knee

Avatar m tn You can flex and extend you hip joint. and in the same way other movements of the knee joint also would be taught to you. You should go ahead only after knowing your healing status and under the supervision of the Physiotherapist initially. Take care!
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying. My doctor has made no official diagnosis but asked me to bend and flex my knee and leg this way and that. She said that my knee joint is a bit loose. I'm getting an x ray to find out and physio but I'm still waiting on both of these letters to get to me. I'll use the codeine and I have laxatives at home. I've been drinking more water lately so a bit more might help.
Avatar n tn The most common reason for knee or joint stiffness is due to immobilization of the leg due to various reasons like accident, fracture of other bones, ligament tear in other parts etc. I would suggest you physiotherapy as a cure for this and if it does not work or if you have other symptoms in your knee then go for an MRI and diagnose the problem and consult an orthopedician. Take care!
Avatar m tn Persistent or uncontrolled hypothyroidism can cause joint afflictions. However bilateral knee joint stiffness can be due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis or tendonitis. Hence it is important to consult an orthopedic specialist. To start with both the knees need to be X-rayed, and RA factor and antinuclear antibody (ANA) levels detected in blood. If nothing is detected then MRI may be done. Take care!
Avatar n tn It may be a torn meniscus. I have joint stiffness in my knee as well as pain along the inner bone and a little swelling on both sides. My PM doctor thinks it's a torn meniscus because my xray showed some inflammation. I also have the other symptoms you have. The muscle behind my knee aches and the pain is worse when I'm not moving. I thought mine was arthritis as well but the xray proved otherwise. I just had an MRI done so I'm waiting to see if I need surgery.
Avatar f tn I had already been having a problem with my sternum/clavicle joint, before my Tx, and my mother also has an arthritic bump in the same area, so I did think my shoulder pain prior to Tx may have been RA related, but didn't look into it. Once on Tx, I began to have joint pain, in the hip and knee. It would come and go, and it was accompanyed by muscle weakness in my legs, and I had trouble walking. After Tx, it went away, for the most part.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?
1176578 tn?1263753089 Over the past year I began to experience joint stiffness in the mornings. I am now at the point where the stiffness has gotten so bad it wakes me up in the night when I try to move after being in any position for a prolonged period of time (usually waking up every hour to stretch the joint out). As a result I am exhausted most of the time. The stiffness lasts for a couple of hours but comes back quickly if I sit in one position for any length of time.
1961313 tn?1326290364 Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. You will need X-rays and MRIs of the knee to find the exact. Treatment will follow correct diagnosis. Do consult an orthopedic specialist at the earliest. Take care!
Avatar f tn The pain is usually felt in the whole knee area, predominantly in the front, along with increasing stiffness and effusion in the knee joint. With advancing time patient will not be able to put weight and diminished motion in the joint. Diagnosis can be made with the help of X-rays. Revision operation can be considered if there is unbearable pain, progression of osteolysis and loss of function. If left untreated loosening can lead to repeated fractures.
Avatar n tn i had the same op in April 2009 and also suffer from ankle/heel pain back pain and stiffness in the knee joint aint life wonderful
Avatar m tn Excessive exercise may traumatize the joint which may lead to further worsening. On the other hand, immobility may lead to joint stiffness and disuse atrophy, further complicating the condition as well. Hope this information was useful. Take care!
Avatar n tn With the symptoms that you have mentioned, I feel it is a case of damage to the knee joint due to over use. There could be damage to the joint surfaces or due to overuse reduction in the amount of synovial fluid present in the joint causing friction during movement and damage to the cartilage. Also with the history of pains since childhood there is a chance of chondromalacia. Chondromalacia refers to a softening of the cartilage under the kneecap (patella).
1393879 tn?1288725449 Another reason is rheumatoid arthritis but this has been ruled out in your case. Tendonitis or bursitis of the joint too produces similar symptoms. In the knee joint an injury to menisci can be the culprit. It can also be a muscle injury locking the knee. Generally conservative treatment should help. Anti-inflammatory drugs, alternate hot and cold fomentation should help. Maybe you should get a MRI of the knee joint. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Take care!
Avatar n tn I will be sleeping on my side and wake with excruciating pain, as if an ice pick is driving through the side of my knee (interior side) and into the joint. I cannot straighten or bend my knee at this point without using my hands to manually move my leg. I am taking Aleve to no avail. I am writing in hope for some thoughts or ideas as to what I might be dealing with. Thank you in advance for your time.
Avatar f tn Warm water relaxes tight, stiff muscles in your legs and eases any stiffness affecting your knee, ankle or hip joints. Try taking a dip in a warm hot tub or a soothing soak in your bathtub. Massage your leg muscles. Press down firmly on your stiff leg muscles, and rub them using a back and forth motion. Try using a hand-held massage device to penetrate deeper into your muscle tissues, allowing the vibration to loosen up any tension. Try using a foam roller bought at any sport store.
Avatar m tn Moreover, yesterday my doctor injected depo-medrol on my infected joint. And today my knee is extremely swollen and stiff, more than ever. I can barely bend my knee to 90 degree. My question, Is this swelling and stiffness normal after being injected with depo-medrol ? Or is this a side-effect ?
Avatar f tn During ACL problems or during any of the ligament problems at the knee joint you sure have stiffness at the ankle joint due to restriction of movements. Ice packs at the ankle joint will also decrease the pain and inflammation. I would suggest you to take intermittent pain killers and also do some exercises at the ankle joint.
Avatar f tn Often after having your joint drained, the fluid will accumulate again. I hope that your knee will not fill up again. I am sure it is painful when it does and the procedure does not sound like fun. How long have you had PsA? How long did you go between the two draining procedures?
Avatar f tn It is now 4 weeks since total knee replacement and I am finding that though I have the usual pain and knee stiffness my ongoing nagging problem is hip pain especially at night can any one advise or know when its likely to cease - its really very painful.
Avatar m tn However, she is experiencing knee stiffness in both knees. Could this be related to the problem in finding the correct dose? Would it be helpful to see an orthopedic doctor?

Avatar m tn I have been experiencing joint pain, muscle pain, cramping, swelling and stiffness in my left leg for over a month - in my knee, behind my knee and in my calf. It is worse at end of day. It often feels as if my leg won't support me when I stand from a sitting position. I do not recall injuring my leg. I have tried heat & ice packs and massage - all of which offer some temporary relief.
Avatar f tn do you think there is a possibility that i could have torn the articular cartilage agian? it feels like it did before the surgery.
Avatar n tn That has resolved but starting suddenly 2 weeks after the last procedure, he has severe, generalized joint stiffness and pain. His right knee is swollen and very painful. The only thing new since his angioplasties is that he was placed on Plavix. Could this be from Plavix? Would this have anything to do with the allergic reaction?
Avatar f tn Does anyone experience joint discomfort? Began treatment 3 wks ago and the stiffness in my joints are not necessarily after the injections, but since treatment began.
