Common Questions and Answers about Knee operations patients

operation

Avatar n tn Hello I had an accident where I fractured a part of the tibial plateau. In one knee. It's a simple fracture from what I gather, 4-5 ? inches long, but the x-ray wasn't precise enough for the Ortho. who requested an MRI with a 3-D reconstucted image. She said that if there's too much distance between the bones, too much loss of alignment, surgery will be necessary. Haven't sought a second opinion yet, but I'm wondering if there aren't alternatives to surgery?
Avatar f tn Patients with a loose total knee joint limp. The pain is usually felt in the whole knee area, predominantly in the front, along with increasing stiffness and effusion in the knee joint. With advancing time patient will not be able to put weight and diminished motion in the joint. Diagnosis can be made with the help of X-rays. Revision operation can be considered if there is unbearable pain, progression of osteolysis and loss of function.
Avatar n tn I had to have total knee replacement on my knee in 2003 now after 3 operations I am left with a partial bent knee and missing out on life. Is there any hope for me?
487443 tn?1208839512 I also found some surgeons treated autism patients by neurosurgery operations. I wonder whether neurosurgery operations are really effective for curing infantile autism and this kind of therapy is mature. Any risks exist in neurosurgery operations? Any successful cases around the world? After the redundant nerves are cut off, is it possible for them to revive after operations? Hope for your replies! Thanks a lot!
Avatar m tn sounds so to me my aunt keep getting operations on her knees one after the other as soon as they replce her knee thngs were alot better she said she ws in less pain an was wlking pretty much the next day
Avatar f tn The third operation will carry the most risk. Typically, the first surgery has a very low risk on the order of a couple of percents. The second operation will probably carry a risk of about 5-10 percent and the third usually greater than 10%. Everything has to age adjusted and of course the older age probably increases all these risks by about 5 to 10%. So overall, your dad's surgery will probably carry a risk of about 10 to 15% for death and other major complications.
2015036 tn?1332997788 Percutaneous surgery for patients with MS-TN is less likely to provide pain relief than similar operations performed for patients with idiopathic TN. New trigeminal deficits did not correlate with better facial pain outcomes, supporting the concept that many patients with MS-TN have centrally mediated pain.
497951 tn?1209829733 I have knee problems and will most likely need a knee replacement on my right knee eventually. Also, I have heard the excuse about *scar tissue.* I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right wrist in Oct. 2007, and it still bothers me and the doctor blamed it on scar tissue. I don't know. I'll be honest, I don't really know what to tell you. I have a lot of joint and muscle pain and other problems with blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.
Avatar n tn three operations-2 on r/knee with removal and 1-on left knee-pined togeather.
Avatar f tn I hurt so much, but I read that vicodin can kill your appetite. I have had 5 surgeries in 15 months. Cut from my waist to my knee on my right side. I was dropped in the hospital, and they shattered my hip, femeral neck, and whatever else is in there. Thanks for the ANA info. i guess I'm coming back positive.

647391 tn?1275016633 This is because of damage to the knee and missing cartilage. What is your thoughts as to someone my age having knee replacement surgery. Also, what is the quickest recovery you have seen for someone with knee replacement surgery?
Avatar m tn im 44 6 ft 5 325, Ive had 7 operations on my left knee. ACL repaired and both cartlidges removed. I cannot stand more than a couple of hours because of the pain. 18562852 tn?1465864643 Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation...I am male and just turned 32. Because of my young age my attending Cardiologist is concerned I may have some form of heart disease. Both my stress test and my cardiac ultrasound results came back good (negative). Should I leave it at this or should I be tested further with a CT scan and or MRI...which I believe he may want to do.
Avatar m tn Hello, current surgical techniques such as arthroscopies and current post operative regimens, such as early mobilization have made most knee operations more patient friendly. Doctors are also more attuned to pain and are more eager than ever before to find ways to minimize it. Persistent pain following surgery can be due to a hematoma. Admittedly, there are times where persistent pain does not have an obvious cause. MRI can help in finding some lesion which might be causing pain.
Avatar n tn The total knee replacement operations have become quite commonplace, and often have good results. Be advised that there are a number of different "total knee replacements" out there from a number of different surgical supply companies. And it is no great secret that many surgeons choose a new model and you are the first patient they work on with that particular replacement knee. There is a set of tools to go along with each type, which are sometimes lent by the manufacturers rep.

Avatar f tn I have never flown before and I have terrible ears (ear infections since the time I was born, operations, tubes inserted, the whole 9) So I thought my ears and equilibrium was the cause. After a day of rest after the flight I seem to be ok.. I noticed on 2nd day in mexico I had this spotted rash on my lower portion of my body, thinking it was a heat rash I took full cover for shade.
Avatar m tn I’ve had problems with my knees since 2014 am 25lbs. Weight got thrown on my knee. It didn’t break or anything. My has bothered me over the years but recently it’s worse. I movies into a house with stairs and when I walk or run up the i feel a ripping sensation in my knee. That’s the only way I can describe it. It doesn’t hurt on impact it hurt when I take off so to speak. Also when I have my knee bent for a long time it’s very hard to straighten it.
Avatar f tn NEW YORK (AP) — Two more drugs from a specialty pharmacy linked to a meningitis outbreak are now being investigated, U.S. health officials said, as they urged doctors to contact patients who got any kind of injection from the company. The New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Mass., has been under scrutiny since last month, when a rare fungal form of meningitis was linked to its steroid shots used mostly for back pain.
Avatar n tn About ten years ago I developed this morning anxiety, and for the exception of a few months here and there because of knee replacements and other operations (I guess the pain took the place of anxiety) I have had it EVERY morning. My thyroid has fluctuated horribly for the past eight or so years and is still doing so. I have a physical in two weeks and am going to request a trial on Armour. Needless to say it gets me down horribly.
Avatar n tn I was told at that time that my right knee is not as bad as the left. However, when I showed my right knee last month this year I was told that I need full knee replacement. The surgeon recommended Otisknee replacement procedure. Is it possible that my right knee can deteriorate in onr year to have full replacemnt as opposed to partial. What are the reports on Otisknee replacement procedure. What are the pros & cons of partial replacement versus full replacement.

Avatar n tn It is fourteen months since the operations and I am fully recovered except for the pains I have in the middle of my chest (on the bone) that travels to the right breast when I make a sudden movement. The doctor who performed the operations said there is nothing to worry about. But I am not so sure and would like to know more about this pain and whether I can do anything about it. Can you help? thanks washingtone17 This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn When I walk I get pain in the shin (tibia), calf, and Achilles tendon, and when I squat I get pain in my knee and sometimes tibia. I can also feel the top of my tibia moving when I walk sometimes. Please let me know what is the treatment for a dislocated tibia? Is there anything that can be done to get the bone back into its proper place? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Conclusions While numerous sources of information are available to patients contemplating treatment of hip and knee arthritis, the majority of individuals in our cohort relied on information from their physicians, family and friends. Only a third of patients reported using the Internet, and few relied on medical journals. These findings suggest that orthopaedic surgeons continue to have a leading responsibility in educating patients about treatment alternatives for hip and knee arthritis.
