6736456 tn?1384270917 Piriformis damage is more amenable to rehabilitation through exercise, although sciatic nerve compression from disc damage may also respond. You need an evaluation and an appointment with the physical rehab specialist who will prescribe exercises.. Your chiropractor is wrong. You have textbook symptoms of sciatic nerve impingement. The left buttock pain is definitive.
Avatar n tn Neuropathy of the lower extremities is more often a result of some compromise of the large nerve in the lumbar spine (sciatic nerve). The fact that you had complete loss of feeling right after your accident could be related to the traumatic impact and some contusion or bruising of the area, Considering that the numbness has continued for such a long time, it may be appropriate to obtain a neurological consult to determine if any compromise of the nerves exists.
1720100 tn?1309235532 Hi there. You could be suffering from a disc issue at the back or neck. Since you have both upper and lower limb symptoms, you need to be investigated for cervical myelopathy which means either degenerative disc disease, prolapse, bony spur causing nerve root compression or in progressive disease, may cause central canal stenosis which could be causing compression of nerve roots supplying both the limbs.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Burning sensation, numbness or tingling sensation in any part of body is considered nerve related in origin. This burning sensation you are having can occur due to impingement, irritation or compression of nerve of thigh. Most frequently involved nerve is lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (which is branch of femoral nerve). This condition is called meralgia paraesthetica which manifests itself as pain, tingling or burning sensation of outer thigh.
Avatar n tn What type of pain is this that hits the right knee abruptly even like lightning so swift, and travels from the knee straight through the thigh nerve and/or tissues, shooting straight to the joint of the thigh and groins that lasts at least one to two minutes. Sometime the pain is so severe even after it has left I can still feel the pressure it leaves behind.
611964 tn?1223767720 Hi. I just wanted to add that this nerve compression puts pressure on the sciatic nerve that runs from the lower back all the way through the gluts and hamstrings and calf even into the toes.
1961313 tn?1326290364 Do consult an orthopedic specialist at the earliest. Compression of nerve, deep vein thrombosis too could be causing leg pain or it could just be overtired muscles. So if nothing is found in the knee, then these possibilities will have to be looked at by nerve conduction studies, MRIs or by duplex ultrasounds. Take care!
1330225 tn?1275218398 ), diabetic neuropathy or damage to nerve after surgery etc. Another nerve which may cause pain in legs is sciatic nerve compression. I would advise a CT scan of spine and thigh, blood sugar levels, and EMG to check out abnormal muscle responses. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Well, without an evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of his knee pain. Possibilities include nerve impingement/ compression, neuropathy, referred pain from other regions, vascular issues, chondromalacia patellae, loose bodies, infections/ inflammations, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, cyst formation, iliotibial band syndrome, injuries to the internal knee ligaments/ menisci, patellar dislocation, bone growths/ tumours etc; just to name a few.
Avatar m tn My mother is 58 years of age. She has pain in her left knee for almost last one year and this leg is swollen for same period. We consulted various doctors (including ortho.) but there is no improvement. X-ray was done and she has been treated by doctors for crack in skin and infection, but there is no improvement. She can not put her full weight on right leg and can not move on stairs. There is small history of one injury in her legs.
Avatar f tn Another nerve which may cause pain in legs is sciatic nerve compression. I would advice a CT scan of spine and thigh, blood sugar levels, and EMG to check out abnormal muscle responses. Once the diagnosis is reached then treatment modalities available are strict rest, loose clothing, painkillers (NSAIDS and opioid), pain modifier medicines like carbamazepine may also be prescribed by the doctor. Therefore a neurologist’s consultation may help you in this regard.
Avatar n tn I think she is having radiculopathy due to compression of nerve at cervical level. This can be due to nerve compression or nerve impingement. This nerve compression or nerve impingement could be due to spinal disc pathology. Which all doctors you have seen so far? What does the doctor have to say about this? What imaging studies have been done? I think you should be seeing an orthopaedician at earliest and get imaging study done to see for any pathology.
Avatar m tn My wife is 35yrs, she has got severe pain in her left knee. Her MRI reports says, posterior disc protrusion at L5-S1 & left paracentral disc protrusion at L4-L5. THE QUESTION IS, PAIN IN HER KNEES IS DUE TO THIS PROBLEMS WHICH HAS BEEN REPORTED IN MRI?

