Avatar n tn Hello sarabear and welcome to the Pain Forum: I think what you're experiencing is called Runner's Knee (Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome) The knee is a complex joint. It includes the articulation between the tibia and femur (leg and thigh) and the patella (knee cap) and femur. The most common knee problems in running relate to what is called the "patellofemoral complex". This consists of the quadriceps, knee cap and patellar tendon.
Avatar n tn I have looked for patterns to try to self-diagnose, such as hydration levels, with no success. The pain often begins in my knee as a dull ache that can be temporarily alleviated by putting pressure on the patellar tendon, but then will radiate into either my hip or ankle. NSAID's seem to help sometimes. However, today I woke up with excruciating pain in my quad. It is not a cramp because there are no knots on palpation and stretching does not help.
Avatar f tn I recently had an MRI of my left knee due to pain. I have the results of the MRI but I don't have an appointment until the 29th of April. Chondromalacia patella and chondral thinning along the medial femoral condyle. I was wondering if anyone might know what this result means. I can't get a sooner appointment and I'm really wanting to know what's causing my pain. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn According to what I read rest, and physical therapy are the main treatments along with NSAIDs for pain and inflammation. I don't understand why it is going to take a whole year to get into physical therapy? Perhaps you need to call a different place..unless where you are located you do not have access to this type of choice. Perhaps then researching this "runner's knee" or chondromalacia patella and seeing what others say might be a good start.
Avatar n tn The most common cause is chondromalacia which is also called Runner’s Knee. Chondromalacia occurs because of irritation of the cartilage on the undersurface of the kneecap.Prepatellar bursitis, patellar subluxation, knee cap dislocation all can lead to pain directly over the knee cap.Rest, antiinflammatory medications, application of ice to the knee all are very important for reducing the symptoms. If the symptoms persist or are severe it is best to see an orthopaedician.I hope it helps.
Avatar m tn Hello! I'm 14 and I've been having knee pain for 2 years. One doctor told me it's growing pains but I don't really believe it, becuase I don't grow much anymore. The second doctor told me it's because I don't have enough synovial fluid in my knee joints and he offered me injections. I don't know what to do. What if there's something else that causes this pain? I've also got knock knees. Can this be the problem? Please help me!

Avatar n tn Hello, About 6 months ago I started to do some running and after the first month or so started getting pain above my knee, so I stopped. Since then the pain hasn't gone away and I'm getting desperate now as nothing seems to work. The pain is at its worst when going down stairs, steep hills, or when I put weight on it such as in a lunge or squat. It's had periods of getting better then when I think I'm going to be pain free it always gets worse.
Avatar m tn Well, without an evaluation it would be difficult to identify the cause of knee pain in your case. Possibilities include chondromalacia patellae, tendonitis, bursitis, fractures, patellar dislocation, injuries to the internal knee ligaments/ menisci, infections/ inflammations, arthritis, cyst formation, bone growths/ tumours, nerve injuries etc; just to name a few. I would suggest consulting an orthopedician for an evaluation and appropriate management.
Avatar n tn The other area in which there is cartilage loss in at the outer part of the main thigh bone at the knee joint. However the rest cartilage disc in between the knee joint appear normal from this report. With regards to treatment, a lot of decisions are based on the clinical picture - how much this is affecting you and your activities and what the knee is like on examination. I hope this has been of some help and has answered your questions.

Avatar m tn I have knee pain in my right knee when I kneel down on it.About a year ago the same knee for some reason unknown to me got very swollen & had to use crutches for about a week. Anyway when I kneel down it is like kneeling on a tack. Then it has a sensation of a rug burn to the touch. After about five times of this happening I looked more closely. On the right lower outer edge of knee cap it gets a swell pocket. It does not swell up the entire knee just this oval like shaped pocket.

Avatar f tn Hi Melissa, Welcome to our Pain Management Forum. I'm sorry you are having increased pain on your vacation. It's not uncommon but it can be frightening. For those readers that don't know, chondromalacia patella — is a general term indicating damage to the cartilage under your kneecap. Obviously that cartilage is the cushion for our knees. Chondromalacia patella - also brings chronic pain in the knees. Your pain will increase with activity.
Avatar m tn I have been having knee pain for about 1 and a half months now and the doctor's said it's nothing with my bones. I still haven't had an MRI yet and my football coach thinks it's one of three things: Osgood-Schlatter's disease my growth plate is fractured. I forget the third one though. Right under my knee cap hurts when I do too much exercise. It almost feels like there is also a pressure in my knee. Can anybody tell me what they think is going on and if my coach is right?
Avatar m tn I would not advice you joint replacement at 48 yrs unless you have severe knee pain and disability to walk, etc.
