Avatar f tn Hello, I've just started having pain on the outside of my right knee I was playing boo with my son when I first felt a sharp pain, over the week each time I kneel down I feel a hard throbbing pain, when rubbed it throbs and also when bent, when the leg is straight it's fine! My knee clicks now and again and when I feel the knee cap it feels like it's grinding, does anyone have any ideas what this could be, my partner seems to think it could be my cartilage!
Avatar n tn This essentially means a softening of the cartilage of the knee cap. The anatomical sources of pain in this area is now considered to be from the richly innervated subchondral bone (bone below the articular cartilage), infrapatellar fat pad, or the medial and lateral retinaculum of the joint. “...certain mechanical conditions may predispose you to a mistracking knee cap. ” Cartilage does not have the same blood supply that bone does.

Avatar f tn t understand why my knee is giving out on the outside and hurting behnd my knee on the outside if the tear is on the outter rim of the inside of my knee. Is this common? Avatar n tn I am not experiencing any pain unless I twist my knee. There is a small bulge on the outside of my knee cap. No popping noising when I bend my knee, it is hard to totally bend due to tightness from the swelling. I can put weight on it, but having to be really careful walking due to any twisting motion causing pain. Mostly I'm concerned about the one area that bulges out because there's almost no other swelling.
Avatar m tn But from yesterday I am having sharp pain in the outside portion of my left knee cap. It is fine if the knee is at rest or folded, but everytime I try to straighten my leg or walk, I feel the pain in the knee. While walking if I keep my knee bent a little, the pain lessens. I remember no external injury or any other strain on my legs. There is no outside pain or swelling. Also, my knee feels stiff, like the locked knuckles which you bend and crackle to make it normal.

Avatar m tn Pain in the front portion of the knee can be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the lining of the joint, possible due to injury while playing), arthritis, or injury to the patella cartilage (front portion of the knee). Pain on either sides of the knee is usually related to meniscal tears, injuries to the collateral ligaments, and even to arthritis. You will need X-rays and MRIs of the knee to find the exact. Treatment will follow correct diagnosis.
