Avatar n tn It is still early in your recovery and doing the PT and all of the home exercises will get more range of motion in your knee. I know from experience. Good luck!!
Avatar f tn 4 days post-op - been doing walking, exercises 2x/day, using ice machine a lot, keeping leg up or straight most of time, but now have red, angry looking, black/blue, somewhat warmer to touch coloring on upper leg and knee. Only pain is from the swelling when I put leg down to stand up. Is this normal? How long for leg to be less swollen?

1461944 tn?1286027942 You require sessions with an experienced rehabilitation expert, who will walk you through the exercises. This should have been done before surgery. I am dismayed at the number of surgeons who direct patients directly into the operating room for sciatic pain without having them treated by a rehabilitation specialist. After a laminectomy is performed there should be no pain whatsoever. Discuss this with your surgeon. You need another MRI.
Avatar m tn I have bursitis of the knee that hasn't fully healed in over a year. If I exercise with the bursitis, including use of the leg extension machine, what kind of injury am I risking?
Avatar f tn 3 weeks after surgery, my knee is still quite swollen which is limiting my ROA and also prevents me from progressing with the exercises. I am doing 3 sessions of exercise each day followed by an hour in the CPM and 1/2 - 1 hour of icing with elevation. I had home health PT the first week followed by 4 outpatient PT sessions. Is there a chart that shows what kind of progress should be occuring each week in ROA?
Avatar f tn Hi, everyone. I have been working out at a gym to try to get into better shape and maximize the muscle power I have. Recently I've noticed that the top of my left thigh is feeling very fatigued when using one of the machines. It feels like it is working too hard. I tested this by pushing out on the foot pedal contraption with only my left leg, and I could manage that for a few inches, as it was really tired. When I tried it with my right leg, though, I could barely move at all.
Avatar f tn Yay, got my TENS Machine today from the hospital. Feeling a bit excited now.
Avatar f tn Folks, the poster said she can't do squats because of a bad knee. Until we know how bad the knee is, we can't tell her what exercises to do specifically. Also, squats as I said don't make the butt smaller, they make it more muscular somewhat, but they really more affect the part of body doing the work, which are the thighs and calves. When you do a squat, you're working the buttocks some, but the power to do them comes from the more powerful muscles beneath it.
Avatar f tn I had microfracture knee surgery 12 weeks ago, and I still cannot walk without the aid of crutches. My muscle is atrophying, so I feel I am getting farther and farther away from recovery. My doctor doesn't want me in PT for strength building for another 4 weeks. I am worried about my thigh muscle. Especially 4 weeks from now because of the condition it is in now. Is this characteristic of my surgery?
Avatar f tn To work the hip abductor muscles, perform the hip abduction exercises one to three times a week. These exercises will challenge and tone the hip abductor muscles. It takes six muscles to perform hip abduction. The sartorius muscle commences at the top, front of your hip and extends into your inner, lower leg bone. The tensor fascia latae is a small muscle that sits on the outer portion of your hip and inserts into your iliotibial band.
Avatar n tn Seated abduction is done in two ways with an abduction machine or with a resistance loop. To use the machine, sit on the seat, rest your outer thighs against the padded levers and push against them until your legs are in a "V" shape. Slowly return to the starting position and repeat. A resistance loop is a large, flat rubber band that slides over your legs. With the resistance loop, sit in a chair and slide the loop up to your thighs and flatten it.
Avatar n tn Stretching the front and back or your leg to increase the flexibility in your knee. Perform stretching exercises at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm. Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.
Avatar n tn I think you're going to get a lot of suggestions, but none will necessarily apply to you as we're not you. Have you asked your orthopedist for suggestions? Or seen someone who specializes in this, such as a physical therapist? I'd think after a trauma you would want to get back to exercise slowly and build your muscles that support your back before plunging back into it.
Avatar f tn I want to get a nice tone back for the summer any tips and good exercises are needed
Avatar f tn due to medical restrictions makes it difficult to exercise. Does anyone here have any advice or exercises that could help me get my legs stronger? I am not yet stronger enough for running or jumping but am willing to do whatever it takes to get stronger. All comments are welcome and thank you for taking the time to listen to my rambling.
Avatar f tn You could use walking supports or knee brace for the time being. Also for starting exercises, it is better to consult a physiotherapist, to avoid movements that could worsen the condition. Hope this is useful. Take care!
Avatar m tn For the last six months I have had an intermittent problem in the right knee area. I appreciate a description is no substitute for a proper examination, but I will try to describe the problem as accurately and fully as possible. - I am a 35 year old male, active, workout regularly, 6'4", 13.5 stone. - My day job involves prolonged sitting at a desk using a computer.
Avatar f tn Every ab workout should include back exercises. Some ab exercises already engage back muscles such as planks or Pilates. Exercises that target the back include the lumbar extension, which involves laying prone on the floor or a ball, and lifting your head and shoulders by using your back muscles. You can have your hands on the floor or ball for support, but don't use them to push. Bird-dog is another effective back exercise.
Avatar m tn When I had cartilage surgery on my knee, I was given exercises to start the day after surgery (yes, it hurt). I was expected to have full ROM in two weeks or less. Doing the exercises made all the difference. Were you given exercises, are you doing them, and are you seeing a physical therapist? Your answers should be yes, yes, yes.

Avatar f tn I dislocated my knee in April this year, went to the hospital and they popped it back in. It took from April to July for me to recover, with different knee braces and pysico. A week after getting discharged from the hospital in July, my knee dislocated again however this time it popped back in by itself, it took until September for it to be fixed. I just got discharged from physio last week (November).
