Avatar n tn Hello I had an accident where I fractured a part of the tibial plateau. In one knee. It's a simple fracture from what I gather, 4-5 ? inches long, but the x-ray wasn't precise enough for the Ortho. who requested an MRI with a 3-D reconstucted image. She said that if there's too much distance between the bones, too much loss of alignment, surgery will be necessary. Haven't sought a second opinion yet, but I'm wondering if there aren't alternatives to surgery?
Avatar n tn I can tell you that the more work you put into your recovery, the more you will get in return. Although I spent A LOT of time and energy on my knee rehab, I have never been able to get back to the way a was before. I think part of this is psychological. After spending so much time favoring your bad leg, I think you are always a bit weary to go full force on it. Did you have a allo or autograft? If auto, was it a hamstring graft? That also makes a difference in your recovery time.
Avatar m tn I have had knee, hip and back x-rays, MRI scans on my back and hip, two knee operations for mild CMP and a lateral release. I have also seen a chiropracter and had a bio-mechanical assessment (othotics req'd). Nothing was found, joint spacing etc fine except for some fraying of the cartilage on the posterior lateral aspect of my patella. The lateral release was to see if it could alieviate the pain and give the IT band some laxity.

229857 tn?1319029907 BUT it really depends on YOU, how to cope with anesthetic, recovery time, going home from hospital, if you have someone to do your laundry, cleaning etc for a few days. No lifting for at least 2 weeks. Provided you are on the right dose of medication you shouldn't gain weight. That really is an old fashioned idea stemming from back in the 60's etc when the doses were not given correctly and people suffered badly.
Avatar n tn Following ACL surgery, the patient enters a rehabilitation program to restore strength, stability, and range of motion to the knee. Recovery time varies, with a period from about 6 to 9 months representing the average People heal differently from one another and a variety of factors influence recovery, including the presence of associated injury or disease and the amount of time the patient has to commit to a physical therapy program.
Avatar f tn The pain is usually felt in the whole knee area, predominantly in the front, along with increasing stiffness and effusion in the knee joint. With advancing time patient will not be able to put weight and diminished motion in the joint. Diagnosis can be made with the help of X-rays. Revision operation can be considered if there is unbearable pain, progression of osteolysis and loss of function. If left untreated loosening can lead to repeated fractures.

Avatar f tn i can not walk arond a store without the foot and ankle and knee swelling so bad. cant do stairs, bend knee, get on the knee, or evan keep it srait for long periods of time. i want to know if this is normal? i seen my ortho surgeon who did the surgery on april 30 2009 and he now says he does not know whats wrong. i asked for a second opion and he said i could not have one. what should i do? and how do i get this fix so im not disabled all my life for im only 29 right now.......
182884 tn?1259312906 All other things being equal, recovery from an ACL reconstruction should not be longer based on an older injury. If anything, the reverse would be true because a more recent injury will still have swelling that ideally needs to disappear before an ACL reconstruction can be performed. An older ACL tear means the leftover ACL parts would have dissolved over time, there'll be less to clean up on the inside of the knee, and there is no injury swelling to deal with.

Avatar n tn The week before my swelling arose, I was very constipated for about 6 days and was hardly able to pass any stools. I have several questions about my condition, recovery time, and swelling. My Epididymis is still slightly swollen and hardened almost, it is not very painful however I sometimes have a very acute pain. My Vas Deferans (sp?) is very slightly swollen still however I feel no more pain in my groin.
Avatar m tn Hello, current surgical techniques such as arthroscopies and current post operative regimens, such as early mobilization have made most knee operations more patient friendly. Doctors are also more attuned to pain and are more eager than ever before to find ways to minimize it. Persistent pain following surgery can be due to a hematoma. Admittedly, there are times where persistent pain does not have an obvious cause. MRI can help in finding some lesion which might be causing pain.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation on August 19th, I had decompression surgery on sept the 4th. Recovery is going well.
