Avatar f tn I have knee pain and swelling that comes and goes. I have been to an Orthopedic and have had x-rays and MRI. Nothing specific was noted in the x-ray and scan. The Dr suggested orthoscopic surgery to see what he might be able to do. I have not had the surgery. He also suggested I may have osteoarthritis. The pain will come with walking, sometimes very quickly and sometimes not much at all.
Avatar n tn I took 800mg of ibuprofen to at least keep the swelling and pain down. I can walk on it, and keep it in a certain postition and i'll be okay, but full range of movement is not an option for me. Also, it's swollen to the size of a softball.
Avatar n tn Basically we have two kinds of diagnosis. Torn or damaged miniscus of simple swelling and fluid acumulation due to strain. You need to see a physician for an in-person examination. Generally they insert a needle into the area and draw out fluid, and examine this to see if there is any blood. If there is no blood, drawing out the fluid usually ends the pain completely. If there is blood they suspect ba torn miniscus. This procedure is scarey, but relatively painless. Close your eyes.
Avatar f tn That you still have swelling, pain and a burning sensation in this joint three MONTHS post your fall is totally unacceptable. Since none of these symptoms have resolved in that time period, the only conclusion is that there is damage in the joint. That even your ortho, who I will assume was your surgeon, can't figure out what is wrong is pretty damn alarming!
Avatar n tn Ever since then I cannot knee on a certain part of that knee. If I do I get a sharp, burning, stinging pain that quickly subsides once off the knee. I can walk and run on it fine, and have not experienced any swelling or other problems. I cannot feel any abnormalities on the outside. The pain is on top of the knee. Even pushing on a certain area it is is sensitive. What do you think?
Avatar n tn On February 23, 2009 I had surgery on my right knee, now four months later i am experiencing swelling of my left ankle with pain and redness which is moving up my leg to the lower part of my shin. What is causing this.
Avatar m tn Any suggestions for going on 3 weeks of knee swelling/pain? thought I hyperexteneded my knee but now synvisc 1 shot may be the culprit. Waiting for xray results, wearing knee brace. Any thoughts?
1961313 tn?1326290364 I have problems with my knees, just general stiffness-but one day I had to get down on my right knee and the pain was extreme,it wasn't necessarily in the knee but to the right side of the knee,it felt like the skin was splitting into,I look and the skin looked fine,so I don't know if it's the tendon or the muscle what ever it is,is very painful,in fact I can't get down on my knees any longer
Avatar m tn I play street hockey and while running during a game about 2 weeks ago, I landed a bit awkwardly on my right foot. I felt like I had jammed or very slightly hyperextended my knee. The pain was moderate and after a day or so it was all but gone. I have suffered no 'real' injury from this, as I am able to walk, run, work out, etc. with no issues or loss of performance. However, since the event I've noticed that my knee aches after I play hockey.
Avatar f tn Hi there, A complete clinical examination is essential for correct diagnosis. There can fluid within the knee joint itself, or in the surrounding soft tissue. Acute injuries, anterior cruciate ligament tear, meniscal tears, ligament sprains all can lead to fluid or blood accumulation around the knee joint. If there is no history of trauma any infection in the knee joint can lead to swelling.
888841 tn?1242516603 Hello Toni, Welcome to MedHelp's Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your knee pain. You are so young to have knee pain. I am far from an expert but the first thing that comes to mind in your situation is a Meniscus Tear. Meniscal tears are among the most common of knee injuries. They can occur without an actual "injury" to the knee. A simple turn or movement can cause them. They can occur at any age.
Avatar f tn Pain in the back of the knee can be caused by arthritis or Bakers cysts (cystic accumulation of synovial fluid, also causes a swelling). So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint.
Avatar f tn Last year all I did was swing my legs out of bed and stand up when extreme pain shot through my knee. For the next 2 weeks I was limping and the pain was pretty severe. It started 5 years ago with pain going up and down the stairs. I saw an orthopedic and he told me it was overuse. Just 5 months ago I went to see him again and he ran an MRI and an X-ray. The X-ray showed nothing and the MRI showed thinning of the cartilage.
Avatar f tn There is a click sound when i bend my legs more than 90 degrees and while i squat, there is no pain or swelling or anything. after one squat when i loosen my knees , there is no clicking in the next squat. I can jump, runn, bend , run , play , hop as normal but clicking sound is awkward .
Avatar f tn s the left leg you should get checked for a condition that I have called May-Thurner Syndrome. It can cause pain behind the knee and thigh and heaviness in the legs whether you have DVT or not. This condition can also cause anxiety as well. May-Thurner can often be missed as a diagnosis especially if you don't have any swelling of the leg. I was having the same problem that you're having.
Avatar n tn Have the possibility of the original knee swelling being gout and the pain being a kidney stone been addressed? Uric Acid can form kidney stones. Gout can occur in joints other than the big toe. I take Alopurinol to prevent Uric Acid buildup. My knee gets affected more often than my toe. When I have a kidney stone, I get referred pain in my shoulder and radiating up my neck to behind my ear.
Avatar f tn Having recently torn the cartilage in my left knee and simultaneously diagnosed ‘with a little arthritis’ in the same, and with swelling behind the knee. My Sport’s Ortho said that the swelling was common with the torn cartilage but should go down in time. I began searching on the Web for a magical pain relief remedy (other than my already supplementation of Glucosamine Sulfate, Chondrotin, Taurine, Collagen, HA, Cats Claw, Bromelain, MSM, etc., etc., etc….
Avatar f tn My husband only is wearing the braces. For pain and swelling he just takes advil/motrin. His swelling is not bad when he wears his braces. He is concerned when he takes his braces off of a swelling/bump on the lower outside part of his knee cap. Coming down the stairs Saturday his knee gave way and he fell the last couple of steps down the stairs, this is worrying him. If I understand you correctly my husband knee could have arthritis in it and his x-ray and MRI would not show anything.

Avatar f tn Over the past 4 days I have been experiencing pain/Throbbing in my right knee. I do not recall doing any activities which may have damaged it in anyway. The pain feels like it comes from underneath my knee cap, slightly to the right. It throbbs when I am sat down, and if i move my knee left or right whilst my foot is on the floor I get a very sharp shooting pain which makes me jump.
Avatar n tn Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly. Then about 2 weeks ago I noticed my elbows were hurting. No swelling, but they get painful as they are today. Sometimes a couple of fingers hurt. Also, for the past few years my ear aches at night and I have to switch sides. The right side of my jaw hurts as well and I read that they were probably TMD.
Avatar n tn I have pain behind my knee and my leg is swollen in the calf. I was checked for blood clot and it was negative. I feel heat coming out of my knee when I place an ice pack on it. It warms the ice pack quickly. My thigh is swollen too, but all the pain is in my knee. It hurts to touch the bones in my knee. My ankles are a little swollen and also the calf on the other leg. I have had a meniscus tear and arthritis in one knee and baker's cyst in the other.
