Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain from impact

knee-pain

Avatar f tn At the time of the impact during my martial arts sparring session, my foot was planted to the floor when my knee jerked. There was no pain during the initial impact and just minor swelling the next day which went away as I practiced some more. It was only friday is when I was relaxing because of the swelling but still no pain with the expection of walking downstairs. Walking downstairs is where my knee feels a little tight and minor to moderate pain in the front of my knee.
Avatar f tn I never felt anything give or pop. On Tuesday, I woke up with severe knee pain. It feels really unstable and hurts when I walk.
Avatar m tn Hi Rob - Great - I can't wait to hear from a dr that "everything looks fine" when the shooting pain from the ankle to the knee tells me it's not. The pain level varies but most of the time it's a 10. My right tibial plateau was fractured 9-4-2004. After the external fixator was removed, a plate & 2 screws were put on (into?) my knee.
Avatar m tn When you are, then you could figure out the perfect suitable treatment method by just going through adequate knee joint prognosis. Knee pain can be due to various situations and might result in serious soreness inside the knee if not treated. The soreness won't only have an effect on your body, but it might also affect your way of life. Knee pain is caused by many reasons, including the aging process, pain through a car crash, and intensive athletic activities.
Avatar m tn I play street hockey and while running during a game about 2 weeks ago, I landed a bit awkwardly on my right foot. I felt like I had jammed or very slightly hyperextended my knee. The pain was moderate and after a day or so it was all but gone. I have suffered no 'real' injury from this, as I am able to walk, run, work out, etc. with no issues or loss of performance. However, since the event I've noticed that my knee aches after I play hockey.

