Barman with mystery pain in right knee mainly focused on the underneath the cap, no pain most of the time but after long shifts on feet, getting a stabbing and aching pain. Doesn't happen after sport when knee is most active. It tends to be when stood up and not moving.
Any Ideas?
I just had surgery less than a week ago for both lateral and medial meniscus tears on my right knee. It was really no big deal at all. surgery was on a friday and I was back to work monday. not much pain involved and I am aleready walking w/out crutches after 3 days. I have been avoiding surgery for about 5 years, and now I don't know why. My personal recommendation is to go w/ your orthopedic doctors advice.
The previous MRI showed that I have a Medial meniscus tear. I was so happy to see that after 1 year, the Meniscus tear disapparead from the MRI report without doing any surgery or rehab.
But this time I did the MRI on my both knees and it looks like I have some issue with my cartillage. Can you please help me understand how severe my case is and what I am supposed to do ? Surgery or just ignore it.
I am sitting here minus my right leg from above the knee. I had knee replacement surgery after they refused to fix the problem and caused me to spend 8 years becoming crippled and severely dependent on opiates. I have been told by drs. that cortesone injections speed up the degeneration of the meniscus (cartlidge) and help speed up the bone on bone situation that occurs when the meniscus is gone. One of the symptoms of that is bone spurs developing where it is bone on bone.
I have had three surgeries on my left knee, starting with an ACL reconstruction and medial meniscus repair my freshman year of high school, a lateral and medial meniscectomy my senior year of high school, and I just recently had the same surgery, a lateral and medial meniscectomy this past January, 2010.
I have been having knee pain for quite some time now. Initially was taking it light, but recently got the same checked and MRI was performed. Dr.'s conclusion are as follow:
1. Grade 2C tear of medial meniscus.
2. Moderate to severe joint effusion distending the suprapatellar bursa with underlying
osteoarthritic changes at knee.
3. Bone marrow edema is noted at the medial tibial condyle.

How are you? surgery for torn meniscus is done by two methods one is removal of damaged meniscus and the other is repair of the torn meniscus. In the former method there are more chances of developing arthritis and deformity in the knee.

I am a veteran when it comes to knee problems. Torn meniscus cartilage, 2 knee scopes (arthroscopic surgeries), and finally a total knee replacement. If your knee is swelling, especially in the morning after sleeping, it may be a torn meniscus cartilage. The older we get, the more brittle our cartilage becomes and the more prone it is to damage from impact, etc... I have had lots of injuries over the years but the knee had the worst pain of all.
The medial was much more damaged than the lateral. Surgery seemed to go well. No pain at all. After some weeks with therapy the knee still feels unstable laterally. Front to back movement was very good, Pain developed on medial side of knee and the patella tendon when walking. When I move the knee or walk I can feel it 'clicking" and 'shooting" pain from the patella tendon The Doctor says that there is still some swelling in the knee.
The surgery was only about an hour long and I was back to playing tennis about a month or two afterwards. You should really look into it! The procedure I had is called a knee arthroscopy. The doctor made three incisions and used scopes to repair the tear. So the scarring isn't too bad along with the recovery. Many people are able to walk normally a couple days after the surgery.
(Ortho guy says he hears this a lot in guys my age) Diagnosis after MRI of Torn Medial Meniscus. Surgeon wants to remove damaged part of meniscus which he tells me is in the area without blood flow. There was also a mention of arthritis. When I pushed for more information he said "arthritis consistent with your age". Don't quite what know what means. Anyway, here the questions.
I am 19 years old and I am having my third meniscus surgery. The first meniscus surgery the doctor tried to repair it but the meniscus ended up tearing again. For the second surgery the doctor removed 30% of the medial meniscus. And now I went to another orthopedic doctor to get a second opinion and it turns out that the meniscus is torn once more in the same place.
I had meniscus tear cut out. after 4 days, as my knee felt little better i had the worst ankle sprain/pain ever. It felt like every ankle muscle was going their own path and cramping. I just iced it for 2-3 days, kept elevated. Slowly the pain went away. My PT doctor told me that is common because of lack of blood flow. And once i started walking on it it was fine. Took good 8-9 days after surgery. ICE/gravity is your friend.

I have been trying to rehab the knee myself ever since the injury. I don’t think surgery would turn out well for me for the following reasons. 1) Dr. Wants to remove 80% of the posterior horn. 2) removal of 50-75% body/root. 3) some degree of ACL tearing (that will not be addressed). 4) high grade/full thickness articular cartilage loss throughout the medial compartment and elsewhere. I have occasional locking and catching of the knee and I walk with a cane.
I have bad arthritis in my knee. My ortho doc (after MRI) says I tore the meniscus but he thinks arthroscopy is a waste of my time and money since I have such thin cartilage. He took all the fluid out and injected me with cortisone earlier today. The pain is unbearable and the swelling is coming back already. Has anyone had torn meniscus with advanced arthritis and had sucess with arthroscopy. He says I am not ready yet for knee replacement.
Although swollen and a bit unstable I have No pain in my knee. However my achilles tendon is like a Charlie horse all the time on same leg. I fell off my bike right onto that knee. Now 2 days later I’m having shooting pains on my heel of the other foot It’s been 1 month since the fall. Is this normal? The pain in my tendon and now my other foot on the bottom of my heel. I know I have altered my walking but, drs say nothing about where my pain IS?!
