operation

Avatar m tn i have recently had a knee operation to fix the cartilage. on investigating they found that my femor and knee cap was in a bad way and worn and in time i will need a knee cap replacement, however thankfully not at the present time. Iam a fit person who teaches amrtial arts. My problem is that it has been weeks since my operation but the knee is still badly swollen and sore and i am still struggling to straighten it and bend it behonf 40 degrees..
Avatar m tn Recently, after running and following my stretching regime, I have experienced tightening of the knee in question, and then the following morning a swelling at the back of the knee on the medial side appeared. It seems to clear within a couple of days, and in fact does not always return following further running or walking. Do you have any inclination whether this is common following a cartilage op. and do you consider they are even necessarily related? Thanks for your attention.

Avatar f tn My husbabn had double partial knee replacement surgery on February 23 and has done remarkably well finishing the physical therapy in three weeks and down to 1 or 2 vicodin a day. This morning the right knee is swollen and very stiff and he is in a great deal of pain. We have been icing but he could hardly make it to the bathroom. A Vicodin and Vistiril have helped but we are troubled by this event. Anyone experienced this at the 6 week point?
Avatar f tn 7 months back Ortho Doctor advised for knee replacement(TKR) and admitted to hospital but because of hard swelling in right side of the knee they did a small operation and removed the the hard swelling. It got some infections and because of Diabetes it took long time to heal and Ortho doctors are not giving care for healing the wound. The joint pain got increased and my father is not able walk at all. We went and consult a General Medicine who is specialist in diabetes care.
Avatar n tn three operations-2 on r/knee with removal and 1-on left knee-pined togeather.
Avatar m tn I am trying not to have the operation as I have heard some good and some about knee operations.
Avatar m tn ve only just started playing again after my last operation on the other knee and have worked hard to get my fitness and skills back up to a decent level - more surgery know would devastate me. Does anyone have a diagnosis for this? Any ideas, info, insight, advice and suggestions would be extremely appreciated and welcomed.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have a torn anterior cruciate ligament already diagnosed and I am waiting an operation. I had started running again and fell badly, with my knee this time going in a sideways direction. I do have concerns that I may have now also damaged one of my collateral ligaments. However, my immediate concern is that it has been over 2 weeks since I re-injured my knee and today a number of large bruises have appeared on my injured leg.
Avatar m tn Hello! I had left knee surgery in November of 2013 because my knee would swell from time to time from too much activity so it would hurt and be really stiff for a couple days then the pain would go entirely away with little rest. My surgeon said the only thing he could find was that my knee cap shows some wear and he cleaned up a few things but really was nothing for him to fix! Well, from the day I got out of surgery till today (8 months) my knee has been hurting non stop 24-7!
Avatar f tn My dog had two knee surgeries this year. One was a TTA to repair her ccl. Then while healing from that they discovered her patellar tendon was torn so we repaired that. Now her knee is fine but at vet yesterday they found that the wire used to repair is exposed on outside of her knee. There is no infection or even sore skin. It’s just slowly becoming more and more exposed. How can this be fixed? Our appt with surgeon is in one week. Is this an emergency?
Avatar m tn Put those two things together and what is PROBABLY going on is, subsequent to being shot and going through what must have been a horrendous operation, not to mention quite risky considering how close the wound was to your spine, this created a bunch of swelling, which is very typical after an operation of any kind and can go on for MONTHS, and this swelling will block normal fluid passing in and out of your legs, and will block transmission of nerve impulses since it's undoubtedly pushing
Avatar n tn My dad, 78 years old, lives on his own, has always been very active, tennis and walking, had prostate surgery about 4 weeks ago; the other morning he tried to stand up and fell down, he was taken to emergency room and then admitted to hospital - they still haven't determined medical problem and he still cannot walk - they want him to start physio, however, he says he cant walk - it's his right leg - he has a pain in his lower back down the back of his leg to his knee.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have had 3 arthroscopies on my left knee to repair my lateral horn meniscus in September 2009, January 2014 and March 2015. Each time after the operation and recovery my knee begins to feel good and strong again. After 1 and a half year since my last operation my knee has felt great, however 5 days ago I squatted down (asian squat toilet), and instantly knew I had torn the cartilage again. Since this moment my left knee has a constant ache/throb.
Avatar f tn I had a total knee replacement on my right knee on 10/22/09. I am 44/female. I have had 8 operations on this knee prior to the TKR. I have had bad knees and ankles since I was very young. Was still very active despite this. Played ALL the sports in high school college etc. So in general understand knee pain / how tough PT is and have developed a high tollerance for pain. Had the TKR on a Thursday...left hospital on Sun....

Avatar f tn I am trying to reduce the swelling in my knee. I had surgery 11/10/10, and have had some success with PT and TED hose, but need to get the rest of the swelling down because it is impeding my ROM. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I would like to know when the arthirits starts swelling and you have to get drained..(knee) is there something they can give you or do to help the pain? I can't take getting my knee drained anymore! They do deaden it..but that is a joke!
Avatar n tn It can be probably due to some sprain or strain to tendons or ligaments in your knee joint. It is mandatory to rest the affected knee and also to apply ice packs. Continue ibuprofen for 3-4 days and also wear a knee support or brace. Do not exert and do not do any weight bearing. If the pain and inflammation continues then you have to go for some scans and follow up with an orthopedician for a proper examination and diagnosis. Take care!
Avatar m tn In June of 2007 I was conducting a training exercise and I hurt my knee. I was running on a cement surface and tripped. All my weight landed on my left knee. It hurt immediatly and within a few minutes had swollen to twice its size. I could not put ANY weight on it and had to be carried. The corpsman checked me out and said to ice it and rest. I spent the rest of that training operation laying down on a portable cot with my leg elevated and iced.
Avatar f tn I had my right knee TKR in June 2010, I cannot recall what the pain was pre-op, but I do know that it is very bad and has been since surgery. I have fairly good function with the knee and am able to do the work I love (I would be very depressed to lose that) but work is the whole of my life as it HURTS during the work day and it takes the rest of my day to 'recover' somewhat. I have pain in the night quite often and pain upon waking.
Avatar f tn After almost a month, it didn’t seem as if the inflammation was going away as we had expected it to. We went to his 6-week post operation appointment with his ortho surgeon & he still didn’t seem too concerned about this swelling, but went ahead and ordered an vascular ultrasound just to rule out a blood clot. Went & got that test done, everything looks great, nothing to worry about with a blood clot.
Avatar f tn I am now being sent for bone scans of hip, groin, spine and knee. I still have the left knee pain which the orphapedic said may need an operation see what the bone scans show up. I am so worried about cancer i dont know why but i am so scared that this pain in my knee is something bad like a tumor. I have no swelling and it is tender to touch the bones on my knee. The pain is over the outside of my knee cap not the bottom its more at the top and sides. Please please someone help.