Avatar m tn Hello, I'm looking for advice and insight into whether or not I should progress with a meniscal allograft transplant surgery to my left knee. I'm a 28 year old male and played competitive soccer continuously for 20 years until I tore my ACL. After the injury, I had an MRI and was told I had fully ruptured my ACL and also damaged the meniscus and had a deep lateral femoral bone bruise.
Avatar m tn Within 30 minutes I received massive localised swelling of the knee and by that evening I had a large clear filled blister above the impact site with a number of smaller blisters around it. Is this something to be worried about. There is localised pain and the knee is limited in movement as one would expect. It is now 3 days later and the blisters are still there (I have not attempted to drain them). I am on blood thinners and vaso dilators as well. Advice appreciated.
Avatar f tn I, then placed the (105°?) warm pad on my knee; wrapped my kneepad with plastic wrap (to keep the CO from staining the heating pad) and then wrapped a heating pad around the knee and set the temperature to Med. heat. I left it on for about 1 hour and when I removed everything, I did a ‘test walk’…not only was my knee not stiff, and the swelling was 95% GONE…all within the 1 hour treatment!!!!!
Avatar m tn my doctor said it was no biggie and i just needed to build up muscle well even after i built up muscle i was ice skating and my knee gave out and i broke my elbow, well then i was going down a water slide and my knee went out of place from impact of the water on the 3rd trip to the doctors he finally told me that i had knocked knees and i probaly wont be able to keep my knee from giving out again with out surgery.
Avatar m tn t know the cause of my knee pain my main complaints are obvious knee pain rt hip pain and mid back pain and clicking pain in my upper back I get numbness in my legs from sitting for no more than 5 mins and sometimes it is hard to move
Avatar m tn I really hope that the knee issue is due to limping and overexerting the knee, and that the joint pain is due to the anxiety that this situation has caused. I feel great in my overall health except from this. And when I dont think about it, say while talking to a friend, I feel NOTHING at all. Any experiences or tips would be very helpful. Sorry for the long post, I just felt like I had to let it all out...
Avatar f tn I tripped and fell full force and all my weight directly on my knee. The inital pain was like nothing I have ever felt. The next two day it was pretty sore but seemed fine for the most part. Fast forward 2-3 weeks later the pain comes back. At first it was like the pain on days 2-3. It is steadily getting worse. It’s as painful as it was the moment it happened. Insurance won’t approve MRI without a month of physical therapy. I’m afraid that all this time will make it so much worse.
Avatar n tn Ankle surgery and a fused ankle can indeed impact knees as you know. From this article: Ankle fusion is well-known for complications such as off angles, poor alignment and deformity, nonunion, and arthritis in the surrounding joints. Altered gait or abnormal walking pattern is typical with an ankle fusion. And of course, activities like jogging or running will never be the same if even possible. https://eorthopod.
Avatar m tn I really enjoy running but recently (about a week ago) I ran 3 miles, which is really nothing for me, but about the middle of my run, i had this really sharp pain in my left knee. This particular knee has had complications like soreness and tightness before. This time though, the pain was much worse. I ended up running an 8 mile route yesterday and once again, the pain was horrible. I had to try and "walk it off" but that seems to intensify the pain.
Avatar n tn This may have been caused whilst I was doing long distance runs as training for a marathon. I have been told to keep away from high impact activities such as running and was wondering whether rowing would come in to the category of a high impact activity? Should I keep away from rowing whilst I receive physiotherapy to help with the knee pain?
Avatar f tn So a few days back I hit the side of my knee into a planter box with decent force. The side of my knee hurts from impact but the under the kneecap area has also proven to be very mildly sore just from daily activities after. I'm suspecting that my ACL has been bruised and not entirely torn because it did not hurt as if it was torn upon impact. My burning question is can I still do weighted back squats and generally excersize it if this turns out to be the case?
Avatar f tn Also, every time I try to ride my recumbent bicycle to keep the partial knee replacement in my left knee from hurting, it sets off a whole wave of the shredding pains in my leg at night. I just saw a spine orthopedic surgeon who examined the MRI's and said they should not be causing all of the pain I was having. He diagnosed bursitis in both hips and because of the location of the pain in the groin area, ordered an MRI of the left hip.
Avatar f tn I was in a car accident about a year and a half ago. The dashboard caved in on my legs during impact and hit both of my knees really hard. They were both bruised pretty badly. Turns out, I tore the PCL in my left knee. On my right knee, there was just bruising. However, the bruise turned numb over time and is still there. There's no discoloration anymore, but there's still a lump. It's kinda like someone took a piece of fabric and sewed it in inside my knee.
Avatar f tn I have been running 3 miles a day fro 3x a week, until recently because i have been experiencing really aching pain in my knee and if i keep running it becomes really painful like i have torn something, and sometimes my knee gives way too, if i stop running and walk the pain wears off for a while, i have had an 6-8 week rest, but it still hurts when i try to bend my knee, it pulls really tight and hurts, haven`t tried running fully yet, sometimes the knee hurts really bad , it hurts in the back
Avatar n tn prior to the surgery i had throbbing knee pain in posterior right knee. they tried cortisone shots - 2nd one helped but wore off quickly. even after TKR i STILL have this pain. Cold weather intensifies the overall pain. i still have on going knee pain in general and doc says takes sometmes ONE YEAR before see difference. When they did the TKR they did clean up some scar tissue (had 4 prior procedures before having TKR).
Avatar n tn Cortisone injections are very common to give temporary relief from pain and inflammation. Because of its long-term side effects though, there may be a limit as to how many shots he can get during the year. Many doctors may also be reluctant to give more than a certain number of shots overall, and eventually recommend surgery as a more permanent solution. A lot will depend on how well your husband does with the shots.
Avatar f tn I was told by one position that I could not have a knee replacement unless they did a Fulkerson because my knee was not tracking properly. I now assume he was referring to a partial knee replacement. As I've been referred to a position for total knee replacement because the Fulkerson did not completely resolve my pain and improve my mobility.
Avatar n tn Initially, I found even climbing stairs to be difficult and used a walking stick and knee supports while waiting for my swimming to have an impact. Since then, I swim 5 times a week, for half an hour and that seems to help. It generally flares up with pain in winter, when I get lazy and don't swim as much, and when it is cold.
Avatar n tn d been having pain on the back of my knee, as well as on each side of my knee cap. My knee had been stiffening and locking if I climbed up more than a flight of stairs. The MRI came back last week, and I was told that it thankfully isn't serious, is inflamed in a few areas, to RICE it and to take ibuprofen. The impressions listed on the MRI were: 1.
