Avatar m tn Hi all, I am a 20 year old student who really likes weightlifting. My biggest obstacle is my left knee, which was quite heavily injured 5 years ago while I was playing basketball. It was treated by a surgery followed by physical therapy. However, my left leg has been noticably weaker than my right leg ever since. One of the reasons I started weightlifting was so I could try to fix these imbalances.
Avatar f tn Once you are able to walk short distances unassisted, it is important to regain the strength in your leg muscles with resistance exercises. You can do the early rehab exercises with light ankle weights or resistance bands, and you can ride a stationary bike at varying degrees of resistance to strengthen your muscles and work on your range of motion at the same time. Consider taking yoga or tai chi classes.
Avatar f tn Recently while I was on holiday by the seaside, I wake up with my knee all swollen and inflamed. I rested then but as soon I walked a bit again it started to swell. So after the holyday I had an MRI scan and the orthopedics tell me that I have the patella/femoral syndrome and that i need to do exercises to make my quadriceps stronger or maybe surgery.
Avatar m tn I had a MRI and the result was Strain with distortion of the right rectus femuris muscle, exactly as described at the above comments.I notice something like a gap or hole at my right thigh since from 6 months already. The doctor recommended only an exercise consisting of contracting or flexing my right foot all the time but there are not seen results yet.The question is how to heal from this injure? May you please give me an answer? thank you.
Avatar f tn t do any cardio that is too taxing on my knee; is there any exercises that have high fat burning principals other than swimming? (I dont have the avilability of swimming where i live).
Avatar f tn Next is the lunge among its five absolute best butt-building exercises. Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and your hands resting by your sides. Keep your shoulders positioned directly over your hips and step back with your left leg in an exaggerated step that is about double an average walking step. Bend both of your knees until your front thigh is about parallel to the floor and your back knee is almost touching the floor.
Avatar m tn I’ve had problems with my knees since 2014 am 25lbs. Weight got thrown on my knee. It didn’t break or anything. My has bothered me over the years but recently it’s worse. I movies into a house with stairs and when I walk or run up the i feel a ripping sensation in my knee. That’s the only way I can describe it. It doesn’t hurt on impact it hurt when I take off so to speak. Also when I have my knee bent for a long time it’s very hard to straighten it.
Avatar f tn The pain occurs mostly above the knee cap and slightly along both sides. I have never had any knee injuries nor do I remember injuring it prior to when the pain began. I made a doctor's appt for February 22nd but it seems to be getting worse and i'm not sure if I will be able to handle the pain. I have minimal swelling above the knee cap but no redness, warmth or presence of a fever.
Avatar f tn I dislocated my knee in April this year, went to the hospital and they popped it back in. It took from April to July for me to recover, with different knee braces and pysico. A week after getting discharged from the hospital in July, my knee dislocated again however this time it popped back in by itself, it took until September for it to be fixed. I just got discharged from physio last week (November).
Avatar m tn i underwent left knee orthroscopy for miniscus tear (removal of broken minisci pieces) 5 years back and recently the same with right knee. i was wondering how will it effect knees in longer run. will it effect walking, running, exercising etc?will i be able to perform sports?during routine walking/running,my left knee gives clicking sounds(but theseare painless, the same which got miniscus removed 5 years back ) is it harming knee?
Avatar m tn You can find a website by putting in lliotibial band syndrome and they will show you exercises that are supposed to help with stretching out the band. My only problem with those exercises is they require me to lay on my back...so go figure. I hope you find more help then I have, this is stopping me from going back to work and applying for disability is a joke. Good Luck Brendan because i certainly feel your pain.
Avatar m tn When I had cartilage surgery on my knee, I was given exercises to start the day after surgery (yes, it hurt). I was expected to have full ROM in two weeks or less. Doing the exercises made all the difference. Were you given exercises, are you doing them, and are you seeing a physical therapist? Your answers should be yes, yes, yes.
1461944 tn?1286027942 your nerve must be super sensitive to stretch! alternatively... you could lie on your back with your hip and knee fully bent, with your two hands wrapped around the back of your thigh to support the leg... from this position, try to straighten your knee maybe 10-20 degrees, release... repeat 10 times.... that would mobilise the nerve also... obviously its a starter exercise though. non affected leg should be bent also, with foot of non-affected leg flat on ground.
Avatar f tn Lateral lunges, front lunges, half squats, leg press, lateral step ups, knee extension (90-40 degrees), hamstring curls, hip adduction and abduction, hip flexion and extension, toe raises, try all of these under an instructor. I would suggest you to apply ice packs regularly to decrease the pain and inflammation and take intermittent pain killers and go for an MRI and also a second opinion. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have bursitis of the knee that hasn't fully healed in over a year. If I exercise with the bursitis, including use of the leg extension machine, what kind of injury am I risking?
Avatar m tn The condition of bow-shaped legs (Genu Varum) can be treated with the correct exercises, however, for older patients. I (Orthopedic Surgical First Assistant) have seen the best results with a minimally invasive surgery. The worst part of this surgery is that you have to put up with a External Fixator for many weeks. If you or anyone else would like more information on this issue or Knock Knee, please don't hesitate to contact me! Best wishes!
Avatar f tn Earlier today I felt that it was giving way but this felt minor. I think I may have had issues with this knee in the past (with it giving way). From memory I had physio and did some strengthening exercises. I believe this may have been due to repeatedly unloading firewood from a trailor. I stand with my right leg close to the trailor and sometimes touching and twist to get wood and then stack it on a pile.
Avatar f tn But, I got permanent swelling from last 3 weeks and pain also. Pain is in my lower and upper part of knee. I tried cooling and hot cycle belt of wrap but still pain exists. This all started from nov 07. I never had injury with my knees. Completed my blood test and routine check up in January 08 but everything is normal. I never had consultation with my knees.
Avatar n tn d recommend is seeing a physical therapist who can show you tons of core building exercises, as well as exercises to strengthen your knee and the muscles around it. Or you can go to a gym and get a personal trainer to show you. Or go on You Tube. Or wait for someone here to mention a thousand exercises, because there are literally thousands of different exercises to work on different parts of your core, not that working on your core has proven to be all that beneficial.
Avatar f tn I will never buy a pair of runners again. I have noticed HUGE improvement in my knee in a week alone. I am able to use the leg press with 110lb of weight and not worry about my knee. I highly highly suggest people research them, and I highly recommend them to anyone with knee and back pain.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have "calcified meniscus" on my right knee. I have constant pain on it. About a year ago, the doctor said my condition does not require surgery. In the other hand, I'm overweight (I'm 5'9" and weights 285 lbs). I need to loose weight and want to know what type of exercise I can do that do not have a worse impact on my knee.
Avatar m tn and was given a few strecthes and leg strengthening exercises to help with my knee problems. Well, after a solid two weeks of performing these exercises, my knee feels strong and well. But whenever i have to stretch and put my left knee into my buttox the entire knee feels an incredible amount of pain. Also, whenever I try and sit on my ankles, I am in HUGE amounts of pain just in the left knee.
Avatar m tn i am 2 months out from surgery and my knee is fine and feels stable so what exercises can i do to help with this pain in my butt???