Avatar m tn i have muscle a spasm due to which my lumbar spine has been straightened. although no compression on any nerve but i feel pain radiated to my buttocks and things some time . kindly suggestion me traetement of foot and back pain although i have been doing exercises recently and can any one tell me that the pain in my foot has caused pain in my back ? is it so??
Avatar n tn Just a thought, but pain in the knee could be nerve damage in the spine. Many people with spinal compression have radiating pain to and past the knees. Try going to a neurologist. They can do test to see where the pain originates.
Avatar m tn Hello! I'm 14 and I've been having knee pain for 2 years. One doctor told me it's growing pains but I don't really believe it, becuase I don't grow much anymore. The second doctor told me it's because I don't have enough synovial fluid in my knee joints and he offered me injections. I don't know what to do. What if there's something else that causes this pain? I've also got knock knees. Can this be the problem? Please help me!
Avatar m tn 30, with my gf and my knee got super tight and after another step a SHARP pain shot through it and I nearly fell. We had only gone about 4 miles and had warmed up properly and stretched, the weather was warm so I wasn't cold or tight when it happened. I have seen my medical department and they suspected ITB or Meniscus problems. However after about 2 months of aggressive icing, stretching, and physical therapy I can now run LESS and less before the pain comes back.
Avatar n tn I am a 46 y.o. female, symptoms include numbing sensation from just above right knee down to about mid calf, as well as some pain and occaisionally a heat sensation. Went to orthopedic dr, and he discovered on examination that I had little to no reflex in that leg. NCV test results were as follows: "Decrease in sensory amplitude recorded in left sural nerve. Increase in sensory distal latency in right sural nerve. Decrease in motor amplitude recorded in right tibial nerve.
Avatar f tn the pain is at the right side of my right knee, its situated near the fibula, not indicating that my bone is the one hurting, the pain is distinctive as it only hurts in a manner or form of a thread, the pain doesn't take up all of the right part of my knee, its just a thread shape pain that seems to extend from the femur down to the fibula.
Avatar m tn Since the problem is now localized in the lower extremity, the possibility of degenerative changes causing nerve compression has to be ruled out by nerve conduction studies. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, lumbar belts or even surgery.
Avatar m tn I have knee pain in my right knee when I kneel down on it.About a year ago the same knee for some reason unknown to me got very swollen & had to use crutches for about a week. Anyway when I kneel down it is like kneeling on a tack. Then it has a sensation of a rug burn to the touch. After about five times of this happening I looked more closely. On the right lower outer edge of knee cap it gets a swell pocket. It does not swell up the entire knee just this oval like shaped pocket.
Avatar f tn These are due to physical injury to the nerve like entrapped nerve or some direct pressure to the nerve or its spinal attachment. This sensation can also accompany diseases affecting nerves like neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, alcoholism and herpes zoster. You need to consult a neurologist for a clinical evaluation and investigations like blood test including blood glucose profile, MRI spine to check for any disc degeneration or herniation causing nerve compression. Wish you all the best.
Avatar n tn I have other pain meds that helps knee pain but not the skin pain. Nothing I have tried has helped it. Do not believe it to be a spinal problem. Just irritation from constant sitting. Like the idea about using pillows lifting the affected area off the bed for a while. Doubt I could go to sleep that way though. Will try. Will look into some of the others as well. Many thanks for all the ideas!!!
Avatar f tn I had a total left knee replacement Dec.18th.2007 and was wondering if having constant pain on the inside part of the knee is normal.Sometimes I also get a sharp pain there.Lately I've also been getting some pain shooting down the shin bone. This is new wasn't having that before my replacement. Also does everyones knee pop all the time.Mine does anytime the leg is moved I can hear it when I walk and actually with any movement.
1663373 tn?1333635989 I get the upper jaw pressure behind my teeth. I am post-op 41/2 months I never had very infrequently before surgery, but not its almost contstant. I also have tingling under my left eye, nose and up forhead. My NS says he doesn't know why. I think its from trigeminal nerve compression or the nerve that branches to it. During surgery, I did have a flattened nerve. I'm hoping its from it being stunned. I am on Neurontin too early to see if it works.
