Avatar f tn I heard from a lady at work that when you get a staph infection in a knee replacement, or any replaced joint, that you will always have staph dorment in it, and an injury or even stress can cause it to flair up again...does anyone know if this is true? I can't seem to get a straight answer from my doctor - I don't know why.
Avatar f tn About a month later my wrists started to feel better, but I started getting the same pain in my ankles, and my left knee. It really hurts alot when I walk or have to lift my knee. My knee almost feels swollen. I have never heard of a joint pain that moves around I am so lost. I am tired of taking Ibprofin and sleeping on a heating pad! I went to my primary DR. He took blood, x-rays and urine, but they all came back normal.
Avatar f tn All was going well then all of a sudden I started getting pain and a feeling that my knee was unsteady. I was tested for infection which was clear and had a scan which showed that the new joint was inflammed. Do you have any ideas what to do about it.
Avatar n tn complications and risks arising well after the operation - here the main complications are infection of the artificial joint, loosening of artificial joints free of infection and wear or breakage of components of the prosthesis, and also joint dislocation (the latter happens very rarely in the artificial knee it, unlike artificial hip).
Avatar m tn Meniscii too if torn or injured cause pain worsening on walking and result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. So, all these aspects should be looked into while diagnosing your pain. Weakness and pain in the knee can also be due to patellofemoral pain syndrome.
Avatar f tn If there is no history of trauma any infection in the knee joint can lead to swelling. Rheumatoid arthritis, gout are few other conditions which can lead to pain and swelling around the knee joint. A common cause of knee pain together with joint popping may be seen in patellofemoral pain syndrome, or runner's knee. It is a kind of overuse injury in which the cartilage on the back of the knee cap becomes roughened and clicks as it glides over the bone underneath.
Avatar m tn Then after a week I suffered from loose motions for 5 days and lost 6 kgs in my weight (from 64 kgs to 58kgs) . Then after I suffered from little joint pain in the middle of my knee joint like there is some insect crawling in the middle of the knee joint of right leg. After a week both the knee joints started paining. After 6 months these joint pains became severe and they pain every day, every minute during sleeping time or any time all the day.
Avatar n tn Hi, about three weeks ago i developed sudden joint pain in my left knee and left elbow. the joints became swollen and hot to the touch. The joints were stiff espiecially in the morning, but through taking celebrex once a day i was able to regain a full range of motion. Initially the doctor took fluid from the knee joint because his feeling was that it may be gout.
Avatar f tn No, as knee replacement is a surgery where external body is placed inside the arthritic joint so the most common side effect of a knee replacement is infection, and some times clots, not the same with knee manipulatiion. Take care!
Avatar m tn This is also thickening of the synovium (inner fibrous covering of the knee joint), that is associated with long standing/ chronic infection/ inflammations. You may like to consult your orthopedician for possible management options. Hope this was helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn Do you mean the are right after the rear toe pads (where the toe joint is) or the area at the "knee" joint? Is this an overweight cat? Hair loss on the second (knee joint) area can be a sign of hyperthyroidism. You should consider getting him checked out, especially as kitty gets older.
Avatar f tn Do any of you have joint pain that is associated with your MS? My right knee is giving me a terrible time but it seems to be more joint related than muscle related. Just thought I would ask! Hope you all are doing well and survived the holidays! Thanks!
Avatar f tn Usually a burning sensation on the knee with pain is due to inflammation of burs or bursitis. A bursa is a small sac of fluid. It cushions the outside of knee joint so that tendons and ligaments glide smoothly over the joint. This is usually treated with rest, anti-inflammatory drugs and physiotherapy. If infection is suspected then antibiotics will be prescribed. If pinched nerves are suspected you will need to undergo nerve conduction studies. Please consult an orthopedic specialist.

Avatar m tn Moreover, yesterday my doctor injected depo-medrol on my infected joint. And today my knee is extremely swollen and stiff, more than ever. I can barely bend my knee to 90 degree. My question, Is this swelling and stiffness normal after being injected with depo-medrol ? Or is this a side-effect ?
Avatar f tn His health is week now and not able to walk at all. The infection in knee is not curing. We are in a difficult situation now and Doctors are not telling the route cause and they are treating to heal the wound every-time instead of find the route cause. We have asked a TKR can cure this but they are not advising for TKR. Also we are confused now to go with Ortho or General Medicine to treat this. Appreciate your valuable suggestions to save my father and get him back to normal life.
Avatar f tn The pain will come with walking, sometimes very quickly and sometimes not much at all. When the pain comes, I have a swelling on the outside of the knee joint about the size of half a golf ball. When I rest the swelling and pain go away within 10 or 20 minutes. This doesn't sound like arthritis to me. A two-fold question, would these symptoms be consistent with AO? Or do these symptoms sound more like damage to the meniscus? Also...
Avatar m tn Reactive arthritis is not believed to be due to persisting infection in the joint. The joint problems persist long after the infection itself is gone, due to an abnormal immune reaction. The condition usually involves the spine as well as other joints, and often is associated with eye problems (conjunctivitis, sometimes more serious eye inflammation) and certain kinds of skin rash. Do I think you have reactive arthritis related to your apparent STD (chlamydia?) 20 years ago? Probably not.
Avatar n tn If this is totally unrelated to the knee joint, than this may be serious, since crackling in a muscle could mean gangrene or a similar condition, such as a clostridium infection. Whatever the cause it is painful and should be addressed ASAP by a veterinarian.

Avatar f tn Often after having your joint drained, the fluid will accumulate again. I hope that your knee will not fill up again. I am sure it is painful when it does and the procedure does not sound like fun. How long have you had PsA? How long did you go between the two draining procedures?
Avatar n tn The usual complications due to this surgery are blood clots, infection, stiffness in the joint, loosening or failure of the implant and nerve damage. Your symptoms refer to damage to the nerve in the foot. Common nerve to be damaged during TKR surgery is the peroneal nerve, which on treatment recovers with in 6-12 months. Even when there is no nerve damage, some patient’s might experience pain after surgery. In your case it is too early to decide about the cause.

Lately I have started having pain in my joints - particularly my right knee joint. I have not bumped it or strained it at all. Could joint pain be related to my headaches in any way?
Avatar f tn In end of July I had pain severe in my right knee and similar pain, but not as severe in my left knee. I assumed I injured it at the gym and let it be. A week after, both of my ankle began hurting along with my knuckles and wrists. Around mid August, decided to see a doctor and they said no visible swelling and it can be a viral infection. My doctor assumed the blood test he ordered will be normal and Naproxen will fix the pain.
