Avatar n tn i had a new knee joint fitted 3 weeks ago ,i only have 60 percent movement back how can i get more movement
Avatar m tn One of the key components of your rehabilitation programme is pain-free strengthening of your quadriceps, hamstrings and gluteal muscles and also your calf to improve the control of your knee joint with weight-bearing activities. Discuss with a physiotherapist, learn and practice these at home. If you want faster recovery and do not want to wait for conservative treatment then go for arthroscopic surgical repair. Take care!
Avatar m tn Well, usually most bones that form joints have a cartilaginous cover that protects the bone and aids in smooth movement and joint lubrication. A cartilaginous defect with loose body formation could result in joint inflammation and effusion along with movement abnormalities. While mild defects may respond to rest, ice-packs, anti-inflammatory medications and physiotherapy; severe cases or larger defects may require interventions for cartilage regeneration/ repair and removal of loose bodies.
Avatar m tn About two weeks ago I was coming down the stairs and my knee locked up and I got this terrible biurning pain right where my knee joint and knee cap meet on the right side. I was in agony and could hardly put any weight on my right leg because it felt like it would give out. Then after a half hour or so the pain went away and I was back to normal. It happens every once in awhiile mostly while I am coming down stairs. What could this be and what could be causing it?
Avatar f tn s a pretty significant white mass in between the joint (Between the bones), I have no idea what it is, but it is where the little black meniscus triangle on the left side should be (like a bone?).I feel like sometimes my knee might give in, sharp pain with movement, pain when stretching and knee sore to touch (top left, below knee cap, lower right side). My follow-up to review the results of MRI is in 4 weeks and I'm in a lot of pain... besides P.R.I.C.E.
Avatar f tn Hi there I fell down some stairs back in sept 09 twisting my right knee. At the time i felt someting "go" in my knee. By the next day it was swollen and i could not do any movement at all with it. As i was on holiday in a remote cottage i just applied RICE . I could not lift my knee on to the stool, had to do it manually and once in bed had to stop in that position, cause any movement was agony.Once home i bought a knee support and hoped with time it would improve.
Avatar f tn I have hashi and joint pain, muscle ache, stiff body, frozen shoulder. You get a feeling as if joints are connected in a crude manner. When you have prolonged pains like this, our brain tries to avoid any movement that can cause pain. This kind of makes you less mobile and lethargic...
378273 tn?1262097621 Usually these two should be able to maintain your knee movement with minimal pain. You could also take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory as and when required. Sometimes debridement of the torn ligament and damaged cartilage helps reduce the pain. However, yes, it is not a permanent cure. Please consult all aspects of an arthroscopic surgery with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
1083310 tn?1260107282 The first time it was like the difference between night and day. It helped with the pain (I have osteoarthritis in knee) and made movement tons easier. It worked well for over 6 months. However, on the second injection I became allergic to it and my leg from just about two inches above my ankle to about 4 inches above my knee swelled so much the skin was more than taunt and it was red. (Can't have anymore of the synvisc.) Trying to hold off on knee replacement as long as I can.
Avatar m tn my knee is not locked. I am able to walk but feel small popping in twist movement and pain start again for around 1 hour. what happen if I will not go to arthroscopic surgery. I am asking because after arthroscopy, early arthritis will come. my age is 34. I am scared.
Avatar m tn Symptoms include pain along the inner or outer side of the knee, stiffness, swelling, and sometimes “locking” of the knee. A piece of torn cartilage may get caught between moving parts of the knee joint and causes the sound. A clicking sound may be heard when moving the knee. The pain may be worse when squatting. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I have been having right knee pain and swelling for the past 6 weeks. I had an MRI which shows: 1) Posterior lateral tibial plateau grade 4 chondral fissures 2) Grade 3 chondral fissure at the lateral patellar facet 3) Mild patellar tendinosis 4) Borderline patella Alta configuration 5) Tibia tubercle-trochlear groove distance 1.9 cm 6) Trace superolateral Hoffa!s fat pad edema.
