Avatar m tn Also, repair vs debridement (trimming away the tear) depends on age and area of the tear. A meniscal tear can only be repaired if there is blood flow to the area. If there is no blood flow, a repair will be unsuccessful and a debridement would be the standard of care. Your Orthopaedic Surgeon will go over all options with you (I used to work for one) but I'm sure that arthroscopy is in your best interest. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I had keen surgery to fix a torn meniscal tear back in may and have arthritis in my keen in the bone for the last six months I have not felt a least bit better still have pain in back of knee and now have sever pain in the inner part of my keen after walking for just ten mins. I just had another MRI today and show the tear was still the but the doctor said that normal to still show the tear after being fix.
Avatar n tn I got on the forums because I fear I have reinjured my ACL. I tore it about 7 years ago. This time, I heard the loud "pop" sound and it was deja vu. I just knew and the ER doctor confirmed. However, after seeing an orthopedic surgeon, he said otherwise. He seemed to think maybe I tore some cartilage but nothing turned up on the MRI. The Lachman's test, he said, did not show much disturbance in my ACL.
Avatar m tn Well I've been through a few issues w my knee. So i start w the 1st to I had surgery for the 1st time. Mine began that way & I went 6 mthsw docs saying it was tendonitus. Well by the 5 mth. It got to where I could not take the pain at all. It was a meniscus tear in my knee & a plica band (dead tissue around the knee cap) did it come on suddenly or did u injure it? Mine was sudden & the tear got worse bc I kept going full force & didn't get treatment.
Avatar n tn Ever since then I cannot knee on a certain part of that knee. If I do I get a sharp, burning, stinging pain that quickly subsides once off the knee. I can walk and run on it fine, and have not experienced any swelling or other problems. I cannot feel any abnormalities on the outside. The pain is on top of the knee. Even pushing on a certain area it is is sensitive. What do you think?
Avatar m tn i underwent left knee orthroscopy for miniscus tear (removal of broken minisci pieces) 5 years back and recently the same with right knee. i was wondering how will it effect knees in longer run. will it effect walking, running, exercising etc?will i be able to perform sports?during routine walking/running,my left knee gives clicking sounds(but theseare painless, the same which got miniscus removed 5 years back ) is it harming knee?
Avatar f tn I have had a really painful right knee under the knee cap,its gradually becoming worse when I kneel down or go up and downstairs(particular going upstairs) I have to hold the rail going up as the pain is really bad.my knee does give way at times and if I turn awkwardly I get a severe shooting pain in my knee.I have seen my doc who is sending me to a specialist and arranged physio.what is a knee wash and what does it entail ,she also thinks my menisca is damaged.what treatment can I expect?
Avatar f tn Usually, these injuries ar treated clinically. Rest, ice, bracing, NSAIDs, and time. If the pain resolves, then no further action is taken. If pain persists, then an MRI arthrogram may be useful.
Avatar f tn a bakers cyst is a fluid filled sac in the back of the knee. inside your knee, providing padding on top of your tibia, there are two "pads" called menisci (medial and lateral) and by the report, it sounds like you have a tear to the lateral meniscus. a grade 3 tear is usually the worst. (grade 1, 2 and 3) truncated means 'short' so a short/small meniscus? (that would be my best guess:) i really dont know about the staying off the legs. and surgery...
Avatar n tn i have pain under both kneecaps and is painful to walk on but there is no pain when i bend either knee I have suffered no injury that would cause this and pain was in right knee first and now its both
Avatar m tn I have been having knee pain for quite some time now. Initially was taking it light, but recently got the same checked and MRI was performed. Dr.'s conclusion are as follow: 1. Grade 2C tear of medial meniscus. 2. Moderate to severe joint effusion distending the suprapatellar bursa with underlying osteoarthritic changes at knee. 3. Bone marrow edema is noted at the medial tibial condyle. Yet to meet my docter in two days.
Avatar f tn t think much of it, but now Saturday, I cannot straighten or completely bend my knee and I have nonstop pain all around my knee. I really need to know what is wrong as I am a Lifeguard and this is severely affecting work Also, my parents will not take me to the doctor as of yet. Thanks.
Avatar m tn When I landed, i felt a sharp pain in the middle of my left knee. I did not feel any popping, just a very sharp pain right behidn the patella. I didn't think anything of it that day, and it never bruised or swelled. I laid off the knee for the remainder of the week, but when i started lifting the next week, anything that put stress on the knee hurt. Squats, Legpress, Deadlifts, they all hurt right at the middle of the knee behind the patella.
Avatar f tn you feel pain at the side and in center of knee, the swelling increases day by day, limit your tendency to bend the knee, you may feel sharp pain while bending your knee and walking. The pain come and go anytime and anywhere. 3. Extreme tears: the pain moves in joint space, you must feel you are unable to straighten your knee and pain get worst. your knee become frail, swell and stiff. The pain lasts for a long time. If you have any of these symptoms, contact to a Orthopedist.
Avatar m tn Doc suggested me to go through the surgery to cut the tear. My knee pain is not so severe. I am able to walk with no issues but some uncomfort in the knee sometimes. My worry is Do I really need to go through surgery given my situation. Please please advice. I really appreciate your guidance here. Thank you.
Avatar n tn The previous MRI showed that I have a Medial meniscus tear. I was so happy to see that after 1 year, the Meniscus tear disapparead from the MRI report without doing any surgery or rehab. But this time I did the MRI on my both knees and it looks like I have some issue with my cartillage. Can you please help me understand how severe my case is and what I am supposed to do ? Surgery or just ignore it.
888841 tn?1242516603 Hello Toni, Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your knee pain. You are so young to have knee pain. I am far from an expert but the first thing that comes to mind in your situation is a Meniscus Tear. Meniscal tears are among the most common of knee injuries. They can occur without an actual "injury" to the knee. A simple turn or movement can cause them. They can occur at any age.
Avatar f tn I am a long distance runner, and have been for years, but recently have been having left knee pain. I had an MRI, which revealed a non-displaced longitudinal tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. I've also been having pes tendinitis and seriously tight hamstrings (biceps femoris) that feels as if there is an adhesion or deep bruise near the back of the knee (inferior portion of the biceps femoris).
Avatar m tn Also, when I wrap my hip flexor with ace wrap, I can play soccer with absolutely no pain while slide tackling and lifting my leg--it is only tight sometimes but no pain. My main concern that it is a labral tear is that there was a sort of popping sensation immediately before it started hurting, but that never happens when I wrap my hip. Does this sound more like a hip flexor strain or a labral tear?
Avatar m tn Hi, I suffered a fall twisting my leg. MRI showed an undersurface tear in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. The MCL was mildly thickened and edematous. I had an arthroscopy 3 weeks ago and the doctor said there was no tear. I am still having significant pain in the medial knee when standing up. Is it possible the tear was missed ? I'm not sure what to do. I golf quite a bit in the summer and I'm afraid with my knee pain I won't be able to. What do you suggest?
