Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain from a downhill hike

knee-pain

Avatar m tn Hello, I have left outer knee pain when I try to pistol at about 45 degree squat and push weight and stretch knee outer side by crossing right knee. Pain is worsening when walking downhill. Its about three years. What the injury should be?
Avatar m tn If the pain comes on bending the knee as in walking step or running downhill or down a flight of stairs, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
Avatar m tn t initially concerned about the enlarged lymph node, explaining that it may have just been a lingering effect from a suspected tick-borne illness I had a year earlier that caused multiple nodes to swell much larger. Shortly after, I began noticing some pain and stiffness in the area, and significant physical activity would cause swelling between the hip and knee, as well as cause the muscles in that leg to tire quicker than the muscles in my right leg.
Avatar n tn On Monday my knee was feeling fine, on Tuesday there was a mild/medium pain, but later when I got home that day it flared up and I was in a lot of pain. Throughout the night from Tues night to Wed morning it hurt to extend it and it hurt to bend my leg. I took 800mg of ibuprofen to at least keep the swelling and pain down. I can walk on it, and keep it in a certain postition and i'll be okay, but full range of movement is not an option for me.
Avatar f tn After a run one morning my one knee felt a bit strange too so I decided to give running a rest. This was 2 years ago and I have not been able to run since. It was impossible to stop all other activity as walking was the way of life in this city and the nature of my job. My knee got worse without running. About a month or 2 later I went on a trip to Borneo and stupidly climbed the tallest mountain in SE Asia (a 2 day hike) mostly using the weight of my one leg.
Avatar f tn When sitting, sometimes my knee area aches and I have to extend it and put it up on a chair. But it is much better when sitting down. I have no pain from the hip down to the knee. It is the knee and the anterior part of my lower leg. Also I feel tingling in the heel of my foot. I do not have cold or blue toes...either... When I had my herniated disc L5/S1, the pain was sciatic and went down the whole BACK side of my leg.
Avatar m tn It started two days ago after finishing a hike with steep declines and seems to happen most with lateral movement. I can see it move when I lay down and bend my knee slowly and it appears to be a tendon (or vein or nerve maybe) passing over a bone. There is no sound when this happens. It does not hurt, but it is uncomfortable and my knee feels a little weak (although this may be in my head). It does not seem to be getting better or worse since I noticed it.
Avatar m tn t sure if this related since the time span between the hike and the pain is a bit too long which is 5 days. The pain kept switching between my right and left knee for about 2 weeks but NEVER experienced the pain on both knees at once. - May 14 severe watery diarrhea lasted about 5 days and always mostly in the morning after waking up and after eating. - Some time in mid-May I had drenching night sweat for one night. Had few other night sweats but very lightly. 3-4 times in total.
Avatar n tn I am not trying to sound morbid to scare you or hasty, I beleive you have a dog in trouble, dogs dehydrate quick, and too much pain in a dog will stress the heart and the heart can enlarge...it can only go downhill quick... Please try to contact the opinion of another vet!! Let us know, keep posting, so very sorry about your little friend distress w/the accident, hope you get the help you need!
Avatar f tn If clinical examinations and radiological studies have been normal, one may consider looking at other causes such as neuro-muscular issues such as neuropathies, myopathies, nerve impingement, referred pain from other regions such as the hip etc. Also is suggested on a clinical evaluation a bone scan may be helpful in identifying a few issues related to the bone. I would suggest seeing an orthopedician, preferably at a university or teaching hospital for a detailed evaluation.
Avatar m tn Two weeks after the marathon I did a half marathon and barely finished with a throbbing knee. From my readings it sounds like I may have both a meniscus problem and good old fashion wear and tear. I have numerous sharp pains that come and go, however not enough to effect my walking. I have some pain on the high inside part of my knee and that deep bruise feeling on the outside. Not to mention a little back of the knee pain that comes and goes. I have stopped running for 2 months.
999692 tn?1250637950 d need surgery to fix it. I need a knee brace and to do strengthening exercises so I can still hike, bike, and run. Any suggestions on braces that can withstand such abuse?