Avatar n tn It can be probably due to some sprain or strain to tendons or ligaments in your knee joint. It is mandatory to rest the affected knee and also to apply ice packs. Continue ibuprofen for 3-4 days and also wear a knee support or brace. Do not exert and do not do any weight bearing. If the pain and inflammation continues then you have to go for some scans and follow up with an orthopedician for a proper examination and diagnosis. Take care!
Avatar n tn With the symptoms that you have mentioned, I feel it is a case of damage to the knee joint due to over use. There could be damage to the joint surfaces or due to overuse reduction in the amount of synovial fluid present in the joint causing friction during movement and damage to the cartilage. Also with the history of pains since childhood there is a chance of chondromalacia. Chondromalacia refers to a softening of the cartilage under the kneecap (patella).
Avatar m tn Swelling of your bursa (a fluid-filled sac that helps with movement of your knee joints) above your knee cap
2121656 tn?1395674749 Hyperextension refers to a state of over-movement of the legs towards the front towards the knee cap (over-unfolding on the knee joint). This may not necessarily be caused by an injury and aside non-traumatic fractures/ dislocations, could also result from connective tissue disorders, bone abnormalities etc. I would suggest considering an evaluation by an orthopedician or a sports medicine specialist for a detailed evaluation and suggestion of an appropriate management plan.
Avatar n tn Aside the immobilization of the bones, immobilization of the joints the bones directly or indirectly articulate with (i.e. knee and ankle joint) would also be required to prevent movement and promote healing. Hence the need for a long leg cast in your case. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Ankle went and I fell onto my left knee. People with me were more worried about my knee but most pain was in the ankle at the time so I was completely unconcerned by the knee. I got up and walked to my meeting, then went to a doctor who briefly glanced at my knee and gave it the all clear, and diagnosed a sprain in my ankle. Five weeks later an xray showed a fracture to my right ankle (lateral malleolus).
957414 tn?1246670050 I went down right away and felt pain in my left knee. Both sides of my knee were a little bit swollen, and I could not bend my knee all the way back. In addition, if I put pressure on the sides of my knee, it hurts and this was after swelling went down. I was able to bear my full weight on my injuried leg without pain at all. I have since then put on a brace to limit my knee movement with icing and elevation.
Avatar n tn As the protective cartilage is worn away by knee arthritis, bare bone is exposed within the joint. And when this bone participates in movement severe pain is caused. Knee arthritis typically affects patients over 50 years of age. It is more common in patients who are overweight, and weight loss tends to reduce the symptoms associated with knee arthritis. There is also a genetic predisposition to this condition.
Avatar n tn The MRI describes a tear and associated degenerative changes of one of the cartilage discs that lies towards the inner side within the joint to aid in smooth movement and a cyst that has developed close to this lining cartilage disc (meniscus). Hope this information is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn I'm 32 and I've never had any sort of leg, knee, or joint problem. Lately I've noticed that when I plant my left foot and pivot on it to turn my body to the right, my left knee makes a popping sound. In the last few days I've noticed that I can feel something move in the same knee when I walk down stairs. It feels like it's located to the left (outside) of the center of the knee. The right knee doesn't have any issues.
Avatar f tn Do not increase the activities to anything more than what you used to do earlier. There are obviously some restrictions on the knee movement. But, at the same time, you should not try to hurry up the process of healing. As far as the pain is considered, you may get x-rays of the knee to detect any other problem.
757973 tn?1234458769 Dr. Peter Gott answered the question in his online column: DEAR READER: A Baker's cyst is an accumulation of joint fluid behind the knee. Most cysts do not cause symptoms, but, occasionally, large cysts may cause discomfort and/or stiffness. In fact, most cysts are recognized only after they rupture, a process that can cause pain, swelling and bruising. Baker's cysts can occur in anyone of any age. The most common cause in older people is arthritis.
