Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain down stairs

knee

Avatar f tn Hello first of thanks for the help this site rocks :) So i have been having some really bad knee pain for about 3 years i just had a baby and it hurts so bad when I'm carrying him up and down our stairs. he is only 4 months old, but it fills like my legs are going to buckle from underneath me. they usually always hurt but more when I'm walking up and down the stairs. at night i drench my knees in icy hot.
Avatar f tn At first, it was just a little sore when I bent it--like to bike or go up and down stairs. By this morning, even just walking around caused pain. I feel it along either side of my knee and around the back, not really in/around my kneecap. It's a dull ache that turns sharp when the knee is bent a certain way. I've found that bending it at a 90 degree angle (like to sit down) doesn't hurt as much as bending it to say, a 45 degree angle (like to go up and down the stairs).
Avatar f tn I had gastric bypass surgery & now that ive lost 82 lbs, im having more knee pain than before the surgery. I would occasionally have knee pain when I was extremely overweight whenever going up & down stairs. Now that I ve lost the weight, my knees hurt more often & I have to be careful when stepping up or down stairs, or bending over to pick something up off the floor. Is this because im not working out at all?
Avatar f tn About 3 weeks or so ago I got up outta my chair to go upstairs and thought i was just sitting wrong because it hurt a little going up the stairs, but coming down the stairs it felt like the inside of my knee was just on fire and immediately swollen. i ended up dropping everything and almost falling down the stairs, being a mother with very limited transportation i just loaded up on tylenol and rode it out hoping i just pulled something...
Avatar f tn When sitting down there is no pain, and I can move my leg around with no pain while sitting. My knee pops occasionally but nothing new. I'm in the military, and I don't want to go to the doctor unless I have to so I don't lose a deployment coming up. Any advice is appreciated.
Avatar f tn He is concerned when he takes his braces off of a swelling/bump on the lower outside part of his knee cap. Coming down the stairs Saturday his knee gave way and he fell the last couple of steps down the stairs, this is worrying him. If I understand you correctly my husband knee could have arthritis in it and his x-ray and MRI would not show anything. Then how can they diagnose this condition? What questions should we ask the doctor? I look forward to your answers.
Avatar n tn Hi the best thing to do is have a talk to your Family Doctor he/she should do there best to help ease your pain , it may come to surgery , Please take care , x
Avatar m tn If the pain comes on bending the knee as in walking step or running downhill or down a flight of stairs, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
Avatar m tn Anyways, it hurts to bend the knee and walking up and down stairs causes slight pain as well. Any insight on the problem is appreciated. Thanks for your time!
Avatar f tn Lateral knee pain and after walking awhile the back of knee hurts. Pain worst when bend knee or go up and down stairs. Pain always there just worst when bend it. Pain has woke me up at night if sleep with knee bent. Xray snd MRI normal so orthopedic said PT and if pain continues come back in a month. PT has me in tears. Avatar m tn I'm 32 and I've never had any sort of leg, knee, or joint problem. Lately I've noticed that when I plant my left foot and pivot on it to turn my body to the right, my left knee makes a popping sound. In the last few days I've noticed that I can feel something move in the same knee when I walk down stairs. It feels like it's located to the left (outside) of the center of the knee. The right knee doesn't have any issues.
Avatar m tn Problem and pain in sitting - standing, up stairs - down stairs and walking .
Avatar f tn I have been told by my GP just to rest for a wk or two until the swelling goes down but it is still there as is the pain on the stairs. I have pain in the shoulder and lower back. I am trying to exercise as much as the pain allows but my walking is greatly affected at the moment. I hate being like this, both my mam and grandmother had osteo and rhumatoidarthritis. Any advice would be received with thanks, I hope you are well and have found a way to manage the condition.
Avatar n tn It seems to run along the edge of the knee cap. At first the pain was only when I walked up and down stairs and had to put all my weight on one knee but now I can hardly extend my knee without getting sharp pains on the inside of the knee. Also, not sure if this is relevant, but there is a painless bruise on the middle of my knee right below my knee cap and I have no idea where it came from. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn t really go up stairs that easily, as my knee starts to stiffen. I also am feeling a deep itching just above my knee on the front left exterior. The back of my knee feels really tender and is constantly at around a 5 on the pain scale. I'm trying to avoid bugging my doctor over nothing, since I'm a worrier, but my knee's hurting more and more sharply. Has anyone experienced this, or do they know if these symptoms are in line with the MRI diagnosis?

Avatar m tn I am a 53 year old male. About two weeks ago I was coming down the stairs and my knee locked up and I got this terrible biurning pain right where my knee joint and knee cap meet on the right side. I was in agony and could hardly put any weight on my right leg because it felt like it would give out. Then after a half hour or so the pain went away and I was back to normal. It happens every once in awhiile mostly while I am coming down stairs. What could this be and what could be causing it?
Avatar f tn About 2 months ago I fell down concrete stairs and landed directly on my knees (kneecaps). I landed on one knee harder than the other and that’s the one I’m referring to. It hurt pretty badly for a couple days, but I kept ice on it and rested it over the weekend and it improved dramatically. Now, it doesn’t hurt when I walk, but it hurts when I lean forward and put weight on it while it is bent. Like going down stairs or running. It also popped in ways it never did before.
Avatar n tn My knee twisted when I rolled over in bed. Now I can't go up or down stairs, nor can I put my weight on it while it is bent. What could have I have injured, and what would be the best knee brace for it? i think it's the PCL from websites I've seen.
Avatar m tn Squats, Legpress, Deadlifts, they all hurt right at the middle of the knee behind the patella. It also hurts when I try to jog and occasionally go down stairs. I saw an athletic trainer and he believes that it may be a bruised femure. I was wondering if anyone else had an opinion on this, and if they agree with the bruised femure, how long do you think this will last/are there any treatments I can do to speed the recovery process/can i do any form of cardio?
Avatar f tn Just fell down. I didnt hurt my belly at all but scraped my knee really bad ;/ ouchh o started crying soo much nd then i started to laugh when my boyfriend was putting me bandages lol has any one fell during their pregnancy ??
Avatar m tn The pain is excruciating if I am going down something, the right knee has gotten so bad I have to hop down stairs or declines. The pain is sharp and stabbing. What is it?
Avatar m tn Hello, the last few months, ive had pain above my knee cap, if i press on the muscle or tendor that seems to attach to the top of the knee cap, it is quite sore right where it connects to the knee cap, and when walking its ok, but stairs it really is sore, sitting down and getting up, kneeling. Ive tried applying heat to it, then stretching, then applying ice going for walks, stretching, seems to give temporary releif.

198727 tn?1352054382 Ill be going up the stairs and all of the sudden it feels like i spilled something on my knee. It can be either side. I will get to the top of my stairs and look down to wipe off my jeans...and there is nothing there that is wet. I have even gone as far as to pull my pants down to check to see if something has leaked out of my knee...because thats what it actually feels like...a leak in my knee? It happens 6-10 times a day now. The spasms in my face are still happening as well.
Avatar n tn My right knee clicks when moving down stairs. I have stiffness and pain in my right hip (particularly after running, but also when I don't run). Any ideas what I can do to fix this?