Avatar n tn Numbness of my left arm, twitching in neck, muscular twitches in lower legs, throbbing knee pain with a pulling in my left hip., changes in vision, numbness in head and face and one occasion of numbness in my tongue, persistant diarrhea for more than three days at a time at least twice a month. My stomach also feels very hard and I am very tender in my uterine and ovarian areas. And, oddly, sex is still painful even after 4 months.
Avatar n tn Hello, If you have total knee replacement you need to go for proper physiotherapy for long term and recover completely and you should limit the use of anti inflammatory drugs be it non steroidal or steroidal. Cortisione is a steroidal anti inflammatory drug. Take care!
1278937 tn?1271257811 I turned my ankle and fell pretty hard after a hike (bottom of the mountain/volcano on vacation.) There was a piece of the sidewalk missing and I fell off the side from turning my ankle, landed hard and rolled. Both knees and palms of my hands were cut/scraped and bleeding. (Fantastic!) My ankle is still a little sore - try to ice and prop it up. This is not as surprising as my left knee. It is still bruised on the kneecap next to and around the scrape.
Avatar f tn It is located around my knee caps and more often then not I feel more pain under my knee cap which is a sharp pain. My knees are both always swollen and hurt. Is there a reason for this? My doc told me to get ankle weights and do leg raises and that hurts even more than walking. Every year I go for my yearly physical when he bends twists and moves my right knee it has a popping sound like when people crack their fingers almost but it hurts. What can I do? I am desperate.
Avatar n tn I have a cut on the back of my right leg, on the outside edge, right where the knee bends. The cut is not deep, it's more that an area of top layers of skin about the size of a quarter of a dime was scraped off. It's been 8 days since the cut and it's only slowly healing. Given the location of the wound, even walking disturbs the area, even if only slightly. For faster healing, am I better off staying off my feet, or would a light hike of 1.
Avatar f tn I have had hip pain for months now and periodically have knee pain as well. I am not overweight and exercise/eat fairly well. I am worried about MS, diabetes, RA or even Lupus down the line. I know I need to do something besides popping meds. Can anyone relate?? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I went on a nice hike with my hubby and our dog.. I thought I'd be sore, feet or ankles would be swollen.. or even my sciatic nerve would be throbbing, honestly I feel so! Much better then I have. I thought I out did myself but did not. Walking did help! I feel awesome... Sorry had to share!
Avatar f tn You have to follow up with an orthopedician and discuss all options for conservative therapy and for this you would need rest and complete abstinence from all physical activities for 6-8 weeks. You have to wear a below knee cast, followed up by a knee brace. If it does not work in 8-10 weeks then you have to consider surgery for your ligaments rupture. Till then apply ice packs and do not flex your knee, which is not desirable. Start wearing a knee brace. Take care!
Avatar n tn As a matter of fact I found this forum this morning because I am home from work after being up all night with a throbbing pain and my mobility this morning is terrible. Even putting pants on was a challenge. I was wondering how quickly your knee pain progressed? It has gone from my least painful effected joint to by far the worst just in the past two weeks. Last night and this morning getting out if bed have been very scary for me.
1664773 tn?1321483545 Some of you know me as the girl who had chiari decompression surgery in March of 2010 and that plays football for her high school "boys" teams. I have not been on her in a while, due to things being pretty good.
Avatar f tn July '09 I slipped on gravel and twisted my knee as I was going downhill in a dogrun and I am still suffering; I had pysiotherapy immediatly and bought a tens machine, I ice and pedal my stationery bike; in April`10 started to feel it getting better and started to walk more and do more hsework and I am back to square one, it swelled up the next morning and ached like made I cannot stay like this after an xray I was told:- Joint space well maintained.
Avatar n tn Believe it or not, my van ran over my leg 3.5 weeks ago. Long story short: I thought I had it in park, but it was in reverse. I got out and it started rolling away backward downhill & I tried to chase it down the driveway. I never made it inside & fell, getting my left left run over by the front tire. Ouch, to say the least! Miraculously there were no broken bones, but of course LOTS of contusions, swelling and pain.
