergoes repair. Take care!
Avatar m tn Sounds like a tendon or muscle that goes over the knee and is being stretched when you sit down. Could be a tendon coming down from the lower back and being pulled at that point where it joins the knee bone. You need to see a Osteopath or a Physiotherapist and they will be able to give you the relief you seek.
Avatar n tn It is not a cramp because there are no knots on palpation and stretching does not help. If I sit and flex my hip, the pain moves into my patellar tendon, similar to the pain I have experienced for years, but much much worse. I have no idea what is going on... any help would be appreciated. Also, I was a gymnast for 13 years so I have had my share of orthopaedic problems, but never in my knees. I am also extremely flexible so muscle tightness is not a cause... Thanks!
Avatar m tn for the last four years I have been experiencing sharp pain on the outside of my right knee starting usually after running about 3 miles. no pain when I am not running. It comes on gradually but I eventually need to stop running. The pain is located in the vicinity of the lateral meniscus and is most intense when my foot is off the ground and my leg moving forward. I have had no major injury to this knee. What is going on? is there anything I can do?
Avatar n tn The medial collateral ligament, lateral collateral ligamentous complex, and popliteus tendon are within normal limits. The visualized quadriceps tendon and patellar tendon are intact and normal in signal. Patellar alignment is anatomic. There is grade 1 chondrosis with heterogeneity and low-grade fraying/fissuring along the medial patellar facet. Impression: 1. Complex tear of the posterior horn and body of the medial meniscus. 2. Tricompartmental chondrosis as described.
Avatar f tn m reading online, I see to rest it and discontinue any activity that aggravates the knee or causes pain. I was curious whether I should be using crutches or not, I just don't want to make it worse. The orthopedic didn't say anything about it, and just gave me a NSAID cream to put on it for the swelling and what-not.
Avatar m tn i cant do a straight leg raise or bend the knee with out excruciating pain and lots of effort if i can.
Avatar f tn Maybe someone can help me. For the past four months I have been experience really severe pain in my lower right leg. I have had shin splints before. I did the anti inflammatories, icing, rest, return to running slowly... etc. The pain persisted. The pain hurts when I run for longer than 5 minutes and hurts the duration of the run, and continues hurting the whole day. I had a bone scan and MRI done.
728965 tn?1266373645 I was just cleaning up my bedroom this morning, and noticed the pain. I was nearly to tears. When I touched the back of my knee around the tendon, it hurt significantly more. It's been 6 hours with the same pain, taken all I have available to take. Now I've begun to have pain followed by a moment of tingling from the back of my knee to my feet. My foot even acts like it's asleep.
Avatar f tn There is a Health Page on tendon reflexes, but I believe it simply says that absent tendon reflexes are abnormal. It does explain how tendon reflexes work, and other good information. "The tendon reflexes are lower level "stimulus -> reaction" effects. This means that the reflexes occur below the level of the brain. Each muscle group contains stretch-receptors that, when stimulated quickly cause the muscle to contract.
